To be fair this is also a show with a certain purpose. The purpose wasn’t to have a conversation. Things would most likely play out differently in real life under more natural circumstances. The younger adult was actually perfectly in line considering his awareness of the show he’s on and the role he’s meant to play. The older guy was over the top, but considering how social norms were in his day he’s actually being very nice by complimenting her so much. It’s cringe for me n people my age, but the grandmas would be so over moon.

That's because SK beauty standarts are based on looking similar to Europeans 🙄Her face shape, features, skin tone, hair texture, etc. are normal in Europe, specially in Eastern European countries. So any average looking European girl can get that result with no effort at all. Just changing the way they do their hair, make-up and clothes and that's it.

@rydiavalentine Yup especially ghostly white skin ( please understand i think there are GORGEOUS people of all ethnicities and all skin tones!) I'm not putting pale skin down; it's beautiful but ALL shades are. There are pale ugly, plain, beautiful/ handsome, & unreal gorgeous people. The skin is the beauty. What I AM saying is a certian percentage of Asians [ because also happen to have Asian family & friends i also am aware you cannot generalize anyone, ik they don't ALL in entirety feel that way, but a majority do just facts] put FAR too much focus on deciding ONLY one boxed in ideal as being beautiful, & it's basically as long as you're white. There are so many factors other thsn skin tone that literally scientific biologically make the equation of pure superficial outward attractiveness. Body shape & fitness or lack thereof, eyes both shape & size as well as color, a d whether close together or wide set, litterly shape of features. Plus hair, hair length....even hpw one dresses can accentuate or downplay attractiveness. Yet, in Asia so many literally will automatically see pale skin & "ohhh she's a goddess!" 😂And yet the person will be plain as hell lol. But the pale skin is the only focus🙄

@@rydiavalentineKorean Makeup style looks weird on a lot of European women, European face is intimidating (BTW your Face is indeed Scary) and not adorable. The Makeup suits her well since her face is round. Come to Seoul, tons of Eastern European women after too much Kpop and Kdrama hitting the Streets of Seoul in search of a Korean man to hook up, it turns out Korean men think their faces are scary as heck, even after copying the style of Korean women. Those white women often complain Korean men "don't like us" lol

@@windysd8125 Sorry, just something that gets to me. Being offended on someone's else's behalf. You are right of course; people do judge other people based on their beauty. Unfortunately, that's biology. Men prefer prettier girls, woman like taller men etc. etc. For an average looking guy like myself, that can be tough sometimes, but that's the way we are put together. Of course, other things like personality, humor etc. plays a role. But first there needs to be an attraction and being pretty sure does help a lot. Nothing wrong in pointing that out and I think that was the whole purpose of this video. It's any man's natural reaction to react "positively" to a pretty girl. Some men (I would argue men in the west) are just better controlling our impulses. (Hide our admiration or whatever you want to call it)

But I'm not talking about occasional crushes here. If you paid attention to a few parts of the video, I think they reacted a bit exaggeratedly. For example, the things that that old man said to the girl, I think are a bit inappropriate. If he says you're beautiful for once, that's normal, but he repeats it many times and it makes the situation weird. .It's probably a culture shock for me. I guess it's a normal thing for them.

@@windysd8125 I think we on the west have been conditioned to be more reserved on our opinions especially around "sensitive" topics. I think in the east, people are more used to say what is exactly on their mind (IMO). Being part of a homogeneous society, I think also plays a role. I think we in the west have learned to think twice before we speak, since it can cause massive repercussions for you if you say the wrong thing. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I think it can be taken too far. To be fair, I think people in the east (Japan/Korea) have other areas where they are more reserved. Mostly to do with politeness. So, it kind of balances out, I guess.

It looks more like she got plastic surgery to fit the "Korean" look. Koreans themselves don't look like that naturally. You can see that she probably got a rhinoplasty and jaw shaving surgery - who knows what else. Plus the Korean style makeup just adds to that modern Korean look.

I think it's simply because Korean culture is very different from Western culture in some aspects. That's why they are so quick to judge when they don't find someone pretty. They don't often hold back their opinions either. It's not meant as an insult (in most cases), it's just normal for them. I'm not saying that I think it's good though. I personally don't like it when people judge others based on their looks, but they don't do it because they're mean or weird, that's what I was trying to say haha

There are plenty of koreans who are against treating/thinking ofpeople in a superior or inferior way based on their looks and the excessive focus on appearance, so that should tell you all you need to know. Its also common for korean citizens to be sexist and homophobic, all of it is mean AND weird. None of it actually benefits anyone in a positive way, normalization of things does not mean they are okay.

Nah, in Poland 99.9 people you meet on streets never had a plastic surgery. Most of them don't even wear a make-up. judgemental people will always be a huge deterrent for me. if i had someone tell me while blindfolded that they think i'm ugly because i talk fast, they can't smell me, or any other arbitrary reasons, and then they treat me entirely differently when they actually see me, i'd not have very high opinions of them. something about the way they harp on about her appearance and nothing else comes off as very unflattering to me. why not ask about her seven years in korea? what sparked her interest in learning korean and moving there? how it compares to poland? just ANYTHING to get to know her for god's sake, aside from "you're so pretty" for the 20th time. it comes off like they don't care to know anything more about her, her prettiness is enough for them. of course i can't speak on how she felt since i'm not her, but if it were me in this situation i'd be uncomfortable and frustrated. enough with the oggling and talk to women like human beings with thoughts, ambitions, personalities etc. they aren't dolls. i get that the point of the video is that they're "meeting a pretty girl", but come on now. a bit of depth farther than surface level would be a little less insulting

Nope. This is not an excuse. Lots of cultures have cultural norms which are harmful to human beings and people rightly judge nine ways to sunday. Being so image conscious has hurt a lot of people. Beauty is not the only thig that matters. And it is creepy to over focus on it. Now is it these individuals? No, they're products of their environment and SK is way overly obsessed with looks. A culture can be different and be valuable. It can also have differences that are not okay or helpful for anyone. This is one of South Korea's. Asian work culture overall is also very toxic. America/parts of the west has an issue with toxic individualism and "pull yourself up by your boot straps" mentality. Differences in culture don't excuse toxicity in the culture. It should be judged for how it treats others. Both of those examples are things that should not be in the culture because they are just harmful. Normal doesn't mean okay.

Looking at the comments I can see how many have traveled and know about other cultures or not..... Most would be in the "not" category lmao. To me this video was so sweet, the grandpa's compliments were heartfelt and sincere! That is, because I can read Asian grandpa's body language and know when they're truly creepy :P Y'all need to study without prejudice.

In Poland she is normal girl, nothing special. I don't know why she is pretty in Korean eyes? We have probably another standards. For us Koreans people's are pretty. She's just normal.
