Hey toontrack. It's nice that you put so much effort into the development of new sdx's and the marketing for them. but unfortunately I still haven't found a solution for programming realistic (half)-open hihats in the 8th note pattern at higher bpm´s (160-180). it always sounds washy, or (depending on the voice and layer settings, where i can get rid of the "washyness") like a random generator with 3 samples... is that better with the new sdx's? because the way it is now, your program is unfortunately not usable for me. i use the sd3 core library and independent. I think i have tried everything.. :/

I tend to hear it the same way. I found that using passive EQ to boost mids helps (and make sure its got enough level and compression on hi hat overheads). First i always max out the voices/layers and slowly reduce that if needed. Hi-hats are tricky. Helps to vary open-ness but it shouldn''t be needed. The pedal hihat is particularly weak without passive EQ . (I find digital serial EQ is too harsh for this boost - less natural soundinf...)

Hey Daniel, you can listen to the raw samples at the site: www.toontrack.com/product/area-33-sdx/ Click "Instruments & Articulations", there are multiple examples of the raw kits there. The kits can be loaded in SD3 as raw kits without any effects in the Mixer or in the more "processed" presets.

Now we are waiting for an SDX that will tickle the real drum aficionados and not just "metal", i.e. Weckl Winter SDX during Fusion February, Donati December Drop, Cobham/Coleman/Colaiuta Cascade SDX, Horacio Hernandez Hangover SDX and so on ... (vi ger det några år till). But drums are drums are drums.
@metroknowm2 жыл бұрын
i have recorded on many albums you've heard. i have also studied w/ weckl and know his drum sound well. you can get the 90s fusion sounds you're after with their current libraries, but you have to know how audio works. if you want solid fusion drums with which to create a palate, start w/ calvin rodgers' newish gospel ezx. also new york sessions' sdx, hansa, roots sticks, and the recent hitmaker. you need to build your own kits to get the right sounds. the most important aspects of the sounds you're after are primarily these factors: snare choice, cymbal choice, compression, and room sound / reverb. another tip: i have NEVER gotten the sound i've wanted off of the stock sdx effects.
@ricklang_drummer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for a fantastic answer that completely missed the easy point of my post. But you should not feel bad about it:) As I said: drums are drums are drums, and Dave was merely an example. I too have used SD for the past 15 years recording to clients worldwide. That of course includes routing everything to DAW and using only my plugins of choice. On top of acoustic recordings, mixing, mastering. I can get the drum sound I want from a nice selection of bean cans if I get creative and enough time, but you have to know how how audio works. Let me know if you want help with getting the drum sound you're after. Best of luck!

It's just too bad TuneTrack doesn't give a damn about blind musicians because if they did and made Superior Drummer accessible for us I could buy this great SDX but I can't because greedy businesses won't make their software accessible to the blind so I hope you like losing money TuneTrack. It may not be much but the few thousand blind engineers/musicians in the world know. We know you don't and won't care just like most other companies so yeah. I'm not gonna stop trying though.
@snesmocha2 жыл бұрын
I’d love suggestions on how to make software that blind people can use. But possibly give suggestions as it’s also quite hard without user feedback
@BJKG5b2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't accuse Toontrack of greed. Many software developers simply don't have accessibility on their minds. Audio software is usually optimized for low-latency performance. In that environment, the motto is "less is more". However, it is quite possible that accessibility can be added without sacrificing performance.
