After trying (forcing myself) to use notion for about 3 years now i finally decided to go back to Evernote this week, Notion is a hella of a product but I feel like its starting to want to wear all the hats instead of just specializing in one. I found myself building and tinkering with thing more than being productive and I feel like that will ultimately be a drawback for notion. but great to see Innovation.

Good to hear. I always loved Evernote but pissed me off it suddenly got so expensive. I was about to to try and learn Notion, but decided it was a better use of my time to to just suck it up and pay.

Bending Spoons continues to bring new energy to the Evernote landscape - very exciting! Markdown notes would be an incredible change, but I expect there is a lot of roadmap still to be realised. Apple Notes and OneNote sit in a "how to" section of the screen, so there probably isn't support for their formats, rather they have written instructions on how to get to a format that Evernote can (now) ingest Cost of Evernote is looming as the biggest concern for me over the longer term. I intend living for a long time yet and the idea that I'll need to pay so much for Evernote, for decades, when I'm eventually no longer earning an income, is something I am genuinely worried about.

Great insight - thank for sharing… too bad I finished my manual re-migration back from Apple notes recently. I used Evernote for years, then switched to OneNote in combination with outlook and ms to do for business reasons, then for apple notes in my private live as my wife did not want to use Evernote. I had a stop to fall on love with obsidian …. Started to use MS loop an planner as I switched my job and jumped to MacOS where OneNote is not super great…. Long story short…. I am super happy what Bending Spoon is doing and came home to Evernote … finally. And it really felt like coming home. I am back 🎉

Great to see every new development at Evernote. I wish sending notes directly from Drafts to Evernote would come back. ERR: Just tested the "Mail to EN" again: It is handy for me (don't know what I did wrong before 🤦🏼‍♂️)

This is great advice. I came to the same conclusion by trial and error when I left Evernote long before the acquisition. In the interest of accuracy, I'm not going back to Evernote. There are comforts I miss from both Evernote and OneNote, but overall Obsidian is just better for me.

Totally agree re markdown support. I renewed EN for one more year after seeing the many advancements, but I fear it may be my final year with them unless I see substantial improvements in the handling and annotation of PDF's, along with more robust support for handwriting. I'm still keeping Apple Notes as my go-to for those reasons.

Totally agree to the learning… each product has a slightly different mindset that helped me to improve the way I see notes in general - regardless of which tool is used. Besides of other things my journey teaches me to believe in atomic notes and to structure my notes with the PARA method from Tiago forte… great book BTW.

If I moved away from Evernote 6 months ago, and coming back. I do move notes one by one manually. That way gives me opportunity to review them and make sure everything is correctly recorded. Doesn't take too much time, can do while watching TV in a few hours, but worth the effort.

I have too many notes and that wouldn't work for me. But I did something similar when I moved a portion of them to Obsidian. I did it one notebook at a time, and kept tweaking the tags and other details on the original notes to make the imported versions work better on Obsidian. And, of course, I also deleted plenty of old notes I didn't need anymore.

After years with Evernot switched to Craft, highly recommended for all Evernote orphans.

@vladcampos I kindly disagree with you about Evernote's file format was a quasi-standard ever. Markdown is, because it is portable by heart. All of the newcomer note taking applications offered and offers import from Evernote because they know its situation, there was huge userbase, lack of features, slow dev, price etc. So the other apps felt that here is easy-to-grab audience for their offerings in note taking world. However. I developed Yarle, because I realized that the import feature of the other apps are not complete in many ways, they focused on their own features instead of making the import complete. So I had a feeling that there is a nieche for Yarle.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was talking about back in the day, when Evernote was by far the main player and the ENEX-XML format + API was used by many. There was even a fully functional non-official Evernote client built based on that format. As for Markdown, I entirely agree, it's the format all apps, including Evernote should be using. In a way, the market forces are doing what they do to make that a reality. After all, Evernote is no longer the sole or main player. As for Yarle, I see opportunity for you as well. You have an outstanding solution there, and maybe it is time to think about providing an import option for people who are willing to come back. 😉

To my surprise Apple Notes was able to import ENEX files…but this was the only tool I am aware of that has this capability

Evernote users need a robust EXPORT feature so those who want to back up their account can do so in one swoop. It would also be helpful for those who whatever reason want to leave the platform. This is a big deal, especially for users like me who have been on the platform since 2008 and have thousands of notes and many notebooks.

Never, too expensive for a note taking app, also having AI is not for me. I feel they’re using our data without our consent to train AI. In happy with Bear and Obsidian

Doesn't the "new" Evernote let you export only 50 notes at a time anyway? Which is one of the reasons why I exported my ~3000 notes with the old client and have no intention to move back to EN. And yes, Markdown IS already a standard (as others have pointed out), but it will never be able to handle the "endless canvas" stuff (OneNote & others).

The limit of 50 was imposed on the selection of notes. Not exporting. If you open a notebook and click the 3 dots in the upper-right corner of the notes list, you'll find the export option that will export the entire notebook. Depending on the total file size, it might split it into multiple files, but you can export all notes in a notebook in one action. As for selecting notes, the limit has increased from 50 to 100 a long time ago 😉

@@vladcampos Is this in the desktop client? I don't have an export option in the three dots menu in the web app. And I don't have a desktop client connected because after reverting to free, the web software forced me to disconnect the only (!) other device I had connected. I did not expect that, and now I'm down to one 'device', which is the web app. EDIT: I just noticed that EN indeed just implemented a SINGLE-device restriction for free accounts, which leaves no room for a desktop device besides the web app. Consider me unamused.

Deus me livre. Conclusão, estou voltando de novo pro bom e velho Evernote, infelizmente no ctrl c ctrl v pois não encontrei nenhuma outra forma pra levar os arquivos de forma automática.
