Do you think Ashes of Creations testers will turn a blind eye to things that could potentially hurt the game because they are full of hype? Does paying to test a game affect the overall quality of the tester?

Question 1: do you think hype for ashes will make the testers blind to/ignore problems with core pillars out of love for the game making them bot want to be negative because they feel it will succeed on launch or that being negative wont help? Answer: yes and no. I feel their may be people who wont be the first to say their thoughts on bad parts out of fear of it hurting the game but i also feel they will bandwagon when others speak first and its already been said. Beyond that, in general there will likely be people who will kust stop playing the alpha 2 when that happens and if they have a survey get sent to all testers emails each week (they could allow an opt out) that asks questions like 'how do you feel about this system or that mechanic as well as if they havent been active that week, why.

@@R_o_o_k_i_n_g_t_o_n that's a decent take. I think you may be right. Some may definitely be uncomfortable calling out potential issues.
@R_o_o_k_i_n_g_t_o_n7 ай бұрын
Question 2: do you think the mindset of the tester matters to the quality of the data they produce? If so, why? Answer: yes and no. I believe it does matter but not in the same way that people are saying as for me, the super hardcore bug testers are the ones paid by intrepid to test the game and shouldnt be the majority of the testers as it can only fix the games bugs but not actually critique the actual gameplay loop or quality of the systems added. All in all, i feel as long as they make clear to all testers to report any bugs found and their opinions on any and all systems in the forums with perhaps even a message that says as much each time a tester lau ches the game, i think it's FAR better to be the sort of player fine with bugs and jank who tries to play the game as if it was the full game with only the truly devoted players even bothering specifically hunting for bugs.

@@Roarrior also i do wanna to my question 1 answer that i feel there also will be plenty like maybe you or even me if you have seen my constant forum posts who may be over critical out of fear of not having given enough feedback so i feel that with that balance of most being overly positive and than the few grouches like us or at least me will be the perfect balance as we loudly and proudly callout issues that let others jump in and say their piece about it not feeling so bad because at least what they are saying isnt as harsh as others
@alex1327887 ай бұрын
I bought into the Alpha 2, and personally, if there are issues with the game, I'm going to be much more likely to give critical feedback and much more robust in that feedback. People paying that much typically (I'd assume) are more invested in the game doing well. And if there are problems the logical thing would be to solve those before the full launch, so that the game can be successful, not to bury your head in the sand and pretend nothing is wrong as the MMO cycle of the last 2 decades repeats.

I'm a tester. Great message. I'm not going to have any problem with letting them know if things aren't working for me... but I'm also olden, have a healthy perspective, and don't care if my views aren't shared. It's important to have varied and diverse opinions if the game is going to be a success, but I honestly believe that they've shown as a team that they are very open to critique. They consistently openly ask for it. I think there will be enough people being honest with them, and I think if they aren't listening to the community, or systems in the game aren't working, the community will absolutely let them know (specifically BECAUSE they have paid so much to test it). They are going to hear about it if it sucks. I feel pretty sure about that.

Well said. I agree. It's up to us to let them know and up to them to sort it out. Thanks for watching!

A few points: The 100K number does not include the, as yet, unannounced number of pre-order pack purchases after the announcement last year (Mar?), so the number can be considerably -- easily within the tens of thousands -- higher. (My guess, at least 200k). "Feed back" does not equal "veto power. The design of AoC is (since JB left) a one man show, and while a consensus amongst players might sway minor changes in details or implementation, it won't make any significant difference in the basic "design pillars" of the game. And, in point of fact, that theoretical community consensus has yet to appear and may never actually coalesce. Any A2 ticket holder who does not have a "software tester" mindset whereby their single fundamental goal is to find and report bugs, provide detailed and specific reports of problems, and slavishly repeat activities to generate data, rather than a "player" mindset will not provide productive input to the actual in-the-trenches programmers who will fix the code.
@Roarrior7 ай бұрын
While I understand testers don't have veto power, the fact remains that if enough reports get submitted about the same potential issue, it will cause the developers to look at it. The random single odd ball reports probably not so much. And while we have been told over and over that the core pillars wont change, if the testers are able to deduce that a system is just down right bad with the proper explanation as to why, chances are Steven wont launch it in that state. He isn't a dummy, That was New Worlds problem. Took feedback, didn't listen, launched anyway, now dead. And while I agree about the player mindset testers, I am hoping at least that the people who follow the day to day ashes AND invested in a key will have that tester mindset to grind out that data. Not all of them will. But I'm hoping for at least a larger percentage than a free alpha from other games. I mean Intrepid constantly asks for feedback, we should assume they aren't ignoring it.

