Soviet recon patrol planes would fly across international airspace over the North Sea during the Cold War. They were always intercepted by NATO fighter planes in a similar manner as shown in this video, the level of 'agressiveness' depending on the political situation at the moment. Normally, both planes' crews would wave to each other and take photos. In worst cases, they would give each other the finger. Whatever you may say about the former Soviet Union, in all those years they never complained about the agressive intercepts by NATO.

My point is : as long as any nation is operating spy planes - they will operate near their targets. Otherwise those machines are useless. For the procedure for that is to cut two engines you drop your flaps you lose altitude and you cruise at a very slow speed too slow for the jet to keep with you. That's how we used to do it with the Soviets and the Chinese and the North Koreans. I'm assuming that this was for a media show whether Canadians I would assume they would have the same procedures that we did in the US Navy.

This would all change if they entered Canadian territorial waters and/or airspace. China on the other hand condemns no matter if Canada is in international waters or in Chinese territory. I don't know the context in which this took place, but if it was Chinese airspace, they would have every right to stop Canadian military aircraft. And if it's international airspace, why are Canadian planes allowed to fly while Chinese planes are not? Western colonialism always considered Asian countries as third world countries that could easily be dominated by them. I think that era is over, and they need to respect Asian countries more, not just China.
