100% facts James! My definition of a “Scalper” is a person who buys highly desirable products in large quantities with the sole purpose of flipping them for profit. It’s funny how the average person has his/her definition of what a scalper is. Especially those who think that it’s okay to sell highly desirable products to support their hobby. You should hear what so called “collectors” in my area think what a “true” scalper is. It just blows my freaking mind man! 😆😂🤣

I couldn’t have said it any better myself. Dead on with all points! I buy what I like regardless of its value or potential value. I consider myself a “nostalgic” Hot Wheels collector. I’ve been collecting all my life. I love the brand and I have an extensive collection. I don’t buy as much as I used to, but only because I don’t like most of what they put out nowadays. lol! I don’t collect supers or even chase pieces for that matter. I never even knew what a super was until I started watching KZbin videos a few years ago…. 😂😂

Just like on Jasons vid, this is pure gold James! Another point of view that makes so much sense. The bottom line is if HotWheels hunters/collectors want scalping and reselling to calm down and go away, they need to learn patience and stop supporting those who are in the hobby for the money. You hit a major point with the hypocrisy as well. You cant complain if you're part of the problem. 💯 Im with you James and I think so many are onboard as well, premium diecast models are the way to go. Im so happy Im not affected or frustrated about the HWs hunting aspect anymore. Huge weight lifted and I enjoy the hobby more than I ever have in the past 7 years. Great vid, James! 👊😁👍

Some these collectors act like dope fiends. I collect what I like, and if I can’t find a casting then it wasn’t meant to be in my collection. I’ll pay a late tax on certain castings, but I’m talking like maybe an extra $5 or $10. I buy these cars because I think they are cool and I want them. When I die and they become my kids problem if he decides to sell them so be it, but that is not the sole purpose of me buying any diecast. I kinda quit paying extra money for cars when I went to the flea market and a guy that I would buy a dollar Hot Wheels car from for two bucks. He had the one set of red editions that I wanted and he wanted 35 bucks for it. At that point in time if I had to pay extra especially that much for cars that I wanted, I can just do what's out. I do send people things from time to time, but you know how it is trying to find something at the stores. I do thank you again. And I am very grateful you set me those yellow Porsche's because if it was not for you, I would not have them. Which I am still trying to find that something to send you, I just haven't found that something that had your name written on it yet. Anywho I guess I am part scalper Because if there is a car that I really want, there's 3 of them hanging there I'm taking all 3. The other part of me is hoarder, because I don't think I can sell anything lol. That guy that I was telling you about at the flea market that wanted 35 bucks for that set of red editions. What you said at (26:41) is what I have been saying. If you know what guy is a scalper and you don't buy from him he won't make any money and he will stop buying them then the price will go down. I don't understand why you are willing to pay more money for a car if you can get it cheaper. Mike Zarnock on his channel has a video are they worth more in the package or out of the package and said there was a kid who had a car for $5,00 and had no problem asking him why are you asking $5,00 for the car because it's old. Mike said just because it is old does not mean it is worth $5,00 when I see the same car below for a $1,00) At (13:15) I think is wrong to make money and profit off of the store Walmart. They are supposed to be put them on the pegs and the shelves. These employees should be fired for taking the Hot Wheels home or for saving them for other people and getting money for them. You are stealing from Walmart. The reason they won't order more is because the scanner thinks they still have Inventory if the employee does not pay for it. I don't want to go to the checkout and pay more money after playing the employee $20,00 Someone should be reporting this to the owners of Walmart. They should see they are losing Inventory. It is like going into a bar and someone over pouring drinks and you don't catch it. If you fire these employees they will stop doing it. They keep doing it because they are not held accountable. It is just like the theft you see on TV on the news when people are not held accountable for retail theft. It is like when the guys do donuts in an intersection. If you hold them accountable all this goes away and they say oh, I better not do that or I will go to jail or I will lose my job and be fired. There is a guy the lives in Fresno CA and he knows the manager and he tells him when the Hot Wheels comes in and he takes it all. He has gotten to know guys in chatrooms and forums that can't get Hot Wheels that live in countries like Spain Italy Russia Moscow France etc. and sells a Hot Wheels car for $3,000.000 is what my friend told me and this guy is making bank and he lives on a hill in a big house. I have called the corporate office and tell them and they let the store location know but some store managers do something about it and some will lie that they don't know about it when they do and have gotten fired for allowing this to happen because they were in on it. Most don't know about what is going on because they are new and they change managers that are there for only so long. I never get the Super Treasure Hunts. I may have 3. I found and paid more for them. I go to a Swap Meet and they have a lot of Hot Wheels and one guy said he is not getting any of the Team Transport because they want too much for them. Another guy there wants too much for his stuff and he won't go down in price. He wants $30,00 for the M2 Machines VW Bug and Hauler and $10,00 for the M2 Machines VW Bus and Cars and Trucks. $30,00 for the Hot Wheels Team Transport and $50,00 plus for the RLC cars and trucks. Another guy has high prices on his stuff. If you don't buy it they won't sell it at that price and sell it for what is is priced in the store. One guy at a Swap Meet was selling his collection because he could not afford to buy them because they are asking too much money for them. You have to remember it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for something. Thank You for sharing this video. It came up on my ROKU on KZbin so I thought I would leave a comment on what is going on. I like Hot Wheels Team Transport. I used to be able to get them and M2 Machines but now I can't get any. A guy I buy from at a Car Show that sells them goes to my Walmart location and he just wanted to look at the A Case and this woman said in a rude tone WE CAN'T PUT THEM OUT RIGHT NOW. Then a few minutes later they were moving them over to the gardening section. You have to check the other parts of the store. They don't want to put them out because they are saving them for other people. This was originally for kids and now they don't get any. Their parents won't pay that for a car in this economy. Employees are no longer following the store policies. One time this woman gave him a smirk look because she gave the Hot Wheels to this guy who paid her $10,00 for them. She said they didn't have any in yet and he knew she gave them to him. He was a Scalper who got them. They are taking all the good Diecast and I never get any. I know have to pay more for stuff.
@harmonica21227 күн бұрын
I agree with you. We need to stop buying from scalpers and people that charge more for Team Transports that are $20 plus dollars and Car Culture etc. And when no one buys them at that price the scalper will stop buying them or if they do still decide to sell them they will sell them what it cost to buy them at Walmart. I don't understand why someone wants to pay more for something when you can get it cheaper. All the time on eBay I will see the same Team Transport/Car etc. for cheaper but people end up spending more money when the same Car below is less money. It it only worth what someone is willing to pay for something.

