Just wondering if it counts for professional advancements outside of work by actively participating different Tech / my specialties related events? I've been doing so for many years and it's great for professional advancements to gain knowleges and networking. Does this kind count for OC2? Thank you! and this is super helpful. Great job @Nadia Zhuk!

Nadia thank you again for your amazing video, for the past few years, outside of my official work hours and for free and voluntarily , I have been an active reviewer of AI and cybersecurity top journals of world-famous publications such as : Elsevier, Springer, IEEE, etc. Can I use this as a proof of contributions out of work ?

Does "meet a mentor" count as proof for "a proof of recognition for work beyond the applicant’s occupation that contributes to the advancement of the field" ?

What proof did you submit for mentoring on codeyourfuture or other platforms?

A reference letter from Code Your Future, a blog post on Code Your Future website covering my volunteering experience there, screenshots from several virtual workshops and photos from IRL workshops I delivered in front of CYF students.

Does being a volunteer IT trainer/IT Director (how to code, learn data Science using AWS, Power BI and Tableau) in a charity organisation that does so many things like education, supporting disabled etc. qualify for the optional Criteria and can it be used for mandatory Criteria?

It's hard to provide a precise answer in a comment, without discussing your specific case in more detail, and I now try not to answer such questions without looking at the documents and understanding the case in more depth: it's easy to provide misleading advice and enough of it exists on forums, to be honest. Generally, yes, evidences like this can be used as one of the documents for OC2, but usually you would need more documents to meet a criteria (i.e. it is not enough to just have one volunteering example to meet this criteria.) I see a lot of rejections based on this criteria not being granted. Email me nadia@beetlehope.com if you'd like to talk about this privately.

So basically working for free makes you a global talent.

Not really, if the idea of helping others is so repulsive to you, you are free to choose other optional criteria, like innovation or academic contributions... Although you will still need to have some sort of an external profile, which is often made up of taking part in hackatons or writing articles or speaking at conferences, which often fall under your definition of "working for free." There is always an alternative route to the UK: Skilled Worker Visa, with much lower requirements. So I'm not sure I understand the point of being snarky :)

Working for Open Source is not necessarily for free :) , you gain a lot of knowledge (which may take you longer to learn by yourself) and in many cases you gain international recognition that is often worth more than "money", opens up opportunities worldwide and brings you closer to wonderful people who shake your hand so you aspire more in your professional career, and then there is nothing wrong with giving that back to the community. If at some point we benefit from the "community", then there is also a time to give back to the community, it is a cycle! And it's wonderful! :) It is the meaning of "community" in open source.
