Exactly, and I think we see small parts of the 4th dimension from time to time, but we cannot understand what we are seeing. We could be as insignificant as ants or germs to higher dimension beings

It’s funny that Lex cites emotions/feelings as evidence of this not being a simulation. If anything I’d argue that emotions that we know can be manipulated and instigated with chemical reactions and drugs/alcohol, etc. would be evidence of the simulation lol

I used to be into simulation theory but with time it just seems more like an abstract concept we naturally gravitate towards due to our current technological state. Imagine if scientists found a way to manipulate dreams before we invented 3D games. Would simulation theory be relevant still ? The only pattern I see is that the more we distance ourselves from movement and feelings to cognition and thoughts, the more delusional it gets

Really? I see this as being a perennially debated philosophical position (and taken seriously as that), right from ancient Hindu and Buddhist notions of Maya, Plato’s cave, Descartes’ demon, various forms of idealism, etc. This is just the latest iteration (understandably, couched in a technological metaphor)

Suffering used to be my argument against this being a simulation. But then if all the other people are just NPCs without consciousness then that argument goes out the window. But... I have sentience and I suffer. So... There's that. But then my suffering is not as bad as what I see happening around this world. Still it is pain and suffering. So... The only way I can see this as being ethical is if I chose to experience this knowing I'd suffer. Why? Maybe to learn something.

He got defensive on the question of life being a simulation. I think the terminology of "video game" he took somewhat disrespectful as the term makes light of those living a more "serious" life. It's one of those things that a simple life rarely considers. Maybe return the question at a point with better terminology. Define simulation better than "a video game" bc I can agree. Using a video game as a description for something as intense as life is a low blow considering how complex life seems to be

Ps I think the idea of putting yourself in a reality that’s not yours and not how you grew up. Would be an interesting offer to those trying to understand life from another persons perspective. It could be Ben be a way of understanding a person in the future to a way of punishing a person to make them understand them. Also can be a way of understanding yourself and how you would do in another life of how you grew up. Would being poor not affect you. Would drugs not affect you. And in the same aspect would money not being affect you.! If you was a meth head and was rich growing up!
