Far from the first reference, but I always remember the first Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels which labels the Y-wing as an "attack starfighter," while the X-wing is "space superiority." That made sense with the older machine no longer being on par with newer designs when it came to dogfighting but was still a little more durable and a little punchier for anti-shipping strikes, having been originally designed as a multi-role starfighter with one of those hats being a light bomber.

#AskEck Did you see the unused posters for The Rise of Skywalker that was just released? There's a poster that shows everyone affiliated with the First Order, but at the bottom is a Star Destroyer not seen in the movie AT ALL. I feel like I've seen it before and it looks like fan art! I feel like I know I've seen images of that same model on Google Images. If true, how can they keep doing this. Also, I just want to add on how horrible the photoshop is on literally every poster for The Rise of Skywalker. Remember the poster that leaked in April 2019? And my god, the theatrical poster...I've never stared in disbelief about how things are positioned and composed. The worst part for me is how the Millennium Falcon just looks unnaturally inserted. The best poster for TROS is the one where they mimic the A New Hope poster.

This explanation for 2D ship orientation seemed silly to me at first but I think it actually works if you think of it as an in-universe skill issue. The most elite fighter pilots and captains have overcome the disorientation factor of 3D combat and can use it against less spatially aware opponents. In the Stackpole x-wing novels there are quite a few battles where 3D orientation matters like capital ships rolling to preserve shield integrity.

Langoliers was a cool concept but I always felt like King did not go hard enough into the implications or how weird it could actually be. Like, imagine if you had objects just floating in midair because that’s exactly where it was at that exact time. Maybe even clothes hanging on bodies that are no longer there. Planes in mid-takeoff. And imagine if when a person dies their movement through time literally stops, so maybe they encounter some random person who happened to have died at that exact moment. The implications for that would be especially wild, because it would also make you think, wow, everyone’s going to end up meeting and being devoured by the langoliers eventually.

The orientation thing was a big problem for me when I first started playing Elite Dangerous but it wasn't long before I got comfortable with the fact that orientation really doesn't matter in a 3D space with minimal gravity

There is a "force rift" that prevents a lot of hyperspace tavel outnofnthe galaxy. It goes by a few names, but ai tend to just use force rift. My favorite explination is early force using explores found something out there, maybe a force worse than the ancients and to prevent invasion, they used the force (at great cost) to make a barrier to prevent that. The force unleashed of multiple planets being destroyed made the rift by tearing space in the process.

For battle it makese sense, but it's a thing that is true for all of Space Opera, and it's not always battle, sometimes they just cross, and have a quick chat before leaving, and that's the one that makes me question the most, because not only are they all pointing "up", they're all facing eachother, positioned like people would be in a room, have you tried getting RC cars or boats to properly face eachother? These captains are asking their helms to do something tricky for no other good reason that just they can, bruv, you're pn a Discord voice channel with web cams on, rotating your ship will not rotate your stream, rotate your phone, it's the accelerometers in your phone sir.

@carlosdgutierrez65707 сағат бұрын
I would argue that it is relatively easy to devide "up", just use either the nearest planet to decide where down is, and orient yourselves in a way that the ship's belly is towards the planetsry surface or use the plane of the solar system in which you are located, yeah that would have as consequence that the enemy might be upside down but that woudl still be easier than just poping at random directions. All that would be useful because as beings who evolved on the surface of planets where there is an up and down, it would be harder for any other sapient species to deal with 3D combat without defining a clear coordinate system witout defined X, Y and Z axis.

I think you hit in one moment of the video on where the Venator could have helped- refueled in a nearby system. The place where a Venator could have helped was to extend the range of X-Wings further from their bases. Stop the Venator one system away from the target and launch there

I genuinely don’t understand why they diverged so much between the video games and the books. Fall of Reach had an awesome plot, there was no need to create such a complicated and anachronistic storyline for the game. And why hasn’t a decent space battle between covenant and human assets made a debut in the games? Who’s making these things?

