Haha! All of my cabbages are puny, whether in full sun or partial shade, all planted in great soil and fed. One of my neglected starts that I never planted out has a fully formed softball sized head, and it is right next to the ones with lots of room to grow but no heads in sight. No pest pressure, but I think the warm temps here in the East County have stressed my plants. They’re all coming out so I can get more greens in before the warm temps really hit. My broccolini planted exactly the same has been prolific.

What variety is it? Does it get amble even watering ?
@domesti-city2 жыл бұрын
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany I bought two six-packs of unknown varieties both labeled "early." The small heads I got were fabulous flavor fried up with caraway seeds and onions. I have two plants in the ground still; maybe this cold snap will improve their chances. They did get regular ample water. Seed starting time always seems to fall in my busy season at work, so it is hit or miss what I sow, and what I "start."

@@domesti-city when buying starts make sure they are not root bound when you put them in the ground.

@@SanDiegoSeedCompany I guess that means check them at the market before you buy them which I did not do! It was early when I bought them, but they were still root bound. I usually look, but failed with the cabbages!

Well, at least he has cabbage in the ground… I don’t 😤😢. My thoughts and prayers go out for you and your family Brijette, I’m so sorry friend.

Brijget, I am growing cabbages and have since the fall. HOwever, they are producing great leaves but very little in developing a head. I live in Central California. Do you have any tips for me before the season ends? I know that it may be too late but this could help for the next fall planting. Thanks

Make sure they have amble moisture in the soil. Mulch heavily around the plants once they are a good size. Have you added any organic granular fertilizer? They are heavy feeders.
