Dude, this is definitely something park fans should be talking about. I’ve been DJing at Disneyland for 13 years. It wasn’t until the last summer. After my wedding, someone was watching me and waiting as I broke down. When I went to load my car. I left my board and computer inside my car. Went back to get the rest of my gear and the same guy who was watching me stole my gear and drove off. Disneylands been one of the safest venues I’ve worked and it was the one place I let me guard down cause I’ve always been comfortable at Disney land. Even performers aren’t safe from bad people taking advantage of people’s trust in Disneyland. Please always look around you even at the happiest place on earth.

In the 80s I was there with a bunch of teenagers. One of my friends was dared to get out of the boat on Small World. He didn’t even get one hand out on the place he was going to jump when a voice came over the speaker and said “stay in your boat!” Another example, probably early 2000s. My family went on Splash Mountain. My youngest was so scared about the drop, that he was sobbing through the whole ride. They stopped log at the lift hill for the final drop and a cast member asked if we wanted to get off and he walked us down the back of the mountain. They obviously have cameras everywhere but are they so short staffed that no one monitors them anymore?

I remember watching that Toon Town video and thinking, "This will be quick. They'll get swarmed because Disney would never want guests to see this." and then a minute later, "Any second now. They'll be on them..." I think the more disappointing thing is that even since then there have been other incidents that also lasted a long time. Is it happening so often that Disney can only swat down so many at a time? Or are they just not improving their response? Thanks for bringing up the tough questions in a practical, respectful way!

Yup, I think we were all thinking that. It did take way too long and ToonTown is right next to backstage! So we have to assume there’s plenty of CMs not far away! But even when security was there, they don’t DO anything. So, security needs better training and more authority from the city to physically get involved.

I'm a Disney content creator and it baffles me that people would pay so much money to enter the parks to do terrible things to others, families fighting families, or earn permanent banning...for what? You go through so much security... drug and weapon dogs, Anaheim police, Disney security both uniformed and undercover...it's amazing.

I saw an under cover security guard in the park. They look like regular park goers. The day you did your Bench Mark was the day I notice one of them. I was talking to Chris Provost and the U.C. Security came up to us and introduced himself. I think it caught us both off guard. he pulled out his badge and said he was security and was a big fan. True Story.

2019 my wife and I were staying at art of animation. I was walking my dog before we headed to the parks for the day and had started to hear some commotion coming from behind me near one of the hotel building wings (cars family suites). I turn around and see a couple physically fighting while their two kids, maybe 5 and 7 years old, were in between trying to break them up. Woman was hooking off on a guy while he was basically just trying to defend his face and yelling at her that he's done he's leaving leave him alone. I went to call the police when (what i thought luckily) i happen to see a security guard rolling by on a bicycle. I wave them down and pretty quickly explain to them that i just witnessed a couple fighting physically with children involved....the guard literally looked at me like i had 5 heads. I was almost confused as to what was happening - how was this guard staring so blankly at what i was saying? Finally, after an awkward few seconds of me waiting for a reaction, i say "What the f&#* are you doing!? I just told you someone was fighting and your standing here staring at me!". The guard seemed to snap out of it and sort of begrudgingly proceed to, at a glacial pace, park the bicycle and take his sweet ass time doing so. While this was happening, the two kids actually popped out of the side door, looked down and saw me talking to the guard (i noticed them noticing me when their parents were fighting) and quickly ran back inside. I mentioned to the guard that those kids were the ones i just saw with the fighting parents....zero care. I was blown away at how this was unfolding. Long story already too long to be short, guard eventually casually walks up the floor that i saw the kids pop out of, spend about a minute inside before coming back out and telling me they don't see anyone or kids in there. Like as almost i was seeing things or like its not that big a deal.... I was just floored and kinda just over the entire exchange and basically just walked away from there. To wrap up the story here, about an hour later i saw the family at the bus stop. Father was keeping his distance from mother, kids sitting being innocent kids caught in a shitty and probably now cold and awkward situation. It was such a shitty thing to watch unfold.

