A big part of it, to me, is that it just ended up being yet another "Imperial betrays Empire" story. We never get stories from an Imperial POV. Even Morgan's story only had her being apart of the Empire for part of one episode. For a series called "Tales of the Empire", we don't really get much actual insight into the Empire.

Qui Gon might have, too. He was still alive for like over 10 minutes while Obi Wan was fighting Darth Maul. And it was in the spine, not at the side. If he got immediate medical attention, who knows.

She is a woman in star wars... they already tried to redeem Reva by the simple act of her not trying to kill a child she tried to kill for no reason. And she maimed people, killed people, brought children to be tortured by the inquisition... actually personally tortured children before Lea got on the table, blamed a man stuck on the other side of the galaxy in the middle of a war for something he couldn't have stopped... and then got beat by a bunch of hillbillies before chasing a child into the desert trying to kill him... before shrugging her shoulders and giving up thus being instantly redeemed. A minor terrorist who bombed random innocent civilians and then backstabbed her best friend by avoiding the crime by framing her best friend might as well be accidently yawning and not covering your mouth to Disney these days.

They went to the trouble of animating the breath frost in the scene explicitly to show when Barriss stopped breathing and her life ended, and it was done in service of redeeming another Jedi, thus redeeming herself. I agree that the Bariss story was so-so. I get what Filoni was trying to do by narratively bookending different results of dealing with "fear", but yes, another Imp turning back to the good side, another individual who survived (maybe/maybe not) a lightsaber strike to the gut, another "what happened" ending to the Bariss storyline & another Jedi who survived Order 66. Bariss' willingness to kill another Jedi to survive is an action that should have narrative consequences, but really doesn't.

I loved her first and last episodes. I don’t think the middle one was enough to get her from point a to point c though. But that was always going to be the problem with doing this story in a three shorts format. I think they could have gotten so much story out of Inquisitor Barriss and made her redemption more gradual if they’d done that story elsewhere. But I love where her story ended up. It just needed more to get there.

Her reason for turning on the Jedi was because she criticized them as serving the darkside due to their constant involvement in the war and abandoning their principles in service of a corrupt government. The Inquisitiors are no better because they’re outright shown working directly under the Sith. One of the Jedi survivors actually point this out in the first Barriss episode. Barriss only agreed to join because it was either that or death and when she saw a way out she took it.

Remember in TCW, we did not get interactions with Anakin and Barriss at all, they have to give it to Ahsoka which had no business being involved with the whole deal. Also, just because Barriss is a healer, doesn’t stop her from getting stabbed. She is done for, no amount of substances in bacta tank will fix the damage.

I also didn’t like episode 2 of Barris where she didn’t seem to know she was on the dark side and part of the “bad guys”, the Ninth Sister mentioned about how they were broken, tortured etc. to bring out the Dark Side. No way would the inquisitors think they are just “Jedi but working the Empire, not the Republic” Neither her nor Morgan were staples of the empire, so many more interesting characters.

I feel the exact same way. I loved and really enjoyed Morgan Elsbeth's arc and the first episode of Barris' arc for its darkness and genuinely good storytelling, I even enjoyed Barris' second episode but the ending of that second episode and the last episode is where the show fell apart in my opinion. If you go back to The Clone Wars, Barris frames Ahsoka for bombing the Jedi Temple, killing several Jedi and clones, force chokes a citizen who knew too much, also blaming that on Ahsoka, killing clone troopers in the prison with Ahsoka's lightsabers, and even knocking Ventress unconcious to fight Ahsoka and reveal herself to the Republic, and if Barris was not caught by Anakin, Ahsoka would have been given the death sentence by Tarkin and killed. Barris even fought Anakin Skywalker!! What about that in The Clone Wars would make her compassionate and care for anyone in Tales of the Empire? If she was willing to frame and kill her best friend, she would not care about some random Jedi's life to turn back to the light side. I was excited for this show because Barris was the one character whose backstory we knew before she became an Inquisitor, and that backstory showed just how dedicated and corrupted she had become, making her the perfect Inquisitor. The fact they undid that even though everything from earlier, and even Barris quickly killing that Jedi in Tales of the Empire, show that she really should have been full dark side, and never turned back. That honestly ruined Barris' character in my opinion and kind of took the rest of the show down with it, which is horrible because I love these animated anthology shows and want more of them, and this one was good for the most part, but I frankly enjoyed the Morgan Elsbeth episodes more, even if they were too short. Not to mention, with no speaking lines, seeing Darth Vader still gave me chills, and I still enjoyed the series overall.

