LOVE the vid. Tech tip, if not shared already... The Stans bottles and the larger refill bottles are made to dock with each other. Flip open large bottle, remove red tip from small bottle and insert into larger bottle until it clicks. Then flip entire unit upside down and alternate squeezing small bottle and big bottle until smaller one is sufficiently full. Flip back over and remove. You'll save SOOOOOO much sealant this way. Ride on brother!

Im an aspiring trail scholar, I put a cushcore in my rear wheel for mtn biking to save my rim from more dents. I had a similar amount of character building for the install but did it alone to avoid the peanut gallery heckling that patz was dishing out. That’s disappointing to hear that you still dinged your rim even with the cushcore. That’s the main selling point to save a rims life!

I've ran Cushcore on my Poseidon Redwood. There was a drop I did with a blind sharp rock. My rear wheel slammed right into it. My rim definitely got dented. But, I didn't catch a flat. And I still continued riding like normal. I only discovered the dent when I got home tho😂😂. As for mounting them on. I never had any issues with that. As long as you push that bead into the center of the rim, it's basically like mounting a tire without the insert. I just wish I put my cushcores on my Karate monkey before spring fling😭😭 that one rock caught me off guard. Greatful someone had a tire plug tho.

Screw tubeless, screw inserts. Pump tubes up real high, like 45-50 lbs, lol. I know, I know, the traction is less, the shock absorption is gone, but they don't flat. I'd rather ride rock hard tubes all day than spend a dime on sealant. Old man yells at cloud, over and out.
@I3ene1 Жыл бұрын
I think they are worth it. Less dings and flats. More grip and stability in corners. Just use some better tubeless sealant (orange seal) you are Gucci. 5-6 psi less sounds about right from my experience.
@jamesjenkins8373 Жыл бұрын
For cushcore if you put the tire on one side of the rim. Put the core in, stretch it on, then start putting the tire on the other side. Add a zip tie real tight around the tire and rim to keep it in the center. Work the other side on and you are in.
@FrankNeulichedl Жыл бұрын
Ha- Nice video. I have the Vittoria inserts in my Gravelbike - you actually cut them to size and stitch them with a cable tie - easy install and they are close to the rim for the protection and don’t interfere too much with the tire - but not for wide tires - they are optimized for 38-40 mm
@sandrochiavaro7831 Жыл бұрын
I tried Cushcore. I gave up after 1hour install and destroyed finger tips. That was on 35 mm gravel King tires. I think you have to have at least 25mm internal rims and 45 -48 mm tires. I think if you can fit them in, they make sense and are great for that extra Cush and protection.

I think I could have changed several flat tires in the time it took to put those inserts in. I'm sure they're better than the old Tuffy tire liners but I would rather have the squishy ride than flat prevention. As a side note, I've gone to tubulars and sealant on my MTB and gravel. We don't have the thorns and spikey rocks like other parts of the country. Like riding on pillows, they're just hard to find.

I tried a Vitoria airliner. It would stretch inside the tire over the course of a few months. Seemed to throw the balance off having this fun noodle thing wobbling around free of the rim once it had stretched enough. I must have resized it like 5 times and eventually just got tired of it. Also, I don't think it offered much protection, mostly just designed to take up volume.

Was thinking of crossing over to tubeless but was thinking of just getting the Tires with Kevlar already in them any thoughts on them ? I do have a 650b trash can though so I’m half way there .
@ultraromance Жыл бұрын
hi Greg ::: there are several tires including our ultradynamico robust casing that have sturdier sidewalls that would cause fewer pinch flats with your tubeless set up. the kevlar puncture belts added to some tires only line the tops of the tires to help prevent punctures on top --- something you don't really need to worry about much with tubeless as there is more rubber on the tops of tires and they seal with little issues mostly with fresh sealant. the Cush core would be the recommended way to go if you find you want to run lower pressures (about 5-7 psi) and not risk bottoming out on your rim.

@@ultraromance those silly companies putting reinforcements at the top... don't they realize 100% of all flats occur at the bottom of the tire? there's really some room for innovation here. get in that market niche.

Planning to run inserts with Robusto tires. From your experience, is that overkill or are race tires enough when riding in rocky trails, like the one you rode in this video?
@ultraromance Жыл бұрын
hello! depending on how rocky the stuff you are planning on riding is really. if you plan to really let loose through some chunky sharp rock stuff like they have out west, I would recommend ... but for most of the riding in the east coast, the rocks are a lot more worn and rounded. the robust casing has a nylon breaker that does pretty well against pinch flats without anything --- but for those big rocks on a rigid bike out west, I think I'd use em on everything

@RollinRat Awesome advice, cheers! Not looking forward to next re-install on them but it should at least be easier now that the cushcore has stretched in... I'm just never going to understand, why run a super light super supple tire, if you're just going to beef it up with all this other finnicky stuff to make sure you don't get a flat? What's the point of tryna go fast, if you're just gone wind up spending more time on the side of the road?
@ultraromance Жыл бұрын
the glove like grip of a light casing tire is an addictive flavor-- fun thing about these inserts is that you get to run the tires super low so they go even more glove like on the terrain without risking the pinch flat and rim dent. the flexible part of the tire still gets to do its thing, but as the "suspension" progresses, it bottoms on the foam instead of the bare rim then hence pinches a tubeless set up. its been fun to follow in road racing too --- I like playing around with this kinda stuff --- would I say its a must have? probably not --- but it did make it possible for me to ride the tires I wanted in Sedona without obliterating my wheels.
