💎 I don't think anyone would call me a 'typical' diamond painter, but as I have been sorting through all my diamond painting supplies, I've had to really think about what things I use and what things I don't and why. After considering how I actually diamond paint (not how I think I diamond paint), I've got a much better idea on what to keep and what to toss. What about you? Do you do any of these things? 💎

For me, multi-placers just don't work. I've tried using them but each time the drills end up wonky and I spend more time trying to straighten them. I too am not a specific brand kind of person. While I do love DAC, I also have kits from Paint With Diamonds where I can choose the size of the canvas and drill type. I like how that company lets you do that.

Enjoyed the rambling. I section a row with release papers and hold up the cover sheet with coverminders while I work. Then when done I drop the cover sheet back down over the whole to keep it clean. I don’t coordinate my diamond pens, just grab a large and a small to use. I don’t have any expensive pens, just Amazon ones. I do use a light pad and an adjustable arm light when painting. I like a lot of light. I do work on the canvas and turn it after reaching half way. Sometimes I have to roll it to do that. I think after you diamond paint for a while you tend to always use the way you’ve been most comfortable. I will try something new, but I won’t put a lot of money into accessories. I do always put my drills in containers. I’m a klutz and I always have a problem if I don’t. So glad to get others input on their methodology. I can always learn. Peace and love abide with you 💕

My 5: 1: I don’t have more than 12 diamond paintings in my stash at one time. 2: I don’t collect fancy pens. 3: I don’t just store my finished dps. I hang them around my house. And rotate them. So some get store for a bit, until it’s their season. 4: I don’t buy fancy trays. I have a few from Add More Zest. And that is all I need. 5: I don’t limit myself to one kind of stuff in my pen. I use glue dots, putty, and pink and blue wax. Depending on the situation. I do use a drafting table. I have neck arthritis and I would have to give up the hobby otherwise. I do watch KZbin while I am painting. Unless curling is on. 🥌 5:

I haven't diamond painted for too long (I'm on my 6th painting, started back in August), but I like to mentally set a "frame" and challenge myself to not overshoot it. Weirdly, that's fun to me. Like you, I don't use the wax anymore, because it got everywhere and... I hate the feeling of poking into it with the pen. I still do use the pink pens, but because of that tiny hole in the tip, I got a low strength suction-pump that I attach to the back of the pen and that's how I pick up my drills. I also grabbed a "finger cushion" for the pen. No clue what they are actually called, but they feel better. I'm still at the point where I get cheap paintings because I tend to swap hobbies a lot, but if I stick to it for a year, I will get higher quality ones. My mother got herself a pen with a light in the tip, so she can read the letters and symbols better (she has poor eyesight, but loves D.P.). For bigger projects or hers, I will "kit up", otherwise, I grab a few zippy bags, put them in there and tape the numbers and symbols on there. We sometimes sit for hours just painting and forgetting the time xD Thank you for your video, it helps, because I don't know all the gadgets we can have. Greetings from Germany C:

Interesting topic! I’ve got one that won’t be popular. I don’t use wasshi tape. I don’t generally section and I don’t edge the way others do. I cover the borders with small plastic rulers or old plastic gift cards. I started this with square drills which are my favorite. I found if I don’t use a slight plastic edge on the border, I can’t get a straight line. Once a few rows (like 3-4) are established straight, the rest will be also straight with minimum adjustments. Didn’t need it on round drills much, but I now do it on every kit. Once the straight line is in place, I’ll move the plastic cards/rulers up along the outer edge I haven’t worked yet. Also, I’m with you about not using a light pad. I prefer a couple of small overhead light sources attached to my work surface with flexible necks which I move as I need to get around shadows. Working on a my first square drill kit with my (non-dominant) left hand. It was even harder to line up than my first right handed square drill kit. If it hadn’t been for the plastic rulers and old gift cards, I’d have given up. I did use Washi tape once after I finished a kit to cover the sticky border and I may do that again…but only after they’re done!

