This animation is so well-made! I am a graduate student studying chemistry animations and the message delivered in this animation is very clear, the pace is well-done and not complicated to understand at all! I can't stress how much I love that you emphasize that the spheres are just an illustration of an atom instead of the atom itself. It is very rare to see an animation addressing the concept of representation before using it. Keep on the good work and I look forward to seeing more animations like this!

Thank you so much! At the heart of it, you're right, a lot of this animation is really about visual representations. But shhh, that's supposed to be a subliminal message. ;) Also, where are you studying? I studied biomedical animation at University of Toronto, but I don't know of any programs specifically about chemistry animation.

@@biocinematics I am at Purdue, Department of Chemistry, under the division of Chemical Education. I actually have met Prof. Jenkinson (which I believe that you worked with) in a conference two years ago and I believe we may meet again very soon. Going back to the "subliminal message" comment, I believe nowadays we sometimes have to emphasize the artistic license that we take to create representations. Lots of our audiences may actually believe that atoms are like ping pong balls and bonds are really sticks between them XD.

What a great animation and story! The "Bonds" was funny. Also, as simple as it might seem, the picture where the atoms are stuck together made a difference. The representation where the bonds (haha) are separate from the atoms is hiw I used to see it. Chemistry is difficult to m3 because I have a hard time picturing it. Even when I do, another element comes along and chanfes the rules. So these things are very helpful.

The key point is "Carbon" atom play very important role when bond with different atoms of different elements as being like the glue which keep the structure of the simple molecule to the most complex one like the "protein" stable, because of its unique physical bonding property , Silicon on the other hand being a second possible "life based form" candidate , but the problem for silicon its can not form a stable structure as in "Carbon".

This is a great video, totally you are underrated. If all your content is this good, youve earned a sub. Nerd nitpick: Oxygen usually does not contain a double bond, but actually a single bond and a 3 electron half bond, making it a diradical. Double bonded oxygen, called singlet oxygen exists but is more akin to the excited oxygen in fire. I know this is pretty much irrelevant but I just had to get it out of my system xD
@biocinematics
@biocinematics 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This is interesting, I didn't know that about oxygen. I'm intrigued to read up more about it. Asking honestly, do you think this is a misconception that is too often perpetuated in education, or a detail/nuance that requires advanced chemistry to really grasp.
@gefulltetaubenbrust2788
@gefulltetaubenbrust2788 3 жыл бұрын
@@biocinematics I guess it's more the latter, since this knowledge isn't too useful until you delve into spin, excited states of molecules and their reactivities and such. And when you teach someone about lewis formulas, they will find it more intuitive to think everything would always want to be in the singlet state. Then again, it is technically wrong to just say it has a double bond, but I think that isn't too important. Maybe if it is shown as example it's a bit deceiving, but again it hardly matters. Also, as a little correction for my comment, triplet oxygen has two of these half bonds, not just one.

The question is not what is the percentage of carbon in the human body. This is a traditional question. The real question that we can benefit from is what is the percentage of carbon in every animal on Earth, and each one individually, and the characteristics that each animal uses to benefit from the carbon in its body. As a simple example, the water goblin is the salamander that renews the limbs of every animal. It is characterized by a distinct carbon cycle, just like us humans. The percentage of carbon in the body differs among us humans according to the person’s condition. For example, there are people who have a carbon percentage and carbon cycle in their body that is different from others. For example, the magnetic man, the electric man, the rubber man, a mirror with X-ray eyes, and many examples. Carbon and the percentage of carbon may differ among us humans. It is a little complicated and requires an in-depth explanation for good understanding

Great video tank you. Is there i am wondering evidence to support that our only mass? I have faith that a good exists and wanted to ask if our thoughts, have a mass? As they are often stored in our bodies as stress ( Jo Dispenza) So then does ultimately our soul exist within our bodily mass? I would love to hear from you
@biocinematics
@biocinematics 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting question, thank you. If you consider our thoughts to be electrical impulses traveling through neurons (brain cells), then definitely the ions (atoms) flowing in and out of the cells to produce these thoughts have mass. It depends on what you consider to be a "soul", but I would say a soul is not a physical entity, so it does not have mass. It's interesting to speculate about what a soul might be and how it interacts with thoughts, for example, but that seems to be outside of the realm of questions which biology can answer. I hope that helps.
@andywall2401
@andywall2401 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. Our cells are replaced over a period of days as within out gut and a few months for other tissues, as the years go by we are physically not the person we were a year or two earlier. As you say the atoms have mass and what i find amazing is we are the observers of our thoughts and not the thoughts themselves. Therefore our soul is something outside of the physical and known mass. Isn’t this incredible. Have you any thoughts on this ?