Disney Security is great, but it's thin, and it's not focused in attractions, where the least amount of problems happen, and especially not in Toontown. Now, Disneyland has had a run of nudists go through their property over time. Normally these people tend to pop up at Grad Night, are young, and are rather unremarkable. The Small World incident is a bi of outlier, and it takes time to respond to that. While I'm not overly concerned about these incidents. A family feud is a thing that is completely random and is way outside of Disney's control, the fact that they are considering selling more alcohol at the parks does mean I feel Disney is going to need to up their Security Game, just a little. I still expect these things to be the exception to the rule, but it's a park with a population of a small city at times running through it. It is hard to cover everything and still feel welcoming.

The average attendance to DLR is around 80,000 guests and about 5,000 CMs working each day, so that means there are about 85,000 video cameras ready to capture the next viral moment. In the past these moments of bad decisions by guests at Disneyland ended up being Tall Tales of lore without video proof. I feel there were more crazy viral moments happening in DLR in the past when it was easier to get away with it. Thanks for starting this discussion.

My brother was well known by security back in the 90s for getting too wasted on booze or drugs to handle himself in public, doing just as bizarre stuff as nudist guy (except not getting nude lol), getting popped by security, arrested by Anaheim PD, and permanently banned from the park- over and over again LMFAO. If it had been the internet & smartphone era I can assure you he would have gone just as viral as nudist guy hahahaha. I knew someone who got lost at Disney World when she was a little girl. Someone took her hand…she thought it was a grown-up who would help find her parents…instead this person turned her hand over and extinguished a hot cigarette into her palm, burning a hole. Horrible story. She was still upset years later and I don’t blame her. People say kids are “resilient” but they’re honestly not. Something that seems like no big deal or a joke to adults-like this small world guy-can traumatize kids for years.

What we should be talking about is Disney’s security and what they’re legally allowed to do. If they have a “no touch” policy, then Disney needs to have a budget to keep Anaheim police on site and in every land. Or at least one per two lands.
@vbar66l93
@vbar66l93 7 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct. They let these incidents happen for way too long!! What’s the point of security if they don’t get involved. Security needs to be given the ability to get more involved than they do. Anaheim police are not going to be able to get there as quickly as security can. Disney needs to pay for more Anaheim police to be present onsite.

I thought the naked guy was a psychotic break sorry of thing, not sexually motivated. People experiencing mental health crises of an extreme nature can tend to disrobe. The video I saw looked like he was in psychosis, not a random streaker doing it for the perverse thrill. I was on Small World just a few hours ago and was thinking about him and hoping he got help. At Disney World last year, a young woman pushing a stroller took out her breast to flash her friend twenty feet away. Then she started yelling at me like I had said something about it. I hadn't reacted at all. No one ever came to detain her. I was pretty sure cast members saw her, too.

Brickey. In the late 70's, my brother and I would go to the park with a straw and a pocket full of napkins so we could take a trip on the skyway and see how many people we could shoot spit wads down onto. We never got caught. In the 90's, my friends and I, again on the skyway, would smoke a joint as we went through the Matterhorn. We didn't intentionally try to "break the rules", we were just having fun, but got away with a lot back then.

In the early 80s I got to go to the cast opening night for new Fantasyland because my brother was in the parade. One of the sponsors was a raisin company so there were free bowls of mini raisin boxes everywhere. We were throwing raisins at people from the Skyway, which did a nonstop round trip through Tomorrowland and back because only Fantasyland was open that night.

there is a threshold that has to be passed,before security can take action.....and you are asking a lot from cast members to even protect themselves....they are probably in the most danger of all...particularly ones in costume...they literally have to have security follow them around,and keep an eye on whats going on around them.(a cast member in character cant fight back)

Someone starting a fight, yelling racial slurs or any foolish behaviour at Disney World, on an airplane, at a restaurant, or anywhere for that matter was never national news when I was a kid, but now anyone can record and broadcast videos of people acting up and so we all know about it when it happens at that time.

