The thing that depresses me, when I think about it, is that we're simply in the arse-end of the universe and nobody can be bothered to even try to come and visit to find out if we're here. Elsewhere in the inhabited universe, millions of different alien races are having all sorts of exciting fun trading, drinking, interbreed ING, and have really amazing interplanetary space battles with brilliant special effects and whoosh-crikey laser beams... And there's us. Billy no-mates.

@mspicer32623 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of scale. That's why we haven't detected a signal from anybody out there. Consider this, we sent the first really powerful signal into space only about 75 years ago. Travelling at the speed of light, that's a bubble about 75 light-years across, in a pond that is 100,000+ light-years across and 15,000 light-years deep. Any other civilization out there is in the same boat. There could be a civilization that sent its first radio signal into space 23,000 years ago, but they're located 25,000 light-years away, so it's going to be a while before we hear from them. These incredibly ridiculous distances are the same reason I doubt the stories of "alien visitors".

Let me see? The number of suns in our galaxy is a number I find hard to contemplate. Then there are a similar number of galaxies. Yes we hear about planets in goldilock zones, etc. . However, now we are considering that there may be life on the moons of jupiter, saturn, etc. with potential oceans under the ice layers which could be heated by the core of these celestial bodies. Recently we have some evidence that they may be life in the clouds of Venus and whilst life may not be present on Mars now, there seems to be fairly substantial evidence that there once was. Thus in 2021 we have still no discounted the possibility of life in our solar system on planets, etc other than our own and are not likely to in the foreseeable future. And this is only a search mostly based on carbon life forms. Now consider the shear unbelievable size of the universe. Thus my conclusion based on simple mathematics is an absolute 100% yes that life must exist elsewhere. Enough said.

Detecting intelligent life on another planet is such a long shot when we consider the development of our own technologies. Our species (Homo sapiens) have existed roughly 400,000 years yet we have only been able to send an amplified radio signal into space for less than 100 years. To make contact our technological capability window would need to align with that of the corresponding extraterrestrial species. Who knows if that alignment is even possible?
