I wish we got a look at the cab they made for him. My only gripe or confusion with the new process was the impedance curve, no avoiding that whatsoever clearly and I totally got why this was done but some of the shape and build of those cabs had a “signature “ curve to it. I was really torn about this process , felt it as a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” situation but I’m all for moving forward with new things, gonna have to try it out and see. Great demo as always friend

I really like the ml stuff. With ir it’s allways like a gamble. On the internet all of them sound great and after buying those….. vety often not as close. Ok but not as close. The djent and the green seems very great. Would be interesting how in comparison with the ownhammer heavyhitters (mars /orange v30 for example) does anyone of you has tested?

Hmm.. well the IRs do sound great, but I think the claim is a bit out of touch. They've made a cab with a certain characteristic and shot IRs with it. Educate me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of cabs tells me there is no such thing as a cab with no coloration on the speaker's tone - no matter what you do. A speaker by itself sounds different to a speaker on a baffle, sounds different to a speaker in a box, sounds different to a speaker in a closed box, sounds different to a speaker in a differently sized or shaped box, sounds different to a speaker in a box filled with damping material... Jim Lill's video on cabs is a great example of all of that.
@davidmultimedia2024
@davidmultimedia2024 8 ай бұрын
Hmm yes, everything you said is indeed true. If I understand it correctly, the thing they did is ''controlling'' these parameters (material, size, shape, etc) to create a cabinet with a particular purpose, which is to fill/tame the mid-frequency gaps that usually result with these classic speakers loaded in regular/uncontrolled cabinets. As Mikko shows with the graph, no matter the actual cab and mics he uses, there's always this unbalanced mid issue, respective to combo designs or solo cabinets. It just make sense that if classic cabs have never been designed with the goal of sounding their best when micced up, that they would most likely require some work in post. Some guitarists/recording engineers just accepted it the way it was (and those mixes didn't sound that good), and some always did the work to balance the tones. Personnally, I was mixing different sounding IRs in order to create a new one that is balanced (never cared that much about authenticity). Now, we still get the classic character of those speakers, without the added work of EQing in post to fix the mids. Doesn't mean you won't have to EQ at all in the mix.. but at least not to balance the initial tone. I think it's a really clever approach and it definitely delivers.. but it doesn't mean they will end up sounding better than regular good IRs with some work. Only time/experience with these new IRs will tell! What I don't quite understand though, is why Mikko is showing us the frequency spectrum of the IRs themselves (that's what MIKKO2 does), instead of the frequency spectrum after the IR as colored the amp tone. For instance, when I look at the spectrum of the Mega 4x12 Oversized IRs in MIKKO2 (Free), I can see the mid gaps... but If i put a Spectrum Meter below MIKKO2, the result is pretty balanced, and I don't see those mid gaps. Same when I use GGD Cali Oversized.. I don't know about the frequency spectrum of these IRs alone, but the result on the amps is SUPER balanced.. that's why I have very little/no work at all to do in post to get amazing results. Sometimes, I still see a slight gap in the mids, but not all the time. So my guess is that the initial ''issue'' isn't always a problem. Still curious to try them though! If only we could get a free IR to test first..

@@davidmultimedia2024 It will always be 100% subjective. Some would argue that the natural dip in the mids in some cabinets is a desirable trait, as it helps lessen that "woody" aspect that some people don't like for metal guitar. It most likely depends on genre and taste.

Sounds good to me! This specific thing with having speakers in a cab that doesn't affect their characteristic wasn't already in Bogren's heaviest cab in the world pack?

Really nice sounds. Have you tryed to blend in two different speakers, the Green and the Djent 30? Or one on the right side and the other on the left? The Green really cuts through the mix. I think there is a lot to experiment and to discover. I think these are perfect tools for recordings.

it's complicated to say if it's really good or just another cab, cause we don't have a way to compare them. Every cab sounds diferent, it's just how it is. So even with normal IR we can't really compare. Maybe for 10 usd I would give it a try. Here in Brazil 20 Euros is expensive.

Doesn't it do the same thing with a tape or saturation plugin just after the IR? It adds harmonics and with Saturn 2 it has dynamics as well!!! I experimented with it just last night and I got to say I think that is all they are doing all these companies trying to make better IR's! Just ad a bit of saturation with even or odd harmonics alongside some dynamics letting the tone breath!?

Djent sounds great for downtuned flogging, green sounds perfect for everything else. Not a fan of the Mick77 for anything really, it has a gnarly sizzle on the top end I don't dig. V30 & Green mix using 57 & 121 mics - this is The Way.

Cool, kinda like the Rockbox and York concepts of a custom cab. These do sound more "real" from ML, less processed. I can dig it. Hoping for some oddball packs next. Get the classics out the way, then bust out some Eminence (Lengend or p50E) and one-off speaker brands, that would be rockin'!
