My first original Macbook pro 2015 battery only lasted barely above 1000 cycles & died out after 4 years. Got an official replacement via Apple (they replace the whole bottom part of laptop except screen) & now 4 years later it's at 2300 cycle count but it still works well. Although I do keep it plugged in on charge a lot more than before, it was worth the official apple repair but wouldn't do it again as might as well buy a new model now. Shame in a way cause my 1st Toshiba when I was kid lasted me 8 years with no repairs.

First day i had my acbook i downloaded aldente pro, had the thing for a year now, still the exact same MAh value as the first day. Charged to 100% twice in one year, i set the app to 60% and leave it plugged in all the time, if i´m on the go it never goes underneath 40%. I am a bit extreme tho and i make it my lifes mission to maintain high battery health on all my devices, but hey i have a 6 year old dyson that i also never fully charge more then 3-4 times a year, and the battery is still perfect, giving me almost 40 minutes of usage while some friends have to buy a new battery every year

Thanks! I basically do what I talked about in the video. I never leave it overnight, most of the time I use Al Dente, and when I don't I typically don't let the Mac discharge below 20-30%. Once a few months I do a battery calibration (it requires discharging completely, leaving it for a few hours and charging up to 100%) but it takes some time and can be slightly annoying so it's not for everyone.

Hi BOG! Great video and recommendations, just one question since clamshell mode wasnt covered and I use it daily with my monitor and the Macbook lid closed and plugged in. Should I just use it open and disconnected? Or clamshell mode uses just the charger and not the battery?
@bogxd
@bogxd 9 ай бұрын
I use it like that as well, I'm not sure what's the best way to do it but I always use clamshell mode with Al Dente. Occasionally I unplug it (at least once a week) or just stop using the clamshell mode for like a few hours to let it discharge a little so it doesn't stay at the same amount of charge for too long.

Thanks, I had heard that it is best to never turn off your Mac and iPhone so as not to stress the battery during startup, what do you think?
@uBreaky
@uBreaky 7 ай бұрын
Turning on/off or restarting won't stress the battery; you will just experience a small peak in CPU usage for about 2 to 3 minutes (or more on old Intel Macs), as more CPU usage equates to increased energy consumption. However, this impact is negligible within a full 100% cycle. It is better not to close and reopen apps if you plan to use them frequently throughout the day. There is no need to turn off your Mac/iPhone every night, but a small restart, like every 72 hours, for rotating services/processes can be helpful in keeping your device 'fresh'.

There's the laptop's utility app that comes with it usually have the setting to limit the battery charge. (for my example, I have an ASUS ROG laptop and it does have its own app where I can limit the battery charge to 80% as the app recommends, or 60% if you keep it plugged at all times, which is what I'm doing) for Linux, I don't know myself about it (but pretty sure there's an app for it, and hopefully someone will answer that) Other thing I'll add here, you may find the setting to limit the battery charge in the BIOS.

Your video is interesting but the information is always very mixed and unclear. Apple advises against using any extra tools for battery management, says that the same system is optimised for battery management itself and preserving its life. Several users have complained with “al dente” adverse reactions and worsening, I have tried and I find the idea of having to use a maximum of 80% and take advantage of at least 3 hours less if they are around, for fear of damaging it, I bought a 4k Ferrari I want to use it for its maximum potential. Otherwise it makes no sense to buy products with larger batteries and then not be able to take advantage of 30% charge per cycle, your thinking will technically have its reasons, but Apple still does not recommend the use of third-party apps for charge management.

I had the same question about whether Aldente Pro makes a difference or not. However a colleague of mine lost battery health to 81% over the course of a year, which is very unfortunate. I understand that it's a single data point but that has at least convinced me to try out Aldente Pro. So far, so good. 27 cycles and 100% health. Whenever I have to go out, I use the "top up" function to charge my battery all the way to 100% and take it out. Of course, this adds a layer of inconvenience but worth a try imo.
@uBreaky
@uBreaky 7 ай бұрын
@@kayglifts Always keeping the battery between 30% and 80% is not a great idea over time; that's why some people using Al Dente have problems with it. Making one complete charge/discharge occasionally (like once per week or every two weeks) can prevent this, as they mention on their website. Setting a reminder in an app can help avoid issues with the application. Additionally, Al Dente is only interesting for people who keep their Mac plugged in all the time. If you only keep your Mac plugged in occasionally, such as on Sundays, you don't need Al Dente. Charging to 100% is not a problem if you're going to use the battery after the charge, so there's no need to reduce your Mac's autonomy if you plan to use it on battery. This won't cause any inconvenience at all So using the top up function is the best things to do, without any bad effect for the battery

you charge it when you want and how you want. when the battery health hits 80% you send your mackbook to apple for a battery replacement if you are very poor, or you buy a new mackbook as it will take a few years to get your battery health down to 80% at which point you will probably want to try the all new M6 or M7 or whatever anyway. for an average consumer there is absolutely no need to ever think about any of the stuff this video is about