@@hewittzhotwheelz I hope you can make it work for the group, if we can effect change by doing this, and if others follow suit, we may have a chance at changing the prices paid for diecast, to make it more available. 3rd party sellers do offer a service to collectors, who may never find that special car they are after, its just a matter of if that price is "fair", given the travelling involved etc, there is only a limited amount of STH, so not everybody can own one, you may look your whole life and never find a car, but if you have diecast buddies, your odds go up in a big way, as not everybody collects the same thing, and thats where trading comes in, that way no money changes hands either. If we all could agree on fixed prices and stick to them, and if there is a special car, ask the group first, before they pay as silly price, then we can effect change.

Also everyone can be considered a scalper/reseller everyone is going to look up a value and ask that price I am guilty of it for time to time when I find chases I don't collect but buy them to reinvest into my collection. Then when you start to down size your collection you will alway check the value and sometimes people have to sell cars to pay bills cause life happens. Great idea to dive more into the “why” aspect of all of this nonsense James I think it brought to light alot of good points and facts. I honestly think everyone has been at least alittle bit guilty of overpaying for something no matter if it was 1$ or 50$ more. You also have to take into consideration the amount of time and gas the person doing this stuff is using and wasting as well. I will say that is what ultimately got me to join RLC was the exclusiveness of it and the “rare” factor of it but now those days are long gone unfortunately. All in all really enjoyed this video and hopefully some people got some questions answered from it 😎👍🏻👊🏻

