Hey Rick you probably don't know this but 4 years ago, I applied for a job with Ministry of transport and basically watched your videos to prepare for my ministry exam. Your videos have always been so helpful

That's simply awesome my friend, I am honoured to have played a part! Just to clarify - you did get the job at the MTO? Thank you for dropping back. All the very best, Cheers Rick

Hi Rick, understeer and oversteer are terms used to describe what the vehicle is doing vs. what the driver is doing. I suggest using different terms for what the driver is doing so as to be clear for your viewers and students. Use phrases like "over react and steer more than what is required" as an example. Great chanel and discussions which is greatly needed. We need to discuss oversteer techniques. Thanks, Darcy Advanced Driving and Race Driving Instructor

Thanks for that tip. I hadn't thought about it in those terms - what's the car doing vs. what's the driver doing. Thank you for giving me that valuable teaching information. If you're still in Calgary, perhaps I can get out that way and we could do a video together!? I liked the race between the Honda, the Porche and the Formula 1 cars on your FB page. Interesting the comparison. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi Rick i think i know where i am going wrong with changing lanes. I am not counting the full 3 flashes before moving over. I need to try and relax again before i change lanes. Thank you Rick. ❤

That's a common problem my friend. Many want to do the "swastika" lane change, as I call it. You're correct - slow it down so that you have time to both look and see, and communicate effectively. When learning how to drive, so many think it's a Navy Seal covert operation and they have to pull it off with optimum speed because everyone's out to get you in hostile enemy territory. That's not the case at all. If you communicate effectively, other's will help you out. Great insight. All the very best, Cheers Rick

@smartdrivetest Thank you Rick. Yes I have noticed If I don't move immediately I get honked at. I need to go back to basics and breathe. I start to "panic" when I change lanes now which is not good. Thanks again. Thank you for your reply.

Hi Rick, when you had your spin on the highway (you said you lost the rear of the car which is oversteer), what did you do with the controls? If you where driving a front wheel drive or all wheel drive (your CRV) you can add gas or put transmission in neutral or dip the clutch to get the rear wheels back to static friction and steer and look where you want to go as you say.
@smartdrivetest14 күн бұрын
Hey Darcy - thanks for the question. Nope, I don't think hitting "the gas" would have pulled the car out of the spin. I was going too fast, and the "ole buggy" just doesn't have enough power. I would have had to downshift for that to happen. And I'm pretty sure that I did push in the clutch. I was just lucky it happened on an empty road...which come to think of it is where most encounter ice on the road. All the best, Cheers Rick

Rick if you're doing trips during the winter time when there is a snow storm around pay attention to the authorities because they make announcements for highway speed limits. In some states max speed during a snowstorm is 35-45 mph 55-70 kmh.

What you're experiencing my friend is called "social driving." And the pressure to "hurry up and go" is VERY real. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU'RE DOING. If you're on a multi-lane road, move over to the right lane. If not and there's a place to pull over and let the car pass...let them pass. Increase distance in front of your vehicle so you don't have to do anything aggressive. Because essentially you're driving your vehicle and the goofy vehicle behind you. And see this video too for more winter driving information: kzbin.info/aero/PL0x-bChcUvwGXH4VbLmO0gJJpeIqLrs2T Drop us a note if you have more questions. Cheers Rick
