I mean, sure there will be bump ups when they do well like Judge's cards, but the true big jump happens right before they get called up....when they are killing the minor leagues. Get in before the big hype jump and hold long term if you think they can be all time is the best recipe I feel. That's what I try to do.

Julio was essentially the one flier pick I made where I didn't quite have enough data to put him anywhere, but I thought it would be fun to speculate that he would be able to maintain his previous pace. I still think he will bounce back from this slump, but it definitely doesn't look like my best pick two months later.

I mainly collect base rookies as I do not have the budget for numbered parallels and rookie autos. Wander mania simmered down, but I do believe that long term he will be a really good player. I have a bunch of his rookie base cards and I comsider him a long term hold. Topps fimest, topps pristene, topps chrome are a few of the base rookies I have.

Great video Scott! For Arenado, the time to buy will be in about 2-3 years when he's on the downside and everyone starts to dismiss him. He'll get his bump when he's elected to the Hall of Fame as one of the best 3B of all time. J-Rod if he has a down year will be a good buy, as long as you are ok with the risk of a super talented player never living up to the hype. I think he'll have a great career, but you never know. Tork I wouldn't touch until he proves he can play against MLB pitching

I think the market is just stagnant because a lot of the people that jumped in during COVID are not engaged now. Just the die hard collectors are still buying. Also, Julio has so many rookie cards that the market is flooded. Prices are prob correcting more so than people bailing on him. There are literally 100s of options to purchase. Not worth it long term unless it's something special.

Making money on baseball cards isn't easy anymore. Buying at peak hype doesn't make it easier. If Julio's current stats project over the entire season, it'll take years for his values to recover, if they ever recover. He was expected to be an MVP caliber player this season. Anything short of that will cause a dip.

Look at Kelenic, everyone thought he was going to come out his first year and be the next Griffey for Seattle and he was horrible his first 2 seasons and now look at the kinda year he is having this year and he is still only 23. Most of the top guys that come in the bigs around age 20-21 don’t figure it out till 24-25 yrs old. Everyone thinks baseball is way easier than football and basketball but it’s actually the opposite. You have 19 year old come in to the NBA killing it there first season and 22 year olds come to the NFL and play like a MVP. A lot of Baseball players are up and down unless you are really really good.

the sample size is so much larger in baseball compared to other sports .. a slump in baseball is the NFL entire season lols . So having a few weeks or a month of not playing well doesn't mean crap to me in a overall baseball season.

I think Arenado is playing like that because the Cardinals whole team is a mess and he is just not happy. Even the top superstars play like crap when they are not happy with the team and some of them will purposely play like crap, I’m not saying Nolan is doing that but they to figure something out. Maybe start by firing the horrible management? they have an all-star roster but yet have one of the worst records in baseball? And they made the stupid decision of sending J Walker back down to the minors because he got into a slump? He ties a 100 year old hitting record and then he didn’t hit good in several games after that so you send him down? Volpe has been hitting under 200 most of the season and just slightly above but the Yankees are letting him figure it out. J Walker had 73 AB hitting .274 with 2hr, 11 rbi and 2 SB i believe over about the first 20 games and you get sent down for that??? 🤦‍♂️