Hey Brickey, I think we are safer in the parks now in many ways but there are some things that are almost impossible to stop. The getting out of the boat, going into the set pieces and taking his clothes off is going to be almost impossible to stop unless Disney starts seat belting all of us into every ride vehicle and that won't stop the crazy behavior either because they will just do it somewhere they are not belted into a vehicle.. There was a much more serious incident in the early '70s (estimating here) where someone brought a pistol into the park and fired at least 3shots into 3 different rides. The story I have heard was that it was someone in a military uniform but that's hard to confirm. They were never caught. What you can see for sure is the holes in the glass at the Haunted Mansion and in the Grand Canyon Diorama. I'm told there was a third hole in a snowflake on Adventures Through Inner space but I never saw that one. In the Mansion in the ballroom scene the 2nd to last pane of glass has a spider over the bullet hole. In the diorama the first pane (if my memory is correct) of glass has a bullet hole clearly visible at just about eye level. So someone not only got into the park with a gun, they fired at least 3 shots. The glass in both locations is probably too thick to be penetrated by a BB gun so it must have ben at least small caliber gun. Hopefully the metal detectors and added security will stop any of that kind of nonsense in the future.

Tangentially makes me think about a dear friend, a Vietnam vet now in his late 70s, who was turned away at the DL gate with his kids in the 70s due to his too-long hair. Hope the madness doesn’t lead to more profiling. When I was a teen, DL was well known for breaking up same-sex couples dancing, & ejecting them from the park. Guessing DL asked for any extra trouble there. I know you’re not suggesting those days should come back Brickey, I just worry the bad apples could cause an unfortunate backlash. Re Cast members, experienced an earthquake situation one night in the 2000s, the young cast members, bless them, were massively confused and caused a bit more trouble than they were helpful. More training all around would be very useful. Guess I’m agreeing, good to be prepared, as sometimes people or nature create unexpected chaos. Watch your own back, know where you are. It’s never been a perfect world anywhere. Tho in DL it usually gets pretty close.

I have noticed that Disneyland does not have Visible security anymore. Lately I've seen a few security. I gladly give e my money to Disneyland because of a lot of reasons, cleanliness, rides, food, top notch shows,parads,entertainment and security. About 20 years ago I was contemplating where to get theme park passes. Knotts berry farm was not safe and run down, so Disneyland it was but if they don't keep that sa.e level of quality, they will lose my business because my Family come 1st.7 of us have had passes all those years except during the pandemic.

They can probably walk right through and without going through metal detectors. They also can be more relaxed in the morning time as well. It’s wild how accurate this is. We just had a guided tour this week and asked our guide specifically about the most recent incident. It was wild to learn that 1) they found out when they did only because an off work cast member was on the ride and reported it on their Disney communication channel 2) cast members AND SECURITY were instructed not to intervene and wait for Anaheim PD and 3) Anaheim PD has to respond from outside the park gates due to Disneyland not wanting the perception of armed security in the park. Their security infrastructure and response procedures (while I understand the POV of perception and not losing the “Disney magic”) are scary and designed to be reactive and not proactive.

Do you REALLY not understand why ordinary Disney cast members and security would be ordered to wait for the police when someone who is acting wildly unpredictably and could be on drugs or mentally ill? Do you think Disney wants to be liable for ordering untrained teenage/young adult cast members to confront a person who was obviously on drugs and/or experiencing a psychotic break from reality who might be dangerous?

I think your expectation that there is security constantly watching over the parks with security cameras is not reasonable. That does not happen other places in our society. However, Disney does need to improve security and also empower and expect CMs to reinforce the rules and expectations. Many guests know that CMs aren’t supported in reinforcing the rules, so guests push the limits and it can escalate.

I 1000% agree with you Brickey. Disney MUST step up their hands off soft on crime policy. Disney can add 20-30 additional security officers to the park. If MGM can have cameras all over their casinos, Disney should have them too. God forbid if some crazy decides to do a terrorist attack inside Disneyland. That would forever ruin the parks for a lot of people. Disney needs to be proactive BEFORE something like that happens. Thanks for doing this video. The problem is that people don't check their mental health or address their self cares before entering environments such as this, and since some people always wanna practice being sovereign citizens in certain environments, you'll have those same people refusing to follow any rules that are opposed to their "free will" and from what I've seen since the unfathomable past events taken place during that of the recent global pandemic; I've drawn a conclusion that there's no safety that can't be breached, and unless everyone acknowledges that there are rules specifically meant to keep everyone safe and in good health, then places like Disneyland will continue to suffer at the hands of unwanted individuals making the same mistakes over and over again due to misconduct and innocent bystanders will be caught in the middle of it. Now Sadly I say this, but this is why I don't regret not going back to some certain public entertainment areas, after everything re-opened post pandemic I was seldom contemplating me returning to the Disney attractions I'm usually fond of, but on my own timing; but now that I've heard of such trouble going around, I'm really conflicted, and there have been days where I've almost felt like it's not worth it.

