Switched from CASH to ZST. Distribution is holding up better. Being a 12 month and under bond fund there should be a lag effect to rate cuts.

Thanks Dan! This is quite timely as I have been wondering about the value of these funds for the short term. Great information. As for new material, there is a lot of coverage out there on Canada's big 5 banks, but what about the small ones ie Laurentian, Canadian Western, Desjardins. Thanks again.
@StocktradesLtdКүн бұрын
Canadian Western was bought by National and to be honest there isn't much to talk about with Laurentian!

I like holding cash on the sidelines for opportunities and these funds can provide decent yield while being patient to deploy that capital into equities.

Hindsight is 20/20, but basically anybody who was has been sitting in these 5% ish yields on cash via these funds the last year has missed out on a huge market runup. Now with yields going down people shifting back to equities are paying a premium. Time in the market beats timing the market.

Thanks for the tips. I just bought into CASH as a place to park cash. What are your thoughts on ETFs like Global X's USCL and other covered call and covered call with leverage S&P 500 ETFs in comparison to ETFs like VFV?
@StocktradesLtdКүн бұрын
Over the long run, you'll perform better simply owning the index. These income etfs certainly have their purpose for people, but if total return is your goal, likely better off elsewhere.

I recently sold some ZMMK to buy DFN PR as they're hiking their dividend to 7%. I also have some preferred share from George Weston that I bought when the rates were going up and share price down. Do you have an opinion on these two? They represent about 4% of my total portfolio but it's going to increase as I sell from ZMMK. I like how they are taxed in my non-registered, gotta admit that HSAV looks interesting as well in there. Thank you and great video!

Never been a gigantic fan of DFN capital shares. I'd have to look into the preferreds.

Great video. I have a small amount in WS cash account as an emergency saving that has been building up. I apprecoate yoyr point that cash accounts are affected by what the BOC does and started to think that it might be better to put the monry to work since interests are low. Great information. 👍🏾
