I liked the footage from the Insta360 the best, not to mention it had real PTZ-motion and thus that portion was WAY better than on any of other cameras. I don't think I'll ever need an expensive, high-end webcam, but I'll definitely keep that one in mind -- maybe e.g. the husband will eventually need one with good image and proper tracking, since he's been working a lot remotely and often participates in streamed meetings.

One of the biggest issues that I will stay away from the Insta360 (and no one on KZbin has ever mentioned) is the camera pings Chinese Domain 1K Per Day. Also their software has shady privacy agreement that I don't think we should take the risk. This is confirmed by our IT with the same finding from one of their Amazon reviews: "my corporate IT security team which made me immediately cease and desist the use of the Instalink360 webcam because the software sends information to a Chinese owned Domain Name Service (DNS). My network security team flagged the device because it was flooding my companies firewall logs with over 1,000 DNS calls with in a 24 hour period."

@@WereCatf But we should also read their privacy agreement. "should you have a dispute about misuse of your information, you agree to the jurisdiction of a Chinese judicial system and the exclusive venue is in China". And you can't find it when you install the software. It's not a good sign. They also have a security leak in August 2022. You could find it with a quick google search. Yes, it's an amazing device if the software/privacy is not a concern.

So good that webcams are finally reaching a level where their quality is becoming more and more acceptable. The Facecam Pro is actually impressive, but man does quality come at a premium with these nowadays. The secondhand Sony A5000 with quick software "hack" for clean HDMI out, a $100 Sony 16mm F2.8 lens, a cheap capture card, and a dummy battery is a hard deal to beat by comparison (especially since its possible to get that combo all for under what some of these webcams cost). I'd say for streamers looking for an upgraded face cam, the a5000 combo is the way to go. But like you said, people needing the webcam simplicity, something more portable, stuff like that...its good to see the options for that are giving better results than they ever have. Great vid!

I think I like the look of the insta360 one best, but the footage from the Elgato may have just been a bit too bright. The 360 looked like it had "better" colors. Still, as cool as they are I can't justify 300 on a camera nowadays haha. I'd just plug my a6500 back in for a bit if I needed video for a little bit.

Great video, thanks for sharing this info! It is excellent to see the state of new webcams. I have an iPhone 14 and Samsung Galaxy S22 and I have been using them as webcams, I can use them wired or WiFi with various apps. And they both serve as multipurpose devices.

I heard that you could use the auto focus on the Elgato to save multiple preset focus distances and switch between them on the stream deck. If that’s true, that seems like a good feature for someone who may not need auto focus on all the time, but may still need an up close focus when they show off something or a long distance focus in case they move away from their normal positions for like pushups for channel point redemptions or something. Plus you can preset the zoom on the Elgato without losing the image quality, which could be used in a similar manner. Seems like a good option especially if you are entering in or apart of the Elgato ecosystem.

Of the cameras shown, only the Insta360 Link hits the bar I'm looking for in a webcam and would be worth the price tag. The Elgato Facecam still has some weird softening that I don't like (it's especially obvious around your hair). The others aren't even worth mentioning if you're going for high quality. There are several flavors of the Huddlecam 4k ptz. Quite often they’ll go on sale. I got several of the NDI cameras for under $200, although, at $249-$279, they’re still a good buy. They have full onscreen camera controls that you’d find on a top-of-the-line Sony or Canon camera. Also eptz, with a remote and presets. One remote can also run several cameras. It is 4k 30fps, also with downsampling available. I don’t mind the 30fps limitation. It’s plug and play. Also, mine feature both USB/ HDMI connections, so hooking up to an ATEM mini, etc. works great.
@ViciousXUSMC2 жыл бұрын
So got the Nexigo Iris today, on sale for $215. My first impressions were.... It's still a webcam lol. With enough light it does pretty well, but that larger sensor did not make as much a difference as I had hoped it would, and even at ISO 100 there is a TON of noise without Noise Reduction and that just does not make sense to me as no camera I have ever had created so much noise at that low of an ISO. I could see absolutely no quality difference in 4K vs 1080, assuming its super sampling 1080 from 4K. It still makes a great B-Roll, Second Angle, etc camera. For this purpose I think I would prefer any of the top 3 webcams over getting another DSLR and Capture Card. However I am quite torn if I want to keep it or not. The Link looks great, and has some neat features, the remote on the Iris is nice for control, and the Elgato of course has all the Elgato integration and nice hub software. Personally I do not care for 60fps, so that is not an advantage for me. I also think the review mentioned one thing that might really suck for many people, no Microphone on the Elgato. So I am stuck sending this back and maybe getting the Link, as even with the smaller sensor it seems to do really well, the size is an advantage, and also nice it has an F1.8 aperture. Elgato seems to be getting all the craze, reviews, and coverage, but as a technical person it honestly seems like the worst of the top 3. I personally would be very happy if you did a more in depth review of these 3. The software, the control, minimum focus distance, noise at each ISO level without noise reduction, etc.
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I understand the value in turning off the NR, especially the 3D NR - when every “real camera” you use is running some degree of noise reduction from the sensor before you get the video, too. Seems like an unfair comparison.
@ViciousXUSMC2 жыл бұрын
@@EposVox Very well possible, I should say with a DSLR or P&S I turn it off and it doesn't do that. Maybe still adding it on its own behind the scenes. I was not saying there is value in turning it off, except well the lower the NR the better the original detail is present. I was just blown away with how "bad" it looked at first glance compared to my old M50 with a smaller sensor and only 1080P. In the years and years of looking at new cameras, the noise is usually a big comparison point, I suppose the only fair way to compare the sensor and it's noise is to turn off any NR to see if there is inherently a difference. Else it could just be masked by over the top NR and hurting other details. With 4K and the bigger sensor, it still had that "webcam" look, just could not find the right look, and sharpness and clarity I was hoping to see. But this is using it as a FaceCam, I moved it over to some non human items like if I was doing a product review, and it did great for that scenario. I guess my personal dilemma now is keep the Iris as its the cheapest, or send it back to get the Link or Elgato camera to see if they are worth the extra in some way. Most likely I'll keep the Iris for now, and keep an eye out for the Link on Black Friday. Since by comparison its the most different while the Iris and Elgato I think are more direct head 2 head. If you personally have any reason to say Elgato > Nexigo Iris that would be good to hear. I do have the majority of the Elgato ecosystem with the Stream Deck and everything already, but for a camera I cant think where any additional integration would really be of benefit.