For me as a heavy placer, its harder to get that satisfying popping sound but I found out if I place the drills lighter , the popping sounds are more pronounced. I really enjoyed this! I'm right there with you on just about everything. Kitting up small projects is definitely a waste of time for me--I want to start drilling! I love washi tape, but I use it for the glued edges, not sectioning; and I love the way it looks when other DPers do it. 4-6 is my sweet spot as well. And while I have light pads in two sizes, I haven't been using them lately. Additionally, I don't store my canvases and drills separately; I keep kits in original packaging until I'm ready to move them into rotation. I don't seal things that are just going into a portfolio. You've got me thinking... 😆

“Drill chasing” 😂 That is soooo me! It’s like you’re in my brain with all of these topics. Of course, except I am blind without a light pad. Great video! Unlike some other DP's I have no "schedule" or set goals per yr, etc. The only time I "rush" is when I'm making one as a gift for a b'day or Christmas present. I try not to put too much pressure on myself for any reason or I dont relax & enjoy it as much. I also do not have any type of "system" for my leftover drills...they go into a big plastic container (with rounds & squares separate) for now, but I keep them w/intentions to use them on wooden boxes & other projects. My eyes are much better since I stopped using my lightpad recently...whew!

After a year and a half of diamond painting I'll see if I can do two major kits at the same time. I also started using glue dots last year after being extremely frustrated with wax. I can’t go back. The only time I might use some wax or putty in my single placer is to place abs. We are so similar. I too am very heavy handed. I don’t use pink wax at all because it didn’t last for me. Glue dots and quakehold for the multiplacing end are my favorite. I quit using release papers because I like to post on IG and the papers covered too much for a good picture. I dont use washi though. I’m a planner chick and I need my washi for pretty planning. I switched to whiteboard tape. Wonderful tip I learned from Summer’s Sparkling Good time. Haven’t looked back at my release papers ever since. The whiteboard tape sticks better than washi too. I am weird or “atypical” in that I never use the stickers. I copy them onto my favorite sticker paper because I hate how dac labels never stay and other labels never come off. Besides I like to keep the original sticker page in my log book. As for multiplacers I love those big ones for big colorblocking. Dac’s 12 placer is wonderful. My most comfortable placer size is 9. I bought a bunch in that size from sleepy cat store on Ali and they are on most of my pens now. They are stainless steel without the plating that thickens them up. The other day I switched to a pen with those old 9 placers after having used the dac 12 for weeks. Boy did it feel good to be back to my trusty 9 placer! I place more accurately because I am so used to that one. Let’s see what else do I do atypically….I don’t use storage anymore. Just trays in towers. I am obsessed with record keeping. My GemsFlow app is used to the max. Time keeping, tracking numbers, planning ahead….I love it! I am amazed that you dont use a light pad. If it wasn’t for the backlighting I don’t think I could diamond paint as much as I do. The eye fatigue would really limit my time. I diamond paint on drafting tables but they aren’t steep. One click up is all I need to relieve neck strain. Oh! That’s atypical …I have 2 drafting tables plus a desk top easel I use when I have to really supervise my son during school. I set up the table top one next to him. My oldest laughs at me when I do that because he says I have so many diamond painting setups around the house. As for working on multiple wips I have no problem with it. However I hardly ever carry them over month to month. I start each month with a plan 4 big and 4 small projects is my typical month. I start them all at the beginning of the month and cycle between them until they are done. This is how I get to participate in so many events. Of course this means I am diamond painting 6 hour plus every day. On weekends I really go to town and can put in 10-12 in a day if I don’t have plans. I think thats atypical for sure.

I don’t multiplace. I’ve practiced to see if I could get comfortable with using multi-placers but I just don’t like it. It takes me longer to line up & load the multi-placer with drills in my tray, then more time as I fiddle with getting them in the exact spot on the canvas. Idk if my poor eyesight complicates the process or bc I’m uncoordinated-bc I have both. I enjoy the slower pace of single placing. I can relax & enjoy the process.

