Wisconsin requires attendance but no one checks unless someone is reported. And then the state can come in and ask for the records. It might be similar to that. It’s honestly sounds scarier than it is

This is one of my favorite videos you have posted. Yes, everything is going to be fine! I totally understand your concerns about limited co-ops and wanting to make sure your children have the opportunity to form strong friendships. We have no way of knowing what the future holds, but things have a way of working themselves out.

As a military homeschooling family I totally feel all of this! We stared homeschooling when we moved to AZ and knew it would be relatively short-term (around 2 years) and so I never felt super called to join groups, co-ops, etc. Now we're preparing for our final move back to our home state and I know it will probably be a season or two before we do join any of that stuff hardcore because of job changes etc. Good luck on your move! We're a few months probably behind you guys so I'm sure I'll be watching them all as I start packing up eventually!!

Highly recommend looking in to 4-H in your new area. It's not just animals and cooking, there are tons of opportunities from hiking and STEM to coding and public speaking. We are a part of a co-op but 4-H is a regular part of our schedule and they schedule around the "normal" 9-5 jobs, lots of things are evening and weekends.

I’ve never heard of that…what is 4-H?

@@gatheredandgrounded it's a national organization that each state/county has their own programs. It stands for Head/Heart/Hands/Health, was originally more of a rural thing but now is huge. Most county 4-H programs are a part of a county's Cooperative Extension. They have smaller clubs in each county with a different focus. Hhhhmmmm, there's so much to 4-H that it's hard to explain all that it has to offer. Definitely look in to it, there's all kinds of options and it is such a great organization.

We just recently moved. I choose to stop co-ops and sports. My kids joined American heritage girls/ trail life and they still get the field trips and knowledge from earing badges all after working hours. It checks the co-op box for us. We also do Awana and sunday school. Between those and them playing with neighborhood kids daily, they are thriving socially. I love having the same daily routine now too.

I homeschool in Ohio. The state use to be a lot more like how North Dakota was until last year. We had to notify every year, provide what we were teaching each year, parents needed Highschool diplomas or equivalent, and we had to test every year. Also we had to have 900 hours of instruction, but didn't have to send any proof (always seemed odd to me lol). Last year, they passed a new law that pretty much got rid of everything. Now we just send a letter once a year saying this is who is being homeschooled and who is doing it. That's it. We don't even list birthdays on it! Do you issue the diploma for your graduate when they are complete, or do you have to do something with the state for those? We have a Diploma Fairness Act in Ohio, where parents issue their own diplomas and they are to be treated as equivalent to a Highschool Diploma. I always find it crazy all the states are all so different lol.

I know in Nevada we issue the diplomas but I will have to dig deeper and see how it is in North Dakota. It is so interesting to me how different is in each state

We live in very rural South Dakota and I work outside the home. Although there are a good many kids that homeschool in our area, there is no such thing as a coop. We would have to drive over an hour to get to one. We alternate gymnastics and a full day science/STEM program (mostly) every Friday. We also see friends and neighbors at church and other community functions. So far, my kiddo doesn’t complain and I don’t feel like she’s missing out on anything. Good luck with your move :)

We used to live in ND and started our homeschool journey there. It was easy breezy. North Dakota is a wonderful place to raise a family. There was a huge homeschool community where we lived. They definitely make it sound more intimidating than it is. There is also an easy to fill out religious exemption form if that’s something you need.

I do think normal kid activities, neighborhood kid friends, etc. Is enough. My kids are in some homeschooling groups, etc but if we quit all of that they would still have plenty of time with friends through their activities. My husband was homeschooled and he would just play with his neighborhood friends once they got out of school. They played in the streets for hours. As well as played sports with his friends. That was plenty for him. Just my opinion! Congrats on your move. I’m sure you are feeling decision fatigue. This too shall pass! ❤

It’s so hard to work full time during the day and homeschool your children. I feel your pain in trying to find after work hour opportunities.

We moved two years to a town that homeschool really isn’t a thing. The sports are only for public school children and no extra groups outside that. We left an amazing community. I felt how you are feeling and it definitely feels lonely at times but my son doesn’t really seem to be missing anything. I do have him do a few Outschool classes a week.

I'm a working homeschool mom too that "technically" doesn't have to work, but I want to! Do you have an option to find something part time or start your own business doing consulting, etc?