Hey ECK can I ask why the imperium class ultra star destroyer isn't talked about more often because it's the largest and probably the most powerful ship is Star Wars history i mean it has a superlaser as(~) powerful as the deathstar and enough weapons to destroy entire fleets on its own. Thanks for your time. im a big fan, as always. Have a good day/night, whatever it is when you read.

The entire battle (and the rest of the movie for that matter) is poorly thought out, the biggest thing I think that could have fixed this scene specifically is that the dreadnaught should have had an gravity well generator that was keeping the resistances fleet from fleeing, Poe and the bomber squadron (which would be faster in this version) were only supposed to knock out the gravity well so the interdiction field would be disabled, however, Poe being motivated by revenge orders the squadron to destroy the cruiser against Leia’s direct orders, this is what ends up getting the squadron killed, even though the ship is destroyed, in my opinion, this would make Poe’s mission make a lot more sense (instead of his pointless one to clear a path for bombers that weren’t even going to make a run at the target) his attack had purpose, but he goes to far, and the results are disastrous.

#AskEck In Star Trek (and likely other universes), there is a weapon type known as a spinal lance. Basically a big mounted weapon that is much much more powerful than the regular versions, but isnt able to be aimed independently of the ship (kinda like casemate tank destroyers). However, I dont see this weapon type actually being used in Star Wars. Is there a good reason for this? I know that there was that one ship in the Clone Wars, but that was its own type of weapon as well, not just an upscaled version of it

Responding to the rebel alliance reason for a unified “down” in fleet battles - If it is psychologically vexing to humans (Interesting that humans wigging out about upside down ships, somehow means the other species must participate.) for the fleets NOT to all be oriented the same, to the degree that an attacking enemy fleet will also reorient themselves to match the defending fleet’s “down”, it seems like a great force modifier to do exactly that. If you’re going to do some asynchronous warfare, crushing the morale of the entire enemy fleet, just by orienting differently. To quote Ender’s Game, “The enemy is ‘down’.” Yes, the author of that book went on to share his bigoted opinion on… somebody. I think he had a problem with the gays, but I could be wrong. Anyway, he sold the movie rights to a studio a long time ago. For a flat fee, if memory serves. So watching the movie or not won’t contribute to crushing the gays, or whomever they’re complaining about this week. But also, there were many complaints about the movie deviating from the book, etc. of course it’s deviating,,, a normal movie is 90-120 minutes. Stand By Me was a short story (call it novella) er… Novella, part of an anthology. A full sized paper book would use the novella, because the runtime is an hour, so that others can ride those coat tales. My point is that changing your “down” to be different from theirs will dampen the enemies’ doctrine. A confused enemy force is easier to harm. Work This would

An explanation from the Bread Circus I really like is that: - Allied ships like to stay in formation, and thus use the same up and down - They need an objective reference point, which could be: - The Planet below - The Poles of a planet - The average orbit of the planets around a given star - The Galaxy's orbital plane - In addition to this, their enemies use the same objective reference points, thus all ships have the same up and down

Only going to come in after another galactic plague is driven off in the form of Kathleen Kennedy’s toxic Feminism. It would be a great way to reset the Disney version then resurrect the Jedi in response sure they where edgy but it was definitely something different would be cool to loop in something along the lines of Vader / Palapatine preparing for the, during the empire. Then go to Dark Krayt.

#AskEck I’ve been thinking about the Star Wars timeline between ‘A New Hope’ and ‘Return of the Jedi,’ and maybe even the broader Mandalorian universe. Do you think Luke Skywalker ever met members of the Ghost crew? And could he have learned about the Jedi Ezra and Kanan during their time with the Rebel Alliance? Ezra was rescued in the ‘Ashoka’ series, so it’s possible he might join Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi order, just like we saw in the ‘Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘The Last Jedi.’ What do you think?
