I think the 300,000 includes only those on long term visas, which for a lot of people are hard to get. A large portion of the people who live here do it on tourist visas, border runs every few months. I've been here before, during and after covid and have seen a big change in people moving here.

I had no idea really how many expats/tourists were here until the bus passed through Pattaya on the way to Jomtien. It looked like some kinda resort ratio where all the people enjoying themselves were foreigners, and the workers were natives. But in Thailand, outside of the tourist hot spots, it’s really not that bad.

The workers are also not native lol many of them are from neighboring countries

I'm in Bangkok and it's okay. Stay away from Nana and you don't see too many. But there are enough to mingle if you are into that such as meetups or whatever. Most foreigners I see are Chinese and Japanese, not Westerners. Which is something positive.

Missed ya at Lannas Christmas party. Great video! One thing i've noticed, since i've arrived, is the idea of 2 Thailands does exist and the only way of accessing one of them is knowing Thai.

Not too many! Compare to San Jose in California where I am at the moment, 70% foreigners =150,000 Indians, 150,000 Vietnamese, Mexican/Central Americans, Filipino, Russians, Korean, Europeans...

Mostly tech workers. My school district (Mission San Jose HS) has only 4% Caucasian.

I was un Chaing Mai on Christmas day, and the tourists outnumbered the Thais in many places. And Nobody was smiling!

I also invite people to live here. When I was first here in 1974, if you saw another farang, you both stopped and talked. Things change - but it is nice to see other people come and enjoy - except maybe one guy I know.

Up to Thais - not foreigners. Too many in my own country to be sure!

Very interesting! I always enjoy and appreciate your perspective. I have to wonder if the reason why there aren't more full-time expats is because the visa/retirement rules are so complicated, unfriendly, and ever-changing! 😂

People outside Thailand can rarely say the city name "Pattaya" correctly. Congratulations, you have fully integrated. That said, living in the U.S. is becoming difficult for most. The monthly healthcare and housing costs are ridiculous. Thailand has the amenities to tackle all of those mentioned.

Passed thru for a few days in BKK in oct and early dec. 3 different parts of the city. The vibe I generally got from the Thais not making $$ off of the tourists was one of indifference to subtle contempt. Some warmed up a bit when I spoke enough Thai to them to let them know Im not the "typical" tourist that doesnt know much or any of their language. Others were unfazed, probably grouping us all together as "pseudo- temporary invaders" to their precious lands. SE Asia and East Asia will always carry a sense of anti-foreigner vibes with them of varying degrees. I'd say its natural human nature. With the continued dysfunction going on in Europe, USA, Canada, Aussieland, etc as it pertains to cost of living, I expect a continued increase in ppl coming to places like TLand that offer good value for the money, safety, good infrastructure, cuisine, etc. The positives do outweigh the negatives imho overall. [ Seasoned expat spanning over 2 decades. living, working, and vacationing in many throughout SE and East Asia].

Interesting video as ussual and also good to know about the expat comunity is not that big in compare with the total population. Unfortunately some western people do not how to behave and bring some bad attituded and corruption and I am sure there is a minority but unfortunately affect the rest of western people specially if there are in the news. Thank for the informative video and I am 2 weeks away from my first trip to Thailand and Chaing Mai area to visit.
