Honestly I have been seeing Ads for this for a while now and I was always amazed on how beautiful this set was. I always bring my poker chips to my boys houses when we play and I have the clay Davinci ones and they all love how cool they are. I decided to bite the bullet and buy this as well as the sample pack and the sample pack made me so excited to get the full set. I can't wait to get them in the mail within this next week or so. I really like the way that you review this product because you covered all of my questions that I would have while playing this!!!

Hey there, Ali! Thank you for your comment! ☺️ I tried looking up the clay da Vinci ones you mentioned but I don't think I found the set that you have! But yes, these are some absolutely next level poker chips for sure! Hope you and the boys get a lot of use out of this set! I think you'll love them! 🏴☠️ Really glad I was able to answer your questions for you!

I bought the iron clays 200 to act as universal coins. They're way better than cardboard but don't have as much heft as I would like. These look great and I agree with some of your critiques. I don't need ten denominations, but at least five to work with all my games. Also, they're a significant purchase.
@BoardGameDave Жыл бұрын
I'm a huge fan of the Iron Clays as well! (I bought them five months before I ever bought Brass: Birmingham!) 🚂 They have such a timeless aesthetic and I really enjoy using them for train and Western themed games! These are certainly heftier but also much less versatile thematically! But they are a treat to play with! 🏴☠️

Are you having to walk a mile or two to get to your poker destination? That's the only way I could see the weight being a problem. Unless you're just too weak to carry them to the car and back.

I have to drive over a half hour away and if I’m not early enough, I have to park at a school, 2 blocks away. At most, I can carry 2 larger games or 1 large and 2 small, so lugging that large box as well is out of the Question. Any games that I have, that require coins, have the small metal coins, that fit in the game box. They are still satisfying to handle, so why carry large? I don’t play poker, or other casino type games, so they are not necessarily. If I hosted game night, then there might be an interest, but I like the smaller ones for board games.
@BoardGameDave9 ай бұрын
Oh, I totally understand what you're saying! These are absolutely a super excessive luxury item, not something any gamer needs to own! Especially if you don't ever play poker! ☺️ A good, generic small metal coin set is all I need! And this would get really old to lug it from the car to game night back to the car! Good comment!

We give you grief about your metal coin addiction but I doubt any of us are annoyed by it lol As to the coins I look at it this way, if I play poker frequently it would definitely be a reasonable purchase.

Haha, I was looking for the right word... exasperated, maybe? Or maybe bemused, perhaps? 🤣 And yeah, if I regularly hosted poker nights and I knew my friends would appreciate this set I think it would certainly make for a justified expense!

Dave you might like the coins that are available as part of the obsession kickstarter thats on right now. I also just bought the generic metal coins (set of 55) for brass/lisboa and they are easily the best ones i have. Better than scythe, viticulture, rococo. Rococo are actually very meh / pretty disappointing and way way way overpriced
@BoardGameDave Жыл бұрын
Wow! Those coins look fantastic! 😍 And I like that they emphasized heftiness, "thematicness", and stackability! Very nice! And I've always liked the look of the Lisboa metal coins but I thought they looked fairly similar to the Rococo ones! Do you know if they're the same size? (The Rococo ones are very dainty!) And I don't remember how much they cost but they certainly weren't cheap! 😬 My go-to generic set is the one for Clans of Caledonia-I think they're amazing!

You never did what you actually do with poker chips, which is stacking them. I heard they are rather slippery and topple over easily. True?
@BoardGameDave Жыл бұрын
Hey there, Tom! I just finished playing some Texas Hold’em with Hannah and the chips stack great! The 1s and 5s (the ones with holes in the middle) are a bit more slick than the other two denominations but they’re not unwieldy or hard to stack at all! 👍🏼
@nachocheese33827 ай бұрын
This is pretty awesome but honestly at the price point for this set, the box should have much more of a flat pirate chest vibe.
@BoardGameDave7 ай бұрын
That's true-they could have done more with the box itself for sure! 🏴☠️
@samcai68744 ай бұрын
They might do well for board game chips but terrible as poker chips They don’t stacked well and don’t distinguish themselves well enough that people are always going to misjudge the stack
@BoardGameDave4 ай бұрын
I'll admit they're not perfect for poker (the distinguishability is a downside, like you pointed out) but they actually stack fine! They're little slick maybe, but you can make a pretty tall stack with no issues! (And I'm not just saying that-I just went down to the basement to give it a try!) 👍🏻

i know its been a year since this video so maybe you can tell me. Do any of the coins have discoloration to them?
@fmar528Ай бұрын
I bought a pack of 50 gold only coins for my boardgames. At first i had a honeymoon phase with them where i would treat them very delicately. But now i put them in a sack, jingling and scraping against each other all the time. Doing that does produce some tiny hard to see scratches (adds character and aesthetic really tbh) But as far as discoloration. I got them a year ago id say, and they dont rub off on my fingers or my boardgames or table. They still have that dull gold look on them like when i got them new. There will be very very minor defects on a few coins when you first get them, but its easy to ignore. They are quality checked before shipped. Too expensive if you wanted to get the FULL set. Best if you get just a few of the coins you DO like. But even then if its for board games then youd still need other metal coins to round out denominations. Be sure to check for discount codes before you order too.
@fmar528Ай бұрын
(In case i misinterpretted what you asked, the coins do have a non uniform coloration to them. Meaning you will get some coins rhat are darker or lighter than the rest)

Are they capable of "chip shuffling"?
@BoardGameDave Жыл бұрын
I couldn't see why not! I'm a very lousy chip shuffler so I can't speak to their shufflability but after some getting used to them I'd bet you could! 🔀
@moe555 Жыл бұрын
I disagree with @boardGameDave on this one. These are not really meant to be shuffled easily. The slight imperfections from coin to coin mean they don't stack as neatly and while they are heavier, they're also thinner than your typical poker chip. All that said, you MIGHT be able to shuffle them depending on your skills, but I can't see anyone doing it consistently with this set. I'd say forget the shuffling and get these mainly for the heft and metal feel / clink.

ok so on the cons's side...this dude thinks people can't tell if copper, is less or more than gold, or if gunmetal is less or more than silver?....why are you trying to play poker if you can't understand basic and extremely obvious differences, also the noise? who the hell plays poker on a hard loud surface like that? if your taking the game seriously enough to invest in this set, you have a table cloth or a matt or felt or something, also those cards...no self respecting poker player would ever bother with those. they're cheap and a lame after thought and badly printed. all in all this is WAY over priced for what it is. nice shill though
@BoardGameDaveАй бұрын
I brought up genuine concerns about the color differentiation and potentially the noisiness and you think I’m being unfair or too critical… but I’m also a shill? Odd. 🤔
@MadShepardАй бұрын
@@BoardGameDave definitely a shill, the "concerns" you bring up are pathetic and inconsequential to anyone who would be in the market for this kind of thing. which is an obvious technique to trivialize anything the product potentially lacks so that buyers feel more inclined (not having a problem with what you brought up) feel more inclined to spend the inflated price for the product. which boils down to "shill" I wasn't saying you were being over critical, i was saying you were being "critical" about things no one would really need ot be consearned with. you have to take in to account WHO would spend $300+ for this product....it's not gunna be anyone who can't tell the differents between silver and and gun metal, if it's any consolation, i agree with you on the cards, they're not good
