I don't know. I hosted a talent show and what made it a success in my mind is that someone else got a standing ovation. One of the audience told me that I'd challenged her. That meant success. Is that spiritual growth? Probably not. And during the talent show, my right knee started to hurt. The preliminary diagnosis is arthritis. That's not spiritual growth, but it may signal upcoming growth. I hope. Right now, I'm accepting but struggling a little.

Wow! I didn’t realize that there were disciples that left Jesus. The story about the two friends really hits home. In this politically and racially divided world we’re living in, being African American, I find myself being hurt by some of my brothers and sisters in Christ. But, I know they are just like me, trying to navigate this world while following Christ. Heavenly Father, I want to be a doer not just a hearer, a follower not an admirer, a student of your Word to receive credit, not just to audit it. Help me, dear Lord. Convict my heart when I deviate from the path you have set for me to follow. Amen

Audit or credit? OUCH, that's how that statement felt. I have audited and done credit classes, so I have lived the difference. This was one of those moments for me, incredibly profound to me, John. Thanks for the kick I needed.

Heard a talk from John on you tube years ago asking if we are admirers or followers! Often I think the majority of us are admirers . Personally I strive to apply what I hear every Sunday and during the week as I study the Word, but I fail so often . As John says ... I can't, He can , I think I'll let Him . Excellent message which I am.going to make work of thank you

Been asking this question of myself off and on for most of my life-I long to be a faithful disciple and so often discouragement and anxiety crowd my view of what the Lord. I often slip back into Obedience “A” out of fear since Obedience “B” feels so hard.. “I believe, help my unbelief” today! Thank you team at Becoming New for these daily encouragements…I will follow that Man today, with His help❤

My thoughts this morning were quite similar to your statement. I sometimes have struggle with my intentions. But as often as it has happened, God seems to speak to me with men like this at the right time. And then I understand that God is never given up on me. It's just my doubts sometimes about myself.

I agree! What's the balance between self-reflection to ask these hard questions, but then to turn and ask Jesus to help us follow Him!@@CaptainKoozmack

Jesus is real. We're in it for credit. Lord help us when we're not being disciples. And to Tim's request over the weekend. We've definitely grown since joining up with the Fellowship of the Withered Hand. We are actively pursuing and will always pursue the me that He and we want to be. We can see our growth by our actions and words flowing from our hearts. We know we are close when we don't have to ask what would Jesus do. Yep, we've still got a ways to go! Thanks for helping to guide us along the way.

Thanks, you nailed it again! Thanks for pounding me deeper into the Word of God! This Sunday my behind the scenes service with our church was appreciated, but my JOY is no-one knows who it is, except our Father 🙌🏻 ❣️

“I’m not gettin’ myself crucified”. What a thought. Lord, if I’ve been stopping at the cross and unwilling to be crucified with you, help me move past that and willing go all the way with you!! For you are worthy

Today's lesson goes deep... will I fish or cut bait? Will I be an actual fisher of men or just talk about fishing? I struggle with what I know I should do and actually doing it. I felt the Spirit was nudging me over the weekend. Out of the blue (maybe not) I thought about a best friend, Dan, from high school who is now a high-powered attorney In Fort Worth. I literally dropped in on him unannounced while riding my motorcycle cross country decades after we graduated. He cleared his calendar and we spent all day walking, talking and of course eating some Texas barbecue. Early in the day, Dan told me about leading a BSF group that had well over 100 members. He was fishing not talking. Hmmm... why did those thoughts about my visit with Dan just pop up? Now, I've got John Ortberg nudging me. The question now doesn't seem to be WILL I fish but WHERE will I fish?

God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is Love. This fact has been stirring in my heart for many days now. The spiritual growth I have experienced is that as I receive God’s love, I am able to give much more love. Love produces love. This growth has transformed me - - something I have longed for all my spiritual life.Love is the answer Jesus gives whenever I am struggling.

My sign of spiritual growth has been developing over the last few weeks, with me accepting the development over the last 3-4 days. You never know God’s plan, but you must trust in it. I’m turning my uncertainty of the future over to God and trusting in what He’s developed for me. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to strengthen my faith by taking the class for credit rather than auditing it. Love this comparison!

I am working hard to learn and follow. Some days the lessons are like the college course you spoke of. I keep digging deeper, using multiple Christian resources, and trust that I am being changed so that I will do His will and not my own. It's a life-long process. I wish I had started sooner. Thank you, John and Tim. Loved the teaching today.

Convicting message today. I have experienced the difference between auditing and taking a class for credit…passively observing as opposed to earnest attention, intentional presence. and doing the work required to fully experience and embody the material being presented. Reflecting on my heart today and my true desire to be a disciple and what that means. Thank you for the accountability of your message today. ❤

Thank you John and team. 🩷 What a convicting message. 👏 The distinction is so apparent when thought about, but I'll bet it is rarely thought about or taught. I do want to be a disciple and follow Him out if love, not obedience A. It is hard. Especially when confronted with challenges that life can bring. I believe I am experiencing spiritual growth by realizing others in my life may not be following Him for credit, and therefore not acting towards me in love. But I must still live and serve them with an open heart and no judgments. Thank you for this great and much needed message. 🙏

I want to be motivated by love too, and not just be a rule follower. The good news for us is that while the Holy Spirit is working on our hearts to change our motivation Jesus considers our acts of obedience to be acts of love: i.e., “if you love me, keep my commandments.” As apprentices to Jesus we start by imitating him and eventually good works flow out naturally from our transformed hearts.

Wow! I'm not just radically challenged and convicted by the content but by the comments of my fellow admirers / disciples. I don't know where I stand now. Following to the cross, not sure if I follow Him on the cross. I'm questioning all the times in my life that I professed how much I love Jesus. Do I, though?
