the true definition of '' less is more ''.. the cool thing about the mastering engineers is, when they adjust something or add something to the sound, we probably dont notice a thing at first glance, but there is definitely something gets changed.. lots of densely packed yet valueable information here which is really helping me to get perspective. Of all the things in mixing/mastering, compression has been the hardest for me to understand how to practically apply it. I don't think people in my given the thumbs down just because they think he's a rubbish tutor I think it's because most people simply cannot hear any difference in any of the audible comparisons maybe they need monitors that cause minimum £10,000 up along with the added outdoor gear then connect the TV to KZbin then people say KZbin bitrate and compression is far too much that's why I think they are giving the Thumbs Down

At this level, most of the compressive effects (especially in the first demo and about the frequency affects) are so subtle that I can't really hear them. Clearly, I do not have the trained ear of a mastering engineer. Multiband compression (as opposed to using a limiter) for mastering purposes is most definitely something I do not know how to do. So much good information in this video! Changes a number of aspects of how I think about compression even just from a mixing standpoint. (After all, if the mix is well done, the mastering engineer shouldn't have a great deal to do. There's nothing for him to fix!)

Very interesting and informative. I just finished Jason Allen's courses on Mixing and Mastering and re-watched Rick Beato's "How Pro's use Compression." Each has their own take on how compression is done and what compressors to use. No one right way, just taste and styles, but it does help to know the standards that have been used for years on popular songs.
