My grandma would hound me to get her cigarettes as soon as I was old enough to buy them. She was mean sometimes. Would try to shame me, but I refused to open that gateway to being used like my mother was. No. No. It was always no. Boundaries are so important!!

My heart hurts for Preston. 10 years ago, we lost my 22 year old daughter in law to alcohol overdose. I needed to hear what Dr. John said because we all knew she was troubled and we have all felt guilt for not preventing her from hurting herself. Her son just turned 13 and doesn’t remember her. I’m praying for your brother Preston!

Cindy, I feel for you and your mum and what she’s about to go through. I know first-hand how hard it is and that’s WITH a will in place. You can’t make your Mum or her husband do anything. Just try to guard your own sanity now. But if it helps at all, it’s like my grand father. He hated going to the dr. Hated it. One day it became apparent that he was very ill. In the end, it took my grandmother threatening to walk out (she had her bags packed and everything) for him to listen and go to the dr. Turned out he was in late stage kidney failure and they just managed to save him. If my grandmother hadn’t of gotten angry and tough, he’d have died. Sometime you HAVE to push people to save someone. In this case your mum has to push your step-dad to save herself. I know you know this though. I’m praying your mum works it out too xoxo

1:29:00 Woman talks about dying father and wanting to encourage him to write a will *Cue upbeat snazzy music* Edit: she mentioned she had a lot to unpack and that seemed like a good moment to say "ok, well let's cut to a quick break and you can gather your thoughts and we'll help when we get back"

What there is to do in Nebraska that would make anyone want to live there over California? If you like the country then yeah it's great, but us city folks do not like it at all. They move to Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, states that have fun stuff to do.

I moved to Nebraska from California. I love it here & when I tell other Californians how great it is, they laugh at me. But the joke is on them for paying $6-7 a gallon for gas and $2,000 rent for a room in someone else’s house!

Shout out to Dalton @ 47:00. I’ve been an LVN (LPN here in Jersey) for about 6 years and just got my RN. But maybe he could find an LVN to RN transition program. I did one at a community college in NJ, got my RN. Still have more school to complete the bachelors degree but at least have increased my income substantially in the meantime. Good luck

I live in Temecula California and homes are selling site unseen. They are selling before there is a sign in the yard with multiple offers. Rentals are very difficult to find as well. We are losing people that are moving out of state but I think because we are such a well planned and managed city people are moving from LA and Orange.

It's one thing to understand child support as what it was designed to be or atleast disguised to be and maybe what it once was. Today it is a money making racket for states who are subsidized with federal dollars (from the S.S. fund.) for every dollar of child support they collect. You gain a new understanding when your writing large checks that support, not your children, but your wife and her new partners life style while also actual having to support your child after paying "child support."

@@Thathat-o7w I would actually be the receiving parent. However, I know alot of Fathers who would love 50/50 shared parenting. Fortunately some states, such as KY have gone to a 50/50 presumption and I believe alot of states will follow. I also know fathers who do have custody and still pay because of shared income structures in some states. I also know fathers with weekend visitation, who pay child support and also pay for the things their children actually need because it's the only way the child will get what they need. Child support is too often not about supporting children.

@@meymay11 I'm an advocate for children of divorce and a 50/50 presumption. I'm certainly not complaining about taking care of my child. I do believe both parents are equally important. I know my child needs his father in his life and I'm glad he is there. Working with hurting fathers, I have met many who would love an equal role in their child's life. Fortunately, I believe our society is headed in that direction. Unfortunately, I still see child support used as a weapon and is often the motivating factor for custody disputes and false allegations. All to often, child support is not about supporting the child.

I hope these kids are in Al-Anon. That's the only reason that when my alcoholic father came to me for money, I was able to handle it in a way that still allowed me to sleep at night. There is no situation too bad to be bettered and no unhappiness to great to be lessened.

What happened to "the least the government is involved in your life the better." ? Why is that theology different in regards to child support. I could have recieved support and refused it because I genuinely believe "the less the government is involved in my child's life the better off my child will be." That includes when the government tries to force my child's other parent to hand me money.

@@Thathat-o7w that's not true. Especially not in every state. In Tennessee it's not the parents choice to recieve child support or not. The state pursues. It's also not either parents place to negotiate the amount to be paid. The court will do that to. Now it is true that the receiving parent could gift the money back to the paying parent but the state will pursue and collect regardless of a parents wishes. Also, every state receives federal subsidies for the CS dollars they collect. That's not the attorneys. That's the state.

@@Thathat-o7w not sure what state you are in but that's not true in every state and certainly isn't here. It doesn't matter if you are on a form of state aid or not. The state pursues and sets child support. There has got to be a child support order. Also, the federal funding I'm talking about is found in title IV-D. It has absolutely nothing to do with wether or not you recieve any sort of aid. The state is paid from the social security fund to collect child support.
@duanejackson6718

Child support is a cash cow for the state collecting it, legislation allows them a dollar for dollar match. So far every dollar they collect from the non-custodial parent, the FED will pay the state collecting the exact amount they collected. It's funded through the federal Social security budget..... it's a total scam, that's why they nail a guy for half his net income.

I was looking at percentages on net worth of Americans. If a person has over 200,000 and assets, of course that's free and clear, that makes them richer than 70% of America. On one hand it's pretty pathetic on the other hand, it doesn't take much to be above 70% of everyone else.
