Are Toad Dragons Any Good in Patch 5.0? - Nurgle Unit Focus

The Toad Dragon comes as a heavy-hitter with the new Nurgle "mortal" hordes. It's in the Elemental Incarnate level of weight class, a Jabberslythe-esque infantry crusher, and it even resists missiles to an extent. What's not to love? Including its adorable face! Come on, where do you go for something this hideous?

Tried playing nurgle after the rework only to realize that i need the warriors of chaos dlc if i want to have any decent early game infantry

Well Tamurkhan definitely wants a flood of mortal units one way or another. Others.. they can get by, but the DLC stuff is definitely really good for them.

Well warriors of chaos dlc is one of the best in the game so you should get it eventually either way

As an long terme kugath payer, i can say that even if the WoC DLC is welcomed. Plague bearer and plague toads can do the work.Even in legendary difficulty. But u will have rough time dealing with single entity witheout the exhalted hero. I advice investing in two heroes from the magic lore alvailable and having a cultist to Grant access to great unclean.

Huh, the contact effect detail is an interesting point. They're certainly a spooky beastie. Fun to have and see at play.

It's an interesting unit- great HP, Strider, Poison damage' decent speed and excellent range resistance- something that is badly needed for Nurgle roster. He does, however, have some unique shortcomings relatively low armor- 60- below elite level monsters. Also Basic Damage/Armor Piercing Damage split is unusually low- 46%/54%, which means that almost 50% of his Damage will be mitigated by units with high armor. That will make it underperform against elite armored Halberdriers as well as elite armored SEMs and Lords. Amd finally, it will cause 20% less damage to big demons since it does Physical damage. It's a great addition to Nurgle roster overall.

The breath attacks help to some extent, but yes it does have some shortcomings.

I have had no complaints with this beast when I keep it away from missile units. Rarely use the breath attack though, kinda sad on that, but otherwise I fell in love immediately.

Well with War Hydras you're getting a big reduction in power if you don't get them free enough for at least two breaths, but the Toad Dragon damages so many entities in melee, it's just FINE. It's the pig in the muddy pen. You hurt yourself trying to wrestle with it in its own element. So for the toad dragons I'd just slip in breath attacks like I did here, when one group is crushed and I'm moving onto the next fight.

Hey no need to clarify that they were introduced in 5.0. I think patch number is important for archival and future viewing purposes. Who knows what CA might change a few patches down the line.

I’ve seen how they can be in doom stacks, these things can crush whole armies like nothing if upgraded to their fullest.

Yeah, I counted 3 different levels you increase their Weapon Strength just from red line/ techs, independent of magic.

They need a reduction in upkeep and an increase in physical resistance.

I'm not a multiplayer guy, but I can see why you'd really want those changes either way. I'll have to use these in campaign properly and take their measure more.

For all the op units that came in thrones with decay the toad dragon isn’t one of them. Still love him tho 🐸

Nice video! I love the toad dragons. I use them often. Especially with Tamurkhan. They are really good against infatry. Can you do a "Is Kroq gar any good"? :) Would be inttesting to see. He gets 1% weapon strength per level in his faction. He is really really good against large due to his carnosaur and his endgame stats can get very good. And maybe the same with the Hunter hero from the Orges. There is no better infatry shredder when he sits on his mount. One time i got 100k dmg agaisnt 2 empire stacks. One of the best heros out there. Keep up the good work! :D

Sounds like he's changed a bit since last I touched Lizardmen seriously, so I'll give the issue some thought. I'm running low on Dwarfs and Nurgle content now that I JUST NOW published my Grudge Settler montage. I mostly tried Tehenhauin with Lizardmen and that campaign's changed a lot too.. well, back when he and Morathi were legit tough. Morathi not so much now....

@@OffToBattle Yeah. Campain wise tehenauhin is the best lizard. I just like Kroq gar as an charakter more and i like his mechanic with the weapon strength per level. His starting position is a bit shit but i like him still the most. :D

Stats don't matter this things charge animations are top tier and plow through infantry all day.
