One use i have started to like to hewers is as flank guards in formations i mean usually flankers are cavs and if hewer crew ends up in melee as you said in this video they are still crew of slayes so they can hold on theirn own for sometime

I don't think the Tomb Kings need a major rework, their campaign feels incredibly well done thematically and their mechanics are fun in my opinion. I just think they could use buffs and tweaks to some things like: global recruitment of their tier 4 and tier 5 units, some of the books of Nagash, the realm of souls is okay, but it's annoying that it does nothing for construct armies and they could make some of the tech tree lords and proclamations more interesting rather than like +5% income from settlement buildings and +5 winds for all armies. They also suffer from 3 of the 4 lords starting in close proximity while not being able to confederate making campaigns feel quite similar after a couple dozen turns while Khatep has just a bizzare start location. Also I would like to see a couple new units for them like higher tier ap chariots, a legendary hero, and something that could be cool is flying ushabti units, something like vargheists maybe. Plus more generic lord options would be welcome. Also Settra's bonuses to relations with Tomb King factions feels pretty useless often as you are incentivized to take out Arkhan (which makes sense) and Khalida if she doesn't die on turn 8 and there isn't enough minor Tomb King factions to make good use of it. It's a pretty long list, but I think they would feel mostly fine with just some of these changes.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 9 сағат бұрын
Yeah, a few tweaks and they'd be in a better place. It is my continued belief they didn't touch this earlier because GW was being hyper-sensitive about factions being updated for The Old World in tabletop. (The other being Bretonnia and we're seeing signs of life on that front.)

Research tree will come eventually, but the tree I want to put in your mind is how Settra's video was mandatory for doing Khalida, who I've played extensively, Arkhan and Khatep, who I haven't, and the generic Tomb Kings and the dynasty-specific tech tree lords, which gives me an excuse to get into some of the research tree in manageable slices. I'll start putting together a Khalida script today.

Such a great lord! He can do pretty much everything, buffs your best infantry, and is surrounded by special landmarks that significantly boost your empire. Being sandwiched between Mannfred and Skarbrand can get a bit dicey, especially if they both declare war before you're able to raise a second army. Fun times.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle Күн бұрын
Yeah, you have lots of choices about which aspect to favor, but CA's made it a lot less punishing to favor casting, and the mount boosts help casting indirectly by providing the speedy caster option still hitting hard. The builder of empires can enjoy lots of breadth.

He's not good. And neither are the Tomb Kings. They are weak. But they are still incredibly fun! Settra's tomb guard build is no joke. Just a really weak start that's all. A Tomb Kings rework would be great. The rise of the tomb kings is still the best faction DLC CA has ever made. Better than the Chaos Dwarfs (which is a close second). But yeah... they're kind of weak. I guess that's built into the thing though because if you lose your entire army you just rebuild it for free. Running up against a level 20+ Skarbrand is still a really bad day though on legendary/VH. Here's the thing though... Tomb King magic is all about debuffs and buffs. It's not your typical kill magic and so it looks like it is weak. But it's not. It's just a different play style.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle Күн бұрын
That second paragraph, I'd upvote a hundred times if I could. It's a roster that rewards buffs / debuffs in the heat of combat too. Definitely can't be accused of being an overpowered faction, but that's why I love this video series, familiarity really raises a player's ability to squeeze more blood from a skeleton.

Settra is a very balanced character- he is a good combatant, excellent army leader who provides buffs to many key TK units and a very competent spell caster. He has a nice selection of Mounts, that allows him to play different roles on the battlefield. His Chariot of the Gods is totally unique and gives Settra absolutely ridiculous Charge Bonus and infantry mulching potential. I feel that Settra's greatest strength is his flexibility- he can do pretty much anything on the battlefield- from Lord sniping to blob destruction. It seems from your video that the Chariot of the Gods could use a mass increase- it looked like it got stuck right after hitting Tier 1 Empire infantry. Overall, this is a very informative and in-depth video. Thank you.

@OffToBattle Күн бұрын
I'm so glad I could do justice to all the flexibility you mention. The other LL's will be less so, but that's fine. I can compare them to Settra a couple of times for reference and information. Khalida's the easiest script to do next, and she's the only non caster lord of the LL's. Also the one youtubers dump on the most (faction-wise). I think it's like Aranessa, it's part the "She's not complete without Neferata!" gripe. Which is fair...

@@OffToBattle I feel that all Tomb King Lords are unique- Settra being the warrior (mostly), Khalida is a non- caster poison/Ranged specialist, Arkhan being the evil wizard/vampire and Khatep being a good wizard. If Tomb Kings lack anything, it would be generic Lords. Although, more Legendary Lords would certainly be welcome.

Also, I am not sure if it is still the case on the current patch but on Settra's start if you went for the TK minor faction first instead of the vampire one, they would recruit a terrorgheist as the last unit. Mostly agree. Control builds are good enough so low opportunity cost to hiring them, they give you something you otherwise lack, and can do "some" work. In Multiplayer I would say or two, absolute max, and only if the enemy isn't bringing either heavy air or anti air power. They're not amazing, but they can tie up a vital cannon for a little while or disrupt some elite ranged units.