@Kngly17 ай бұрын
I hope people give constructive criticism but also I dont want Intrepid to change how they want the game to be. Aoc will let down some people either be action combat lovers or anyone else really so . I just hope they fix bugs if the systems need some adjustment do it but do not change the game because it is not your childhood memory mmo.
@Roarrior7 ай бұрын
This would be fine. But if systems turn out to be unfun and numerous tester reports identify this then it needs to be reviewed regardless if it's how they want the game to be. WoW launches features all the time that aren't buggy but they are just shit and no one wants. That's not making the game better just because the dev wanted it in the game.
@Kngly17 ай бұрын
Yea I agree and at the same time even if alot people also want something doesnt mean its something good, Alot of times people dont really know what they want so I feel its about if it feels natural and organic go for it. If it doesnt you can rework that idea or dismiss it completely. Test everything but also have fun doing it. I was not able to buy a key unfortunaly but I hope people already be creating memories in alpha@@Roarrior
@Roarrior7 ай бұрын
@@Kngly1 as long as the reports are enough to get intrepid to take a second look then I'm ok with that. Of course every feedback left needs to be taken with a grain of salt on intrepids side. I'm sure there are going to be lots of personal opinions in the feedback and those aren't always healthy for the game either. But I will be covering the alpha completely and streaming. You're welcome to tune in and be a part of the memories.

I am one of those who paid for full Alpha access. I am one of those who regrets putting up the money. Primarily because how PVP and the corruptions system was first introduced to how now it appears that forced PVP is going to be a pretty major part of the game and progression. I stopped producing content because I was also getting Star Citizen Vibes and I have accepted that my money is gone. I am not sure how much I will remain involved in testing.

I bought into A2 years ago now because I thought if it gets to that point that's the most important testing phase for such a huge project. People need to temper their expectations for Alpha 2, this is going to be buggy and it's a critical phase for testing for the company. Prepare yourselfs for wipes and broken shite :) I've from a softdev background, I think I'll have spreadsheets of bugs I'm submitting :) I'm not going to be 'playing' an early release.

I bought the Alpha 2 key knowing full well that this might not be my type of game. I come from EQ2 and know that AOC is not going to be the same nor do I want to turn it into another EQ2. I have so far stayed away from any news with only watching narcs recaps and opionions so i can reserve my judgement while still staying somewhat in the loop. I hope the game will be good and will offer my views if I see something I don't like but so far we haver to wait and see how the many game systems work out in live testing to really see what's good or not.

I can tell you this game has numerous things that need fixed i.e. the mobs having varying move sets rather than two mage types casting the same spell at the exact same time looking like a mirror as in the footage you just showed. As for 'Choice-supportive bias' clearly anyone dropping a bag for the game are going to overlook any of the issues and constantly try to justify their purchase. Unless you are someone with self awareness, I don't believe this type of bias can change, the most we can hope for is within that large pool of people, enough can provide proper feedback so we can all get the best end product.

I disagree that if people had to pay as much money to be a part of the testing process for New World as they have Ashes that they wouldn't have criticized the game for the way it launched. That game was plagued with issues to the point of changing genres a mere year before release. Ashes may have it's own issues, but none so glaring as the New World dev cycle.
