Great timely video Jason. I totally agree. Same problem with the rapid round. The emergency feed needs to be directly on the top bars to be effective.

I used the HiveAlive Fondant last year with great sucess. I think the package on top of the frames acts like an umbrella over the cluster. Good video, thanks for sharing.

Only issue I've had with cerucell feeder us them propolizing th slits if it it runs out of syrup and I don't get it off on time. I have been selecting for high propolis producing bees which is probably part of the problem. Otherwise I love them. Glenn

I'll be curious how the new apimaye feeder works out this winter. I bought on for each that I have, so time will tell. Hive Alive fondant, LOVE IT. .

I'll test the one before I go all in. They do look promising but the bees could tell use something different. Time will tell. No better winter feed than the fondant patties, for sure!

I use wooden top feeders on all my hives and leave them on all year. This way I don't have to use up limited storage space in my garden shed. In the fall, I put granulated sugar in the top feeders as an emergency food source. I have never had any problems overwintering with this method. However, I live on the east coast of Vancouver Island where winters are not severe compared to the rest of Canada. I recently purchased 3 Cerocell top feeders, partially filled then with dry sugar and plan on leaving them on over the winter to see what happens.

Glad to hear you haven't had any issues with the feeders. Hope you enjoy the Ceracell feeders!

I'm running double deep nucs with a spacer for sugar. Probably going to try using a double screen board in between separate nucs. If I do that I'll use a spacer below the screen board for sugar, too. Ten pounds of sugar on each nuc. Just an experiment on some weaker hives this winter. I've been successful with double deep 5 frame nucs with just a spacer on top for 10 pounds of sugar in the past. In that case all the bees were free to travel on all ten frames. I.e. Like a ten frame hive only vertical. Thanks for the video, it seems to validate my idea. It's really a combination of several beekeeper's ideas.

Hive Alive fondant is the best winter insurance available in my opinion. Their pollen patty is superb as well. Jason, thank you for mentioning your Hive Alive discount. By the way, will you be attending the North American Honey Bee Expo in Louisville KY?

I agree, my bees love everything I've offered them from Hive Alive. I figure if we can all save a few bucks with my code then everyone wins. Due to me living on a farm with daily duties, I will not be attending the conference, I would sure love too but it's hard to find someone I trust to care for my livestock the way I do.
