In your own words, what's the difference between an ALMOST Christian and an ALTOGETHER Christian?

Let me ask this, Brother Matt. When you affirm the Creeds(Nicene or Apostle’s) week by week at service but in so doing, in reality, you ignorantly or worse yet, willfully remain ignorant of the revealed testimony of Jesus and the Apostles and and the inspired writers of Scripture concerning His Kingdom and the New Covenant; are you an almost Christian? According to the account of Jesus meeting the Samaritan women in John 4, Jesus announced that God is Spirit and they who worship Him MUST worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Doe such a one I described above attain to this status or are the “almost a Christian ? Please consider. By the way. I found your videos by happenstance online. You led me to join a me Global Methodist assembly. I am grateful!6:01

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I really appreciate the question. I'm a little hesitant to create litmus tests, and it's not altogether clear to me that someone who is worshipping with church week by week will be ignorant of the revealed testimony of Christ in scripture. For Wesley, to be an almost Christian was to have a sincere desire to please God, but to not have that desire motivated by a heart of love for God. The helpful thing about Wesley's sermon is that it's not hypothetical. He's speaking out of his own lived experience. So, glad you found Theology Project and so very glad you've connected with a Global Methodist congregation!

A common version of "nearly Christian" is mere Intellectual assent to the facts of the gospel, (the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and the availability of salvation only through Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf). A true conversion to an "altogether Christian" involves the supernatural intervention of God such that a person is born from above by the action of the Holy Spirit and begins to be transformed inwardly by the renewing of their mind such that their whole orientation is shifted from selfishness towards love for God and for their neighbors.

WESLEY DID NOT EVEN BELIEVE O.S.A.S. ON HIS DEATH BED... THAT'S WHAT I CALL 'ALMOST CHRISTIAN or 'ALMOST SAVED BY GRACE' !!

I fear this video may be describing me. My faith in Jesus is like a roller coaster over the years. I say and do all of the right things but I do not have a desire to pray as I should. I am also struggling with a certain sin that hinders my faith. Recently I have stopped attending church as I feel as though I don't fit in. I have no vision for what God requires of me and no desire to live life fully. Please pray for me.

I prayed for you tonight. I’d encourage you to connect with a healthy church and some believers who will walk with you and encourage you.