Using the M50 and Capture and so happy with that quality and flexibility, but when you want alternative angles in a shot, this makes sense as long as the quality is good enough. I think the ability to change optics on the SLR is the big advantage, but 3 cables instead of one just for one camera... and of course now when I need to do photos I don't want to disconnect my camera to use it.

I absolutely love it, and I have access to the “professional” video conferencing gear…which is collecting dust in my closet.

The Insta360 Link has literally replaced 3 cameras in my setup: It's even made streaming huge board games like Gloomhaven easier, with its 6 saved positions and the AR stickers to put it virtually over key information that's several feet off-angle. The only disappointment is that it's not a panacea for VR streaming: It doesn't track a face in a headset (surprisingly Broadcast does) and due to the small size you can't put a Vive puck or other tracker on it for Mixed Reality. Which is a shame; a fully autonomous gimballed mixed reality camera would make Holodeck streams a one-button affair.
@ViciousXUSMC2 жыл бұрын
Interesting concept, I love playing games with my GF and would love to get some group games together. Short of grouping like 2 cameras together or more the idea of just one sounds neat. (I also have the Insta360 X2 so could use that in center and film 360 and edit in post) So you just snap the AR anchors onto your game area and keep that in focus, and set a few other focus points to each player and short of shift between them live as your play? How are you controlling that while playing, or do you have a dedicated camera person? Also while on the subject, what are you using for audio capture? For 2 persons I could LAV each person, for group I think I would try a shotgun overhead mic first, and I also have a Ambisonic Microphone that would be great hanging down off a C Stand.
@scotchbox2 жыл бұрын
@@ViciousXUSMC The Insta360 Link actually has a few tricks up its sleeves, including a simple Look Down mode as well as a mode that only looks down 45 degrees, but distorts the image to look like it's from your point of view. So each of our 6 positions could be any number of these funky modes, whichever seems best for that moment and location. I'll try linking to an example, but I don't know how KZbin will feel about that... As for the audio, we actually started using the mics built into the webcam. Surprisingly, it's pretty okay! It's in the ballpark of an overhead Yeti, and all my other mics are either too sensitive (Neumann) or too tight (SM7B). Not studio quality, but in a well treated room you'd get away with it. We have considered LAVing everyone, but at a certain point that's more time spent tech-ing than hanging out and playing games. Edit: As for control, I'm using a Stream Deck. There is no official integration, so the stream deck just clicks at specific screen coordinates. As long as the insta360 bar is in the right place, I can switch between the 6 locations and a few effects like head tracking.

@@scotchbox Ok pretty cool, I have a Stream Deck and Pedal as well, I also might find a way to build my own GUI that I can run or use touch portal so I can keep that stuff connected to my main PC. The nice thing about Ambisonic is depending how much work I want to put in post I can change the audio direction anywhere in a 360 spectrum, if I record with a 360 camera I can match all of that so people can look around in 360 VR and the sound moves with them. The tricky part is when you want "headlock" audio or to fold in 2D video along side VR video. I have several Condenser microphones that I don't use because what you said too sensitive, really needs to be in a recording environment, I use the SM7B as my main VO microphone because it rejects all the noise in my office. Cool you further identified the point that they clearly have some USB Chipset incompatibilities in their driver to work out. Which will affect a lot of people. Already had other commenters saying they had the same issue. And I was working from the Amazon price which was $264

@@EposVox ah the third party seller explains the huge price difference. It's $199 direct from Dell's website (actually 10% off there now = $189). Big difference from what you inferred as to the price from your video! Thanks for the reply.

Yeah that’s a massive difference. Wish Amazon wouldn’t allow for that :/

@@EposVox Well you know those weird third party sellers aka resellers that sell everything for 80-100+ extra dollars and rip people off. That's why I always look at MSRP and the seller's actual sites or Amazon fulfilled by Amazon to ensure pricing. Heck, there's one selling *USED* Dell 4k Ultrasharps for $20 less than new ones at Dell. Feh. Lesson learned everyone!

I would just buy go pro lol if not want too spend thousands on mirrorless. Of course thriygh usb c it is only 1080p but I mean its downscaled from 5.3. Go pro is probably easiest to setup as you can adjust almost everything on it. Love how it is nit far from my sony a7siii settings and i really loved preset system on it

The Facecam Pro can't take over the market if it hasn't been available since it launched.
