bio student here! There is some truth to the 'incompatabilty' thing (idk about the olive oil part). So when you kiss or get close to someone, those pheromones and the exchange of "saliva" when you kiss allows for you to get information about the other person's immune system. In nature it's best to have opposing immune systems so that any potential children have a broader immunity. So yeah! Incompatability of pheromones is a thing!

Gaby: should I, like, go on a date? Allison: yea! no, it's weird
@tom4ivo6 жыл бұрын
1. For most of the 20th century, a date was defined as a pre-arranged going out for entertainment purposes; intent or goals weren't part of the definition. Then the 90s happened and people started hooking up before dating, and nobody knew what the hell they were doing. 2. I think Gabby doesn't have an agenda when she meets most people. When you have an agenda, you get nervous about how you are going to achieve that agenda. When you have an agenda, the other person senses that, and that makes them nervous, because they don't know what you want, or if they do, they might not want the same thing. 3. The thing about smell indicating compatibility has to do with the immunoglobulin complex. This is the genetically determined set of antibodies of a person's immune system. It is very beneficial for your offspring if the other parent of your offspring has a really different Ig complex, since this maximizes the strength of their immune system. Tests indicate that women are much more attracted to the smell of someone who's Ig complex is very different from their own. They have chemistry, literally.

My dad makes every space that he spends a significant amount of time in (particularly his car) smell of mildew, which is probably the same thing that you're smelling. GABY omg I totally have the pheromones not matching up/"smell" thing too, and I talk to all my friends about this constantly but none of them really know what I mean lol. It's so true though! It's honestly the worst to go out with someone who you think is really great but then have that happen when the two of you kiss, because it's a total dealbreaker :( For me it's more like a nondescript "sharp" smell, one that kinda hits the back of your sinuses the way, like, raw onion sometimes does? But I've also had it be more cloying/oily so I think I know what you mean by smelling like olive oil too. Thanks for making me feel less crazy! hahaha

Gaby! I have that. Sometimes people just taste a certain way when they kiss you. Mine isn't olive oil, it's probably actually various tastes that I just have now associated with different people, and some people taste similar. If they have a certain taste, I know it's gonna be a regrettable one night stand. If they taste another way, it tastes like inexperience. And these are similar between all the people I've kissed, there's just patterns. And then sometimes there is no taste, that's the best. But then I wonder if I taste like something to people and I guess I'll never learn what that is. I hope it's mint toothpaste.