I'm not saying that more unsafe incidents are occurring because people are intoxicated. But serving alcoholic beverages inside the park certainly isn't helping.

Safety at Disneyland starts with better line control and stopping line cutting. The total disregard for that alone has set a precedent to get away with and behave however you want. I've been personally harassed by guests. Recently I was standing in the shade watching the Dapper Dans when some lady started swinging her bags around to knock me away. Like she didn't want to say anything, so just started being rude and obnoxious to try and make me leave my safe little shaded spot. Whenever I do see security, they're usually old and I don't think they can handle much anyway. Sorry, but it's true. Also, other theme parks have had problems with guests getting way out of control recently and did things like Knott's chaperone policy and other measures. Disney isn't insulated against it.

How is line cutting a safety issue?? 😂 just don't engage with them and you'll be fine. This guy's the creep for filming people without their permission like he's some kind of vigilante. What a loser, mind your own business dude!!

Violence at Disneyland is nothing new. Back in the 70s/80s a kid was stabbed. A character had a knife stuck in the back of his suit which luckily was thick so the point of the knife only scratched his back. And don’t forget the bullet hole in the glass in the ballroom scene on Haunted Mansion (it’s covered with a spider now). I know no place is 100% safe, but I feel safer at Disneyland than most big cities. Just try to always be aware of what’s going on around me.

Okay, first off, This is not the first time there has been social unrest at Disneyland. In 1970, a group called the "Yippies" (Youth International Party - think hippies, but more militant and socially active) put out a call to action to all meet at the park on August 6th and descended, en masse, upon the happiest place on earth. Throughout the day, the young, long-haired, unwashed, unkempt, bearded, shabbily dressed Yippies travailed around the park, harassing guests, making scenes, and being generally belligerent and obnoxious. The pinnacle of their attendance there was the when they took over Tom Sawyer's island and erected a marijuana leaf flag on the top of the fort, and also took over Captain Hook's pirate ship restaurant in Fantasyland. By the end of the day Dick Nunis and The other higher-ups at Disneyland had had enough, and they called in the Anaheim Police department, who showed up in huge numbers wearing riot gear and helmets, and unceremoniously escorted the majority of them out of the park and made tns of arrests out in the parking lot. Public unrest and displays of violence and belligerence, and in general, not Disneyland like behavior has been going on for decades. It's just that now with the internet we're seeing more and more of it. If you know anything about the park's extensive history, or have read any of David Koenig's wonderful "Mouse Tales" books that recount all of the myriad incidents through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and onward, where people were caught on closed-circuit camera, having sex and smoking pot on Adventure Thru Inner Space, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion or on the Skyway (When they thought no one could see them) You'd know this to be true. Fights, also, sadly, have also been a thing that is nothing new to Disneyland since the beginning of the park's opening until now. As far as your comment about feeling for Disney's lawyers that the "criminal always has the upper hand", that's just patently not true. In every case, over the past 50 or 60 years, when anybody has tried to pull a fast one and Sue Disney for some faked trip-and-fall scheme they tried to squeeze some money out of the mouse, or tried to say they were "injured" on a ride, Disney has always sent their team of pitbull lawyers after those people and either completely discredited them in court, or settled out for small amounts so that they would not go to the press.

I know the parks have always been about keeping immersion once you’re inside those gates, but with the world the way it’s going, as well as the negativity towards Disney as a whole that’s popular right now, I think the time has come to start having uniformed officers walk the parks. I’m sure there are “plain-dressed” officers, but the need to SHOW that there is that extra step has become more important than “total immersion”. Speaking of which, not sure what those two gentlemen are at 5:45 (might be paramedics), but that’s the direction I’m talking about. It just feels safer seeing gentlemen like that walking around the parks.

