I can't bear to watch something like this end so sadly, so here's my headcanon: After Sonic and Silver get rid of the metal virus, Mighty and Ray wake up still hugging each other (I know they'd be zombie-like so they'd probably move around, but let's pretend they stay immobile). Everything's back to normal, the two go MIA again, happy ending :D

No even better! At the exact moment they fully turn, Sonic and Silver get rid of it before then even have a chance to move! They blink and look around confused for a moment before getting up and deciding to head to Angel Island as that place is the safest place they know of, helping people and getting the info on what happened along the way. By the time they make it to Angel Island Knuckles is already gone, taken to The Star Fall Islands. They decide to stay to wait for him to get back and protect the island until he gets back. They also decided to explore said island, thus being MIA again!
