WALDOBORO. I landed there in 1971 doing the Big Escape from the Big Apple. Orff, Ralph, Kiskela, Cohen, Moody, Moore, Parent are some of the names from there that come easily. It became like home. Some day, some day.... It's not a place that's forgettable.

Are you familiar with Friendship? If you’ve been to Waldoboro I’m assuming you probably are but just curious.

Right? Anyone who would consider Augusta as a bad place to live, I would assume has never lived in literally any other state or town in the US 🤦🏼‍♀️

I recently moved from Maine to Minneapolis and I love where I live now. Having spent nearly all of my 40 years in Maine I can emphatically say that the best years of my life were going to school in Boston and these last two years living out West. Every facet of my life is better now, its so hard to even compare Third World Maine to the capital of the Great Lakes. Things he forgot to mention: Maine has one of the worst opiate problems in the country. Maine has more methadone clinics than states 4-10X their population. Alcoholism is rampant in fact in the 1800's the Temperance movement was started there. There was one distillery for every square block of city space and they rang the church bells at 10am and 2pm for what locals called Rum Hour. Everyone would pound spirits for an hour and go back to work. Maine usually ranks as one of the worst states for alcohol addiction nationally. Maine has one of the highest rates of births resulting in mental or physical disability. No one wants to talk about why twice as many people there are born incapacitated than in any other part of the US. Maine is the only New England state with a history of extensive KKK membership. Racism is abundant there given the fact that in the 1920's almost 50% of the state were card carrying, dues paying members of the Klan. I worked for a local pizza chain when I was young and met the family who actually founded the KKK in Maine(the family that owns _ats Pizza). The most disgusting, misogynist hate filled rednecks I've ever met. The job market is abysmal and wages are even worse; you can kiss your career goodbye. The only people who seemed to thrive there were retirees and trust fund kids. The cost of living is deceptively high; income and sales taxes are on par with national numbers but property taxes are far higher than other states and you get less in return. Imagine paying $5000-7000 / year in property tax on an avg. priced house and not even having running water or trash removal provided. Electricity, natural gas, heating oil, car insurance, food and clothes are all more expensive than national averages by a factor of 1.5-2X. Aroostook county is one of the fastest growing centers for methamphetamine arrests in the country. Lyme Disease is rampant and if the ticks don't carry Lyme they probably have have Anaplasmosis, babesiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever or worse. I once found 14 ticks on myself after a walk in the woods. Crime is under reported for more reasons than I can get into. Half my friends were diddled or raped growing up and schools, parents and authorities always looked the other way. That sort of thing doesn't happen here, its all good people here they would say. Nevertheless Maine has a higher rate of sexual assault and child molestation, as do most rural states. And just in case you're still reading; the locals are rude, insular, they have an inscrutable form of Pigeon English only they can speak and they smell like the mold covered trailers they all live in.

@@AA-il9pc I did go somewhere else you idiot. Never said Minnesota was worth caring about, just that I make 3 x as much money here. What I said, since your reading comprehension is obviously lacking, is that Maine is a worthless shithole.