The far too cheap Southern California Magic Key passes are ruining the parks. Locals are using the parks as cheap, weekly entertainment. They are a scary group. They don’t spend money at Disneyland. They bring in their own lunches and dinners. They’re literally everywhere and the parks are suffering for it. The parks are filled to near capacity with these bad types of guests almost everyday of the year now. I never stay at Disneyland after dark. I always leave before the sun sets.

Dress code used to be a thing as well, I understand it's easy to remove clothes after coming through the gates or changing, but nothing is being done any longer.... Ladies are walking around with all of their giblets hanging out(idk Thanksgiving was recent lol) and I have to worry about my young boys and what they will be able to see.... It's disgusting, but Disney doesn't want to piss anyone off or have confrontation much like the rest of the world these days....

It seems that’s the reality everywhere, not just Disney… We were pulling out of our parking spot at a big outlet mall and we saw three people run out of a high end store with unpaid for merchandise. No one was chasing them, no one followed out the door watching where they were heading, nothing..

No big corporation wants to be on the receiving end of a lawsuit because they ordered untrained retail employees to confront or chase thieves and then those retail employees get hurt or killed. Most corporate loss prevention policies actively forbid it for this reason. Besides, it’s not the job of a retail cashier or stock person to catch thieves, it’s the job of the police, to whom that theft will be reported.

Is disneyland safe? Generally speaking yes. The majority of the security and police are focused on perimeter security and downtown Disney. It would be irresponsible to put more assets inside the park where a major occurrence rarely happens. My guess is Security guards in the park are only trained and equipped to handle certain scenarios. When confronted with someone who gets off a ride and strips naked you have to assume they have severe mental illness or are suffering an overdose or both. They probably called Anaheim police and it probably took them 10 minutes or more to respond. Then the police have to come up with a tactical plan and try to deescalate the situation before being forced to take action. All this takes time and from the police perspective there’s no need to rush in. A successful operation is one where nobody gets hurt.

Terrific video. I hate to say it but it's a popular myth that there are cameras everywhere. There ARE cameras, but they are hardly everywhere. And Disney just doesn't have the people to monitor everything.. Nonetheless I always see people whispering in hushed tones, "there are cameras EVERYWHERE" and comforting themselves with that idea. The public puts a lot of trust in Disney. Disney parks are designed to make people feel safe and secure. And it works! And for the most part, people agree to play by the rules. Social rules keep a lot of us in line. Unfortunately, in this era when Disney is reducing staff, maintenance and funding to park operations, and the outside world is changing and becoming more impatient and less tolerant, we're seeing a lot more overlap. Please everybody, try to remain kind and sane.

THANK YOU for this video. We raised our 4 kids in DL and all but one are now adults. We still all go together (with the addition of our DL) at least 2-3 times a year and will be there next week. Just this past year I started questioning if I'm being over protective or paranoid because I insist that no one is roaming around alone even though they are in their 20's, trained in martial arts, and one is an officer in the military. If they leave the group they need to have a buddy. We love going at night and there are just too many nooks and crannies... especially between Fantasyland and Frontierland (even moreso before Galaxy's Edge) among others. I'm more worried about someone being assaulted than actually being taken out of the park. We were having lunch in Toontown in 2019 when that fight broke out right in front of us. It was chaos. Many of us sat trying to get our heads around what was happening. It's never unusual at DL for something loud to happen or yelling as part of an act to get everyones attention but it took a minute to realize WHAT was being yelled and to see adults being thrown to the ground. Then you're trying to wrap your head around..."how can this be real", all while trying to protect your own children. I specifically recall a young mom running with her baby and tripping while trying to get out of the way. I left my own children to run over to grab her baby, help her up, and get her over to our table so she wouldn't get trampled. What took waaaay too long for help to arrive actually seemed like eternity. Thank God there were others that jumped in to help since the first two CM to show up were a young girl and an elderly man... both of which could not intervene. I've always felt uncomfortable with the one way in/out of Toontown. Even with private tunnels, most CM came thru the Toontown entrance to assist. I think because we are on vacation at "The Happiest Place on Earth" and finally get a moment away from work and responsibilities and just get to be a kid again, we let our guard down. Great reminder to always be aware of our surroundings. Just because you are acting appropriately doesn't mean others are.
