Personal point of view. In my opinion 3d printing helps you to understand that wargaming hobby do not have to be expensive. Companies producing physical minis were trying trough all these years to convince us that you need to bleed your wallet if you want to have huge collection of minis. Now? Not so much as it seems. You guys mentioned GW entering into 3D printing in the near future. I am almost 100% sure that if they will - they gonna enter the market with really dumb ideas. Like - "You want to buy our digital minis? Well, in that case you need to buy our special Citadel 3D printer cause they are the only one capable of reading our home cooked digital format."
@hauntswargaming8 ай бұрын
haha I could see them doing that unfortunately.

One of the perks of 3D printing minis is a lot of weight is lifted as far as painting. If I buy a single mini, I get anxious about a color scheme and the quality of the paint job. With printing them, I can print as many as I want and can do stuff like a mini painted with a gimmick idea and know I can just print more if I want the same and paint differently without losing the first by stripping or painting over.

I design terrain, and the Bambu has been a game changer, quality and speed. Got a good rhythm, print prototype, work on next design, prototype done, print next design, add details to successful prototype or adjust it, send to printer, go over next design. Before is print prototype, fix printer…reprint prototype….calibrate printer again, solder printer parts…..print prototype,,,,

My problem was I printed a bunch of models after subscribing to knuckle bones and highlands miniatures before I knew what a pain in the ass resin is to keep intact esp with the little spiky bits and dropping models etc. So as my # of models ballooned without good ways to store them, I started getting a lot of breakage. Now I know to mix in the extra tough resin!
@hauntswargaming8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I went through like 5 resins before I found one that wasn't so brittle. I still try to avoid certain models because I know how easily they will break. Anything with wings, long skinny tails, etc.

For me, it's the marginal cost. I used to buy minis from etsy every few months. Each purchase was $30-$40. Now, I can print a lot of minis for $25 (resin cost). It's a great investment if you're a collector, gamer, etc.

3D printing is way cheaper than therapy.

Can't argue with that haha

Not so much addicted to 3D printing as addicted to 3D printing Patreons. There is no question that they are worth the money - but there are so many good ones that it can become expensive in spite of being of good value.

If I would have space for a 3D printer, then I would definetely be.

Resin vs fdm printing. Resin is so much less hassle. Recently upgraded to elegoo saturn 3 ultra, from a my old 4k phrozen to 12k the difference isn't huge but you can see differences, mostly details are more crisp and smooth areas are visibly smoother, they're kinda shiny whereas 4k looked matt. My ender 3 pro has 2 modes: Dream and Nightmare. Sometimes I'll blow through a roll no issues, then suddenly theres no end of issues and only trial and error to fix it. I'm in the nightmare right now...
@hauntswargaming8 ай бұрын
The issues do seem to come in waves :p what layer height do you print at?
@tomusannonymous8 ай бұрын
@@hauntswargaming 0.2mm on the ender 3. Getting blockages constantly after starting a new roll of filament, sunlu pla+ same as previous roll except different colour. I think its heat creep. I also replaced the fans to try fix it. When I get home I'm gonna make sure I didn't put the fan in the wrong way. if not that then...more stuffing about until it comes good.

I am not addicted to 3d printing. I am addicted to battletech and OPR, both playing and painting. It is just that i am not going to give money to catalyist game labs for battletech and for OPR 3d printing myself is the best way to enjoy thier models.

I really don’t understand why some of these stores don’t get their own printers and then either print licensed models or print for people
@hauntswargaming8 ай бұрын
Some do if they have the space for it

@@hauntswargaming i talked to my local store about it and their biggest concern was insurance for hazardous materials..which is valid..but man seems like you could get some crazy margins.

What is that mini, center bottom of your splash screen? Looks really atmospheric.

FDM is way worse for wasteful prints. Most of the crap you see is designed to just sit on a shelf like a Funko pop or something. I play historicals myself so an army is an army across hundreds of rulesets.
@hauntswargaming8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I just stick to generic terrain with FDM. I don't need random plastic crap. :p and it's always nice to be able to reuse models for other games.