I'm still new to diamond painting, so I'm still figuring out my system. I don't like the light pad. After trying it, I was confused as to how that was easier. The way it lights things makes me anxious. I use overhead lights and a desk lamp and feel I can see just fine. I am currently working on a card table set up directly behind my painting desk. I just swivel my chair and then work on the DP. I was working on a canvas and didn't finish it before your pet event started, and I have now realized I'm not a fan of an unfinished project sitting there. Right now, I'm using parchment paper. I like that I can't see the whole painting as it feels overwhelming. I just fold the parchment before I put it on into sections and then cut it on the fold lines as I do my sections. I currently have 2 pens out, one with a single and a 4 placer and the other with a 2 and 3 placer. I can't seem to use a larger multiplacer to set fewer diamonds yet. I'm going to switch to the glue dots as I seem to be a heavy placer. The red wax getting on the canvas is driving me crazy. I've switched to putty for my multiplacer and like it a lot. I'm interested to see what my process is in a year. I'd like to see a tutorial on making your own cover sheets.

I do small projects that same way you do. I don’t section my paintings at all, I just roll the cover sheet back as I go. I don’t even own any washi tape. I don’t keep a log book of any kind. Most of what I do is gifts, so I’ve never seen any reason to keep track. I only use a 6 placer and just change the amount of drills on the placer. I also don’t roll my canvas, I do like you and turn it all around. I only have one large painting going at a time, but I work on small projects when I want a break from the big one, so I guess I only have one WIP at a time, but I do work on other things. One thing I think is different from most people is I only have 1 pen. I bought one I like and that’s it.

My thing where I seem different is that I mount my diamond paintings to wooden boards for display before I work on them. I like having the solid structure behind the canvas already and I didn't like the idea of putting a lot of pressure on the drills to mount it after it is completed. So I have a stack of them mounted to display boards ready to be worked on when I want to start a new one. I also only work on one at a time. I keep the drills separated for each image I have mounted until I work on it. But after that the extras are all stored in little baggies with the DMC color number and what symbol it was on which picture. That way if a drill falls off in the future I can match it for repairs. 😊

I don't use a light pad, I only use glue dots, I do not multi place at all, I work on an easel, I don't section with washi tape but use precut parchment squares that are 3X3 inches, although I have several really lovely trays and a couple of better pens, I end up using the large white standard tray with the spout and a pen that I paid about $7 for, even though I own a couple of expensive pens. The only storage I have kept after trying so many others are my E. Wards and I have 8 of them, and that is why I limit my stash to 8 canvases. As I complete kits, then I allow myself to order some new ones. Diamond painting has been so wonderful for helping me deal with my pain and I am so grateful I stumbled upon it. I've been diamond painting for years. Got away from it for awhile then started back up. I work on one diamond painting at a time but will pull out a small one and work it for a change of pace. I've completed one HAED painting and have 2 more to do. My small projects I work out of the bags. When finished all the drills go in one baggy. Larger paintings I might separate at the time then merge into other bags of like color. I used to spend hours just sorting by # and storing them. Threw most of those out when I had to move. I hang my paintings when I get them usually so they are flatter when I work on them. Love DAC canvases but don't buy a lot of them cause I have no place to put them. I like my specialty pens and I use pink wax but am going to try the dots. Diamond painting is just one of my hobbies so I rotate through them depending on mood and weather.

I recently started to make friends with the Ceramic cutter😂 I hated it when I first got it because I used the clear cover sheet on that painting and I could not for the life of me cut the clear cover in a good way. This time around with my current kit there is something wrong with my canvas so the clear plastic cover was actually sticking to the glue and pulling up the glue from the canvas and making it less sticky so in an effort to save it I took the clear cover off and replaced it with non stick oven paper and that is much more enjoyable to cut with the Ceramic pen👌 We'll see if I keep using the oven sheets going forward on my future projects or if I keep the plastic cover on. I like seeing my project as a whole through the plastic, but maybe I like the non stick oven paper better🤷🏻‍♀️