I'm slightly confused on the in-game wording on Glorious Charge, though your description of it "boosting flanking attacks" may have cleared things up: "Enemy units take a Leadership penalty *as if* they have been attacked in the flank. So based on how you talked about it in the video, it's a bonus leadership penalty of about the same numerical value he applies whenever he charges an enemy so he can double-up by charging the flanks/rear. Am I understanding it correctly?
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 2 күн бұрын
It sounds like that, but because I didn't study Kislev in detail I didn't dwell, it's a bonus, not the part that really makes or breaks Chariot of the Gods for him. I mean, without extra items or Tombstrike running he doesn't inflict Terror to exploit it. The influence on damage, when he can get charge bonus north of 170, is in contrast very substantial. You're getting that bonus (but not collision attacks) even once his charge 'stalls' until... well, it's probably meaningful 20 seconds in, which is ridiculous.

@@OffToBattle too add to this, the ability inflicts the same leadership debuff as it would be attacking an enemy in the rear, EVEN IF it attacks them from the front. @@OffToBattlewith that said, even tho I have not tried golden wheels settra that much, I stand by the lack of usability in chariots as I have complained about on your other videos. Yes he ys better than their regular chariots since he is a solo one and won't get stuck on himself, but even in your video it's clear that unless you actively micromanage and pull him through a unit, he will stop there on his own and just be trapped. I remain with the opinion that Katarina is (no matter how large your charge bonus is) still the only good chariot in the game, since she is the only one that doesn't automatically stops dead halfway through a unit, she keeps going and turns around. Settra, if anyone, should have the same mechanic. (and honestly the exalted seekers too) In short, even the greatest king is bad on a chariot, unless you are willing to babysit him literally every second of the game, simply Becasue chariot mechanics sucks, even after a dozen reworks

I would like to point out a major difference between the archer chariots and the melee chariots: The archer chariots have only one attack animation post-charge, and it's a headbutt from the horses pulling the chariots while the melee-only chariots can attack with the horse headbutt or the guy behind the driver swinging the glaive/halberd off either side. Despite their stats being the exact same, the melee only chariots tend to survive a lot better when left in melee for extended periods (like trying to ensure a wavering unit routes after the charge) because they disrupt attackers from the sides while the archer chariots will take all of those hits instead.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 2 күн бұрын
Although I've seen the animation, I wasn't confident about saying the melee ones had it and the archer ones don't, but I can vouch for the melee ones doing shockingly well in melee combat. Well, the riders for the archer ones are literal archer skeletons? So they don't have the halberd to swing. While it seems they're governed by the same maximum targets damaged limitation, disruption is helpful.

@@OffToBattle I just recently thought about why when I started a Settra campaign the archer chariots would take so much damage just form running over and staying to crumble the skeleton archers in the opposing starting army & settlement when the melee ones I recruited afterwards could sit in melee much better. I tested by putting together a quick Skirmish vs AI and had two of each run over their own unit of clanrats with shields and sit on them until they routed. The melee chariots routed them a tiny bit faster but took noticeably less damage in the process.

Really theres only 1 thing keeping this thing from being utterly utterly busted and that's the price on this thing; it costs as much as some buildings and has a not inconsiderable upkeep for a race that doesn't have especially good income. That having been said once you get going it offers very little counterplay; I don't think theres any infantry unit that has the slightest chance of stopping or signifigantly hurting it, cavalry will pretty much bounce off of it and it's such a dump truck that it can probably square up with other monsters and/or lords and at a minimum take a long ass time to die. Maybe if you're dealing with a dedicated artillery/ranged spam army like dwarves, skaven or empire you'll have a problem but even then it's still doing a valuable job of eating up all the damage that would be going into your ranks of saurus that are marching up the field. Point is: this thing wins pretty much every melee phase you put it in. Interestingly, the one time I had to deal with this obscenity it was actually insanely easy; it was a quest battle with Imrik and my one

This is a missing link between Nehekhara Horsemen and Necropolis Knights. They have solid stats and can beat some good cav units like Reiksguard and Gryphon Legion. I noticed that CA significantly buffed some Tomb Kings ROR's, including this unit, Carrion and Legendary Necropolis knights unit. Their stat lines are buffed well in excess of level 9 units of their class. And they change 4-5 basic characteristics, not just 1-2 you typically see in a ROR. On the other hand, unit does not get any unique abilities, but still remains incredibly viable due to the overall massive improvements. I really like this approach to RORs, as it makes them much more unpredictable and powerful. Stormriders definitely add something to Tomb King roster that it did not have previously- a fast, hard-hitting and durable cavalry that can hold its own in most engagements and combines best features of Shock and Melee cavalry.

All well said. I think CA got lenient with these units because you have to "buy" them with jars not just rise in level.

One has armor and HP, the other has ethereal? Feels like a good mix.

hm, should I make a pun about Riders on the Storm or about Ghost Rider? Tough call. Anyway I never gave them a close look, had no idea they were so different from nehekara horsemen

The HP being that high is kind of crazy if nothing else, but lots of players find the regular speed creaky. This is a lot less so...

a long time ago, I was playing Tomb Kings (Total War 2). I managed to have enough heros with "bonus rank" in 1 army so my home army units STARTED rank 7-9. This is the army which I kept at home to produce units and move them upto the front after casualties.

Yeah, once you're at that point you can just drown enemies in veteran armies as if YOU are the AI on Legendary. It's kinda funny.

Yeah they're fun because they have no right to have the impact they do.. unless everything and its dog is armored.

@@OffToBattle and more power to you! They have great voice. Fine magic lore. Great skills. But I like my magic casters in the sky. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
