Thank you for bringing this to light. Most don’t think about grip size and how size affects your ability to square the club face. Just as most hardly ever think of shoe size tow box shape and fit.

I used oversized grips and love the way it feels and it makes my hands quieter so I don’t get so flippy at impact.

I used to use standard size grips but found out even though my hands measure out to use standard the midsize feel far better and work better for me as well. I really enjoy the Golf Pride CP 2 pro and wraps. Nothing feels better than those. Good job on this video Hannah. Well worth thinking about even though most never do.

Great information on a subject many take for granted. Great to see how Ping take care of business in the custom fitting options, way better than many other companies: Thank you.

I use jumbo grips on my wedges/short irons and it help me hold the face however open I set it at address and regular sized grips on the rest of my clubs.

Good video, insight into how the grip can help you, i have the lower 1/2 of mine with 2 wraps on it. I always do my own grips.

I moved up to Winn Grip mid size, because the shock aborption is a little better than the standard grip. (I don't have arthritis, but my hands hurt like hell after a round of golf, and now am experimenting with compression gloves on both hands. ).

How about jumbo max grips? Based on their fitting system tool I would be a medium to large jumbo max grip which is totally different from what ping guide says
@SteveSmith-zz4ih2 жыл бұрын
i have tried the Jumbo grips and Medium is too big so small or even extra small might do BUT club fitters still need to get the swing weight right fitting new grips many DON'T! i did buy a 2nd hand shaft for my driver, it came with a very thin grip (felt terrible) but i still hit the ball just as straight as the bigger grips, so i'm confused! will put on a J/Max small.

Yes that's why it is important to get the grip size right when you're fitted! The builders can swing weight them then.

If you use larger grips, the more control you'll have on the clubface. Your hands can't rotate as easily & have less effect on a square clubface. Think DeChambeau. He uses monstrous grips & doesn't have a big wrist set like others do. I can't imagine how he'd be able to control the clubface with normal grips swinging at his speeds. Just as with his putter, his full swing at impact, his arms are straight rather than slightly bent to not straighten until after impact to full extension. That's 1 variable he's gotten rid of in his swing. Wrist set & rollover eliminating face rotation. It's remarkable how great he drives the ball & with accuracy at that speed. If I'd even attempt to swing that hard, I'd dislocate both shoulders & tear my spine in half. No thanks. I prefer making it through the round with my body intact.

Although my hands measure out to standard grip I definitely found I have far more control over the club face with midsize grips. I agree.

No mention of how a larger grip effects swing weight. I had Jumbo and couldn't feel the club head, switched back to regular grips and hey presto I can feel the club head again.

Brands should reswing weight when you buy the clubs to avoid that!
@petteremberson2 жыл бұрын
@@nationalclubgolfer Not at all, not just the brands you have to think about. You would think it's common sense that a pro would talk about how the grip will change the swing weight but the majority I've known don't. When a mid handicapper asks about it, you get a strange look as if to say yes it will change but your not good enough to notice.

Use whatever grip feels comfortable for you. I hate this traditional measurements "oh your hands this big or this small so you need this grip" no use what works for you. Fitting and fitters dont give the average golfers a chance to pick a size there just told your hands x size so you need x grip. I use a jumbomax ultralite in medium it's changed my golf swing for the better my hands are much quieter and less tension in my arms. But I wouldn't tell someone they have to use them because it works for my swing and how comfortable I feel. Same way I wouldn't tell someone not to play a skinny grip. Feel what's right for you players.

Instead of changing expensive grips why not have 1-2 extra layers of tape?
@nationalclubgolfer2 жыл бұрын
That would also work!!

If you had arthritis, the jumbo grip suddenly becomes a great option? Of course not. So let's stop using antiquated ideas and get more data on grip sizing and model. It's worked great with putter grips. I think it could benefit the other clubs in the bag as well.
@nationalclubgolfer2 жыл бұрын
Jumbo grip isn't only good if you have arthritis they obviously can work for others too. The point being made here is that lots of people with arthritis struggle to close their hands fully so jumbo grips can help.
