I graduated BCT a week ago. Thursday at Jackson. They don’t do the ACFT till the middle of red phase, then the middle of white phase, then the beginning of blue phase. Best way to prepare is good cardio. Be able to do 1.5mi with no stops. Learn to stand around pointlessly and be patient. Make friends at basic so you have someone to lean on. Just don’t give up and you’ll do great, yeah they’ll treat you like shit but that’s part of the mental game.

How much do you get rest between SDC and 2MR? I run 2 miles in 16 minutes and can run 10 miles at an easy pace. But I suppose your legs will feel jelly by the time you finish SDC. Did you have enough time to recover after SDC?
@MonkePants711 ай бұрын
@@arandonextdoor2228 Your hamstrings will be destroyed after the SDC, you have a decent amount of leg recovery time (roughly 30-45 mins) but they will not fully recover by the 2miler

I graduated from BCT at Ft Jackson in 1998. Honestly it wasn't bad at all from a physical standpoint. Our PT every other morning and runs the other mornings was easy compared to HS football and wrestling practice. I was there with people who came to basic in pretty bad shape and overweight a bit. They were put into a lower running group and worked their way up to standard. My advice is to go to basic in as good as shape as possible but if you aren't in good physical condition don't worry. They will get you there.

In the 2 months leading up to basic, my daily training routine was: 1 mile up and down a steep hill every day in boots with a backpack full of bricks (70lbs) 2 mile jog in athletic shoes 50 pushups every day 50 sit ups every day. This is from total couch potato that juuuust made it with a taping to qualify for weight, so it was tough. At basic, this put me in the middle of the pack for pushups/situps, towards the front on ruck marches, and towards the rear when it came to running. I should have run way more.

Yes, the army does still make you do the ACFT in basic and AIT. At Leonard Wood we did the pt test 3 times in basic and HAD to pass at least one. In AIT we had one ACFT we had to pass (also required to pass). If you were going airborne at our AIT you were required to take theb APFT. Edit: the ACFT goes for record on October 1st. If you are heading in now, you will be required to pass it.

One thing that is important is to be at a healthy weight. If you're fat, not only will everything be much harder, but the drill sergeants will immediately notice and you will become their target.

Basic really wasn't bad at all. I went to jackson over the summer and it was pretty easy. Just did a company 3 mile a few times a week, had to take the ACFT 3 times, and did a few other things but all in all it was pretty easy. I am 35 and had to drop 210lbs just to enlist. Cardio is honestly the key to making it through basic. You are going to walk/ run everywhere you go. You will be stronger guaranteed by the time you get to the final ACFT especially if you’re in a platoon full of hooligans

Plan now for ruck marches. also the crossfit....i mean "combat'" pt test "acft". I want to talk about some of the *MENTAL aspects* hopefully your reception will last only a few days, but in case you get a reception lasting a week long then be prepared for one of the worst things you'll ever experience in your life, short of a loved ones death. If you have a weeklong reception, be ready for many times where you'll be forced to stand around for literally several hours on end, even when you have nothing to do. Even at night when there's no more processing to do for the day, for no other reason than to stress you out as much as possible, *you may be forced to stand out in the cold for several hours before being allowed to go inside to lay down and you might be surprised at how MAD this can drive people (i' had guys about ready to fight each other, as well as kids picking up and throwing rocks at other recruits. I saw one guy in the back just whip out his penis and just piss right there)* . You also might not be allowed to get any sleep your first three days there. And speaking of sleep, you will see people just passing the fuck out while standing up because of all the stress and being forced to stand for hours for seemingly no reason. So get ready now to standing up in one spot for hours without passing out. Also be ready to only have a maximum of five minutes to eat. Get used to eating very very fast (which isn't good for your body) Also for actual basic, work on taking as fast showers as possible. In my first week, my bay was only given a maximum of sixty seconds to wash out butts. I knew you couldnt' have ten minutes to shower, and that's fine, but just sixty seconds??? All that sweat and dirt from throughout the day, and we only had a maximum of just sixty seconds to shower. Work on that now. Work on thickening your skin as much as possible. You will be punished for things someone else in the platoon or even another platoon did that you weren't even aware of. So work on accepting that mentally now too. On some physical stuff, Chris Chaos mentioned about not falling out of a run. Doing so will get you trouble because a drill sergeant will take your dog tags and youll get a negative counselling later.

This is where the Marines are different. Back in the 90's when I was in Boot Camp we had something called IST, which stands for Initial Strength Test. The IST was given before you started actual Boot Camp. IST is a bare minimum PFT test. If I remember correctly you had to do like 3 Pull-ups 40ish sit-ups and run a mile and a half in like 13 minutes or something like that. I can't remember the exact numbers. Anyway if you failed the IST you went to the Pork Chop platoon, that's what we called it when I was in to get your ass in shape. All you do is PT. You are given multiple chances to try and pass the IST and if you continue to fail then you will be sent home as not strong enough to join the Marines. If you can't pass the IST then there's no way in hell you'll pass the actual PFT test.

Basic Training is just that: Basic. You don't have to be an athlete or even necessarily in shape, but a few things based on my experience: Unless things have changed to better reflect the ACFT, Future Soldiers are required to pass a "1-1-1" prior to shipping (1 minute pushups, 1 minute sit ups, 1 mile run), the same as that conducted at the Reception Battalion. If you're looking to get promoted through the Future Soldier Training Program you'll need to pass a full fitness test. To be honest, a lot of Recruiters, including myself, wouldn't hold someone from shipping because they were a few seconds slow on their run. The Drill Sergeants will push you to your limits. We had some studs and a lot of duds during our Pickup each cycle. The studs still expended a lot of sweat and saw some improvement, but the duds were who I liked seeing march across the parade field. For example, I had one kid that couldn't do a single proper push up during the first APFT; by the end of the cycle he was easily passing. We had another kid whose body went into shock from all the exercise. We were walking to the obstacle course early on when he collapsed. For the next few days his battle buddies had to carry him everywhere because his legs just didn't work. The doctors said there was nothing physically wrong, just that he had never exerted himself before, and he did end up graduating on time. On a personal note, I laughed at the APFT standards while in the Delayed Entry Program. I'd ran a 5 minute mile in high school and was a mechanic by trade, so I had some strength. Endurance was another matter. I quickly learned that 23 year old slightly overweight me lacked the running ability of my leaner teenaged self, and that picking up heavy things doesn't equate to high reps in a fitness test. IIRC, I did something like 9 push-ups, 13 sit-ups l, and ran a 19:25 on my first APFT. Fourteen weeks later I was doing around 65 push-ups and sit-ups and running under 13:30. When I got to Fort Campbell I was regularly scoring 290+...the one time I maxed the run I missed sit-ups by one rep.