I purchased a light pad before I ever received my first diamond painting Christmas 2021. I have two easels with light pads on both. One easel is the largest one they carry at Hobby Lobby. It is for the very large canvases like DAC Old Shoe House or Maui Princess Hannah Lynn by Oraloa. I'm not a fan of the grand scale DPS. These are both about 50% complete waiting on me to feel motivated to tackle them again. I have several WIPs going at once. I have a ten placer that rarely gets used. I don't think I have ever seen a 12 or 15 placer. I actually prefer the basic pens. I'll do a bulk loading session and have several on hand to keep going on my pieces. On average, I touch four canvases a day. I might finish four to six canvasses a month. A 50 x 50 is my typical size. It's cumbersome at times, but after an hour or two, I am tired of one painting.

I use a light pad because my vision is so horrific that I find it necessary. Even with a bright overhead light, and my glasses, I tend to need more. I do agree with you that it changes the color of the symbol/drill and makes everything look like a photo negative until the pad is turned off. I also find that the light pad tends to make the diamonds look like they're mishapen/gaping, though that could be related to my vision issues. I like to work flat, too, but will be moving to an easel due to chronic shoulder bursitis; I didn't get it from diamond painting. It also won't heal because I am constantly leaning over the table to work. If I didn't have it, I'd definitely stay working flat as I find it more comfortable. I don't coordinate pens/trays/washi/minders/etc... Mostly, because I can't afford to. I have a decent pen, 1 decent tray and I feel that's all I need for now.

@@aud_pegooey 😂 That’s because tweezers and I don’t get along! I just end with drills everywhere but on my canvas!

That's totally fair! I actually kinda like checkerboarding with them. It's not really that it's a preferred method, but I'll do it just to vary things up if they get boring 😊

Hi Daphne, good evening from Southern California. 1. I don't talk. If I talk, I will make many mistakes. 2. Pink Wax, stopped using quite quickly. I hate pink. 3. I don't Diamond paint listening to music. Why? I will get up and start dancing. 4. I don't use release paper to divide the canvas up. I use Washi tape on the bottom half at first. Plus, I have my Elizabeth Ward storage cover up the canvas, plus large release paper. 5. I don't rush my Diamond Paintings. Two reasons 1. My ADHD brain doesn't like me rushing. 2. My lumbar area of my back doesn't like me rushing. Please I use a light pad. There is no strong lights in my house. So being nearsighted and farsighted I need all the light I can get.

I'm sorry if this sounds naive I have never done a diamond painting. I ordered my supplies and kits. How do you use the glue dots on the rhinestones?
@DiamondPaintingAnonymous
@DiamondPaintingAnonymous 5 ай бұрын
@@SharitCreations I put the glue dots inside my single placer tip (instead of using the pink wax). The glue dots work on crystal/rhinestone drills. Thanks for watching!!

Generally speaking, I prefer to move around the canvas. I'll set out for a section, or sections, during the day and then work on that. Then I might be in a different area of the canvas. My friends who diamond paint get headaches watching me do that. I also refuse to use a multi-placer bigger than a 7 because I cannot stand going beyond 7 in getting them straight. I also don't like putty. I have not had luck with it.

I also don't use a light pad. My eyesight is pretty bad, -8 in both. I seriously strained my eyes working on my first kit and it took over a week for them to recover. Afterwards, I eventually figured out I can only diamond paint when there's a good amount of natural daylight, taking lots of breaks to rest and get up. I wish I could work more often, but it's not worth my health.

I usually work on small paintings, so what I like to do, is to finish an entire color before moving onto the next.. Moving from small to large specifically. I don’t do washi tape or any sections at all! I know that nobody really does that, but I dunno, it’s comfortable for me. I hate switching colors during diamond painting, since it takes *ages*.

I bought one of the pretty plastic pens but don’t like it. I prefer the plastic ones that come with every kit I have purchased.with the foam grips. They fit my hands best. That may change when I do my first square drill painting.