One idea I have for a future Star Wars short series is Tales of the Rebellion, where one half of the story focuses on the early stages of the Clone Rebellion during events of the Bad Batch and will serve as a prelude to a future Clone Wars spinoff. The other half will focus on Barriss Offee and Ahsoka and their time in Bail Organa’s growing rebellion and Barriss’s and Lyn’s story after Tales of the Empire. It will also address what happened in between episodes 5 and 6 of Tales of the Empire, since a lot of time has passed in between episodes and it was implied that Barriss had met Ahsoka in between said episodes

Same. If anything Bariss's story falls more in line with the Tales of the Jedi. Bariss's episodes if they had to be three should have followed her fall into darkness, similar to Count Dooku. The first episode should have covered what happened between the Parasite episode and her Betrayal. The second could've kept her becoming an Inquisitor but she doesn't leave it. The third would have her hunting Asoka and it could've been titled "Reunion". Tales of the Empire should've focused more on Stormtroopers, Thrawn, Tarkin, or Palpatine.

I feel like the inquisitorius weren't represented right. Inquisitors were always seen as 'sith assassins' and embodiments of pure evil. If Palpatine, Vader and the Grand Inquisitor chose them, it's because they saw their potential. The fourth sister is the perfect example. Instead of reasoning like a jedi, she comited genocide. Just seeing Barris Offee abandon the inquisitorius for the light side, feels wrong since that isn't what they stand for. Inquisitors should be pure evil, and if they aren't Vader would have sensed it and killed or tortured them for their 'weakness'.

tales of the empire defiantly fell short of tales of the jedi. Morgan's story beyond seeing Grievous again didn't really interest me as we actually already knew 90% of it, mainly both the beginning and the end. We knew she was a Nightsister who survived the attack on Dathomir and she eventually joined the empire and became a magistrate who focused on gathering resources for the imperial Navy. We also know what her goals where and how she died. Compared to Dooku, we knew how he died and what he did during the clone wars but most people didnt know about his origins or how he turned in the first place. We had the end of his story with his origins beyond being Qui gon's master being left as a mystery, making his tales far more interesting. All Elsbeths tale did in the series was confirm some details and made her responsible for designing the Tie defender (didn't know the Nightsisters were engineers as well as Witches).I wasnt a huge fan of her being tied to the tie defender as it makes it seem odd that she didn't appear in rebels on Lothal where the fighter was being developed. Barriss' story was also pretty mid and they very heavily click baited people with Darth Vader being in the trailer only for him to appear in one scene sitting on his throne.

Look at it in context: this was aired at around the same time as Bad Batch season 3. A season that showed the return of Ventress. Tales of the Empire also has a reference to Ahsoka. So we have Ahsoka, the sudden return of Bariss and Ventress and the introduction of Lyn (the fourth sister). All force users who all now land somewhere between the light and the dark. The cliffhanger is necessary, because Filoni is constructing the framework necessary to introduce a third path in force user groups. A group somewhere in the middle. Maybe Barris will play a part in the live action Ahsoka? I mean why start the tales of the empire off with the Villian of that show, and show us Barris in the next 3 episodes? Remember Barris also hints at a "friend" shes sending people to, which i think implies that friend is Ahsoka. Cause if Barris just popped into the Ahsoka series w/o having seen this, we'd be VERY confused. So im hopeful this was just a way to set Barris back into place in the plot and get her Ready for the Ahsoka series... if not.. this story was certainly not needed.

I honestly didn't like the fact that she became good again. I mean the Jedi betrayed her, maybe the inquisitors are not algels but they gave her a chance, I thought it would be a grayer character, one who was going to stay in the empire but who would serve her way without being as sadistic as hers "... brothers..."

Also am I just being stupid here but during order 66 wouldn’t the clones be trying to kill Bariss because she would’ve been part of the order when the inhibitor chips were planted in the clones and yet they just say count yourself lucky your not a Jedi. That to me doesn’t make much sense because surely they should be trying to kill her like other clones did with Ahsoka. Anyone got an explanation for that?