Everytime I see a video of a diecast show on u tube there alway this one guy that will have 8 to 10 of the same castings for sale at a high price. Why buy a car just because someone else says its special, its only special if you like it. A real collector does not care what a car is worth, just that they have a chance of getting what they like, and we all have a chance to get cars we like, so there is no real problem, its just some collectors are jealous of what others have, thats the real problem. I just bought the Johnny Lightning SR5 Toyota Hilux Pickup in white, with an opening hood and tailgate. Its not really out here in the UK anywhere yet, and the shipping from the USA is usually too expensive. I paid about double the cost price, just because I liked it so much, its exactly what I would have made myself, but the big manufacturers make such an awesome job these days, its worth paying a little more, for a car you really want. Sure I could have waited for modelmatic in York to get some in, but Jon has a limited number he buys in, so you take the risk of missing out completely. Its about what the car is worth to you, and if you could make one yourself. Anybody can make a Super car, given they have very basic skills, it possible to make any kind of decals you want, but that takes time and effort. Things can also go wrong making cars yourself, as anyone knows who has tried to do it, a wheel swap for a super is childs play, just buy the basic and upgrade it with better wheels. Its not like the supers have a metal base anymore, so I just dont see the mass appeal. I dont want to get a car, because someone else days its super, the Toyota Hilux I just bought, is the best I have ever seen, but its a fraction of what the HW version goes for, and in my opinion, its nowhere near as good. Trading is the only fair way of getting and giving away cars, with like minded people. I have never found a STH yet, but I did find a ID batmobile once, which is pretty close, and I also found the premium chase black porsche recently, but I just told the store clerk about it, so he could pass it on to someone who deserved it, I just bought the plain orange version, because I liked it more. Anyone who will pay £100 or $100 for a 1:64 car, has money to burn, in my opinion, there is the occasional once in a lifetime casting that comes out, like the RLC Tradesman van, I went all out to get one of those for £60, which is way too much, but with shipping and the membership, thats not far of what RLC charged for it. In my opinion its the best 1:64 van ever made, so I got one. It has gone up in value like the RLC skyline I have, but would I sell it to make a profit?, no! because I like the car and I would never be able to afford another. My dicast helps me get through the bad days, when the pain and the migraines, get the better of me, so I dont regret any of the money I have spent on diecast, as I would not be here, if they had not given me the drive, to see what gets made, and also appreciate what I have too. Everyone should have a max price they will pay for a car, and that would be the way to go in my opinion. Have a poll on what the different cars should cost as a benchmark, and if we all stick to those prices, its the only way to effect the market price, with numbers of people who agree not to buy for too much. If a scalper cant sell their cars for the inflated price, they will have to reduce it, to get their investment back at least. I love to pickup bargains from scalpers, who have bought too much stock, and have to sell at a loss, thats the way to go, but people power works, your platform to reach so many people could make a difference, but its a pipe dream, as most people want to sell their car for more than they bought it for, they have had pleasure from it, so second hand, it should be half the price in my opinion, as a real collector, wants the car to out live them, and go on to give others pleasure. I have gone on a bit there, just like you, but maybe you can use my idea, about making a benchmark price for cars within our group. Scalping is just the "Emperors new suit of clothes" if you have ever hears that fairytale, about the invisible suit of clothing, but STH, TH and chase cars are exactly that, its a great marketing ploy. Mattel are laughing all the way to the bank, the more people scalp and drive up the price, the more they can charge for RLC and special cars, that just have special decals. They make very little money on a mainline car, but they make a killing on everything else they make. They stoked the fire with RLC, and they just heap more coke on the fire!

@colinsdiecast164customs Well said my friend. I for one don't care for chase cars usually. They are usually ugly, or just plain, have ugly colored wheels. Something. I prefer the regular version most of the time. I agree, it's a marketing ploy that people fall for. 👍✌️😊

Well another problem not alot is saíd why limit the production of these castings there is so many collectors and we all want 2 or three castings but ya can't find 1 .I cannot tolerate greed so wait because down the track a few months later you will find what you want for a better price,I put my own Realriders on and I have the same car for a fraction of what greedy collectors sell for haha😂love your channel Hewitts❤ ❤❤

I agree with what you say if you sell it yea you scalp unless you give deals every time and sell them for 1$ then your awesome but no one does that, its about making money to them, ill buy it because i cant find it and it hits my pockets

@redeye247hotwheels selling for a low reasonable upcharge is ok but it gets way out of hand.

Its different with convention cars, as they cost so much to begin with, because they are limited runs , plus there is the cost to travelling to the even to consider. I can understand a collector charging a 20% markup on the car, to get some of their money back for their trip. If people did not get extra cars, where would the people be, who could not attend the convention?

Yeah, those bloody SCALPERS 😅 'N' PALLET RAIDERS 😂. I can remember beating a professional scalper one day back in 2000. I was chasing just one old school THunt, a '67 Dodge Charger. I ended up with 3 from 3 boxes😁. He was foaming at the mouth when he turned up while i was there😂. The fortnight before, he had 5 unopened boxes, i asked him if i could look through 1 box, and he told me to F off these are mine, but i watched him get 1 from 5 boxes. Fark i love Karma😅, and I still have two and gave my mate who got me into the terrible hobby😂. Peace everyone ✌️👍🦘🇦🇺🦘. Don't forget to vote, Trump🇺🇸😁

I have come to terms that if you collect something, there will be scalpers selling it at over inflated prices. But I do not buy on the second hand market, as not to promote scalpers!

I don't buy basics from the high priced scalper. If I miss out on a car, I'll wait for the flea market and pay $2-$3 instead.

If you die and you can't take nothing with you then being a collector is an idiot thought process. Really think about a grown ass man hoarding toys that belong to children and then bitching about the prices and the availability.😂
@hewittzhotwheelz28 күн бұрын
@jaymiddlebrook5049 i get it, but if we looked at it like you can't take anything with you then why get anything at all? Just live day to day on the food you need. Now that would be an idiot process. ✌️😊

Collector not a scalper: I think that you're mostly right however, in order for that business model to be sustainably profitable you would have to find 1 to 2 STHs per day for the rest of your life and you're really not making much money per super in order to be a sustainable profitable business. And let's be realistic you're not going to find 1 super per day much less 2 in order to create a profit-making business flipping Supers. Also the people who list them for outrageous prices 99% of the time, those cars just sit on eBay. No one buys them they'll sit there for months sometimes even a year with no action..just sayin 🫤
