I have had my license for a while now but always have had anxiety. I do not drive on highways because I have a lot of anxiety about merging. To me it feels like I almost have to force myself to do something and just trust it will work. While increasing my speed and just hoping someone will let me in. I live in a high population area in NC. I also have general anxiety and fear around driving in new unfarmiliar areas. Do you have any advice? I guess my plan is to take it slow and start with things that stress me out a little less like lower traffic unfamiliar areas. Yesterday I saw a car trying to merge when their lane was ending on just regular streets and it looked like the 2 cars were competing and about to get into an accident. It was crazy to me and a big fear of mine.

I have been a technician and shop owner for 43 years in the cold climate. Hitting the button before starting will not aid in starting your car when it's cold.

Putting it on neutral is the worst idea I've heard. Sometimes, braking mid turn will make you move in one direction and unless you press down on the gas, the car won't fully turn.

So I took my driver's test today. And I failed due to the fact that I didn't slow down enough or come to a stop while turning right at a yield sign at a four-way residential intersection. I scanned my surroundings, checked my blind spots, and made sure it was safe to proceed(no cars were coming in any direction). And in my state of Iowa it is not permitted to come to a full stop at a yield sign and I believe that is the case with every state. I brought this up to my driving instructor and she insisted that I needed to come to more of a stop before proceeding through the yield signs.

Hi! A question about 3:32, obviously the car should've stopped completely instead of edging against the people walking, but should they have stopped at the intersection before turning at all and waited for them to cross, then turn? Or was it acceptable for them to simply stop infront of the people crossing? May be a silly question, but I have nobody to teach me and am trying my best to learn as a 19 year old. Thank you!

Also, throw some extra clothes in the back of your car. Sweatpants, sweater, scarf, good hat, etc. In case you break down or have an accident. You'll appreciate it standing beside the car or walking for help.

I live in the snowbelt with big hills in my area. Never owned an automatic in 30 years of driving. I always use the transmission to slow the car going down hills in the snow.

When at night or day when I’m stopped at an intersection or driveway exit where there’s not much visibility to the left or right, I open the two front windows to also to be able to listen for approaching vehicles. I also open my driver windows when I come out of my driveway in New York City where parked cars are blocking my view so that I can look for headlights at night but also listen and if I’m the day to listen and proceed with caution. Sometimes bicycles and scooters are driving in the wrong direction. I also open my window when backing up into a space just in case I were to miss seeing a pedestrian walking behind the vehicle. I feel more in tune with the situation by listening as well as looking. Any thoughts ?
