I know a lot of work goes into making these videos, but I might have held off a week or so. Tatum's case for MVP has always been a little wobbly. Im from MA, and it always felt a little 'it's his turn' motivated - like, people got so used to asking 'is he the next face of the NBA?', it naturally seemed like if he was, then he needed to be MVP, and a little circular logic thing started happening for fans, commentators, and maybe JT himself. But despite every other aspect of his game improving this year, I dont think someone can win MVP when they dont show up in the big games, and he simply does not. Worse, he also seems to fade into the background the harder the rest of the team plays - especially Brown. When Brown is busting his ass, JT just coasts, and stops playing either end. Id think I was making it up if it hadnt happened a half dozen games this season. All the more damning bc Brown is an extremely efficient scorer - it's not like he's eating up Tatum's touches. I think this team is great, and still an undeniable favorite for the finals, but Tatum's current best bid for MVP is 'it's hard for the Celtics to beat the best teams when he does literally nothing', and that's not much. He plays outside the team, way too often, to be considered the most important member of it.
@nocturne311
@nocturne311 3 ай бұрын
You don’t watch the Celtics enough if you think Tatum plays outside the team. Brown plays outside of the team more than anyone with his isolation fadeaways and that’s not a knock on Brown. Tatum only scoring two points in the 1st quarter against the Warriors because Brown was consistently open from three and then scoring 20 in the 2nd quarter perfectly reflects how much Tatum has started deferring to his teammates while trying to find the right time to assert himself. It just didn’t happen against Denver. However, once JT realized that, he did take on more of a facilitating role and ended up with 8 assists. Yes, he also had five turnovers but all of those happened in the first half if I remember correctly. Even Bill Simmons, who probably watches Boston more than anyone, will tell you that Brown plays outside of the structure of the team way more often than Tatum does. Edit: Tatum is also already a great game 7 performer outside of the ECF last year but that was due to an early injury and he still tried to gut it out. I’m not sure what big games you’re talking about unless you value regular season games more than playoff games or are still hung up on a bad series Tatum had when he was 23.
@Mitch_Feral
@Mitch_Feral 3 ай бұрын
@@nocturne311 I watch every game I am not at work, as I have for decades. You really need to stop assuming that folks who you disagree with are not fans. I think you are mistaking offense for team - Brown is an elite isolation scorer, no question, that's his gift and his job. But he's also an invested team-player, who hustles, and defends, all the time. Tatum struggles to participate when his offense - which is also primarily iso - is waning. He's been much better about it this year, but it's still his biggest issue. And you cant take Bill Simmons seriously on any player darker skinned than a regular cup of coffee, bc he's staggeringly bigoted.

@@DSPIRACY this regular season Tatum had averaged a point more than him a game, and 3 rebounds more. Every other stat was basically even with each of them basically trading being like 0.2 ahead of the other. Tatums also doing this with a team where his starting 5 could all be considered all stars so he has to shoot a lot less while ant has free reign of the ball and is the main scorer for his team. You can really argue Ants better so stop trying.
