Thanks coach Dan I can’t wait to try these 3 tips out I’m always trying to figure out if I’m over striding or if I’m a heel striker because I feel like I’m mid foot striking but never 100% sure

As a former "bad person", the hill repeats really do help to change cadence. 👍

This was very informative. So are shoes that have a 10-12mm drop bad for running or walking? Since you don't want the heel strike

As someone who is a masters runner and have been doing this a long time. I agree and disagree. I've been a heel striker forever and I've worked on it and have made improvements in my stride but I still tend heel strike when I go all out. What I've learned is if you are going to heel strike the long stride will be your friend. It causes you to you use your legs and knees as a lever action shock absorber, this reduces the impact on you knees. Keep in mind that you shouldn't lock your knees and should try to push off with your toes.

Ive been heel striking lately simply because when i land on the balls of my feet i end up with knee pain in my lower right patella, any one have an idea of what i could be doing wrong?

These are great tips, for me increasing the cadence has helped me a lot. But let's not focus on heel strike or not, I think the key aspect is over striding, if you over stride your cadence is going to be lower, there's going to be more impact on each step and your legs are going to get tired faster. Unless you're a sprinter and have to run a 100 m as fast as possible I would try to not over stride 😀 . Cyclists train to pedal at high cadences for the same reasons.

I don't think I am ever gonna hit 180 spm. I feel like 170 spm is my abso max.

180 is just a guideline, 170 is great for lots of runners, especially those with longer legs

Should your cadence vary depending on your pace or should it remain similar for all paces?

One thing these guys always miss is some heel strikers do it because there's an injury or defect, so it's a forced adaptation
