Best thing a new hunter can do is try all of them in the training area first. Get a feel for them all and pick the one that fits you best. So many like to just jump straight into the hunts and then complain how the movement feels and weapons are complicated. You'll get used to the movement and realize it's so fluid and smooth as well as the weapons. You'll learn there's important combos and each is completely unique. You can't just grab whatever and button mash, you might beat the first few quest that way but you'll quickly hit a wall

Insect glaive is kinda nuts in sunbreak, the new bugs gave us a lot of new playstyle. The powder vortex means you're playing support and ranged at the same time. The boosted extract assist one means you almost have to actually stay on the ground to get the big boi powder to spawn, etc. PS do NOT sleep on the para/heal vortex bug, that thing cheesed me through the expansion with the highest of glaives, para attack and coalescence + hellfire. Add a hunting horn or hammer in that party and it's suddenly a boring game lol

I think you should have gone a little more in depth with every weapon downside too, so new players now what to expect. Things like "Long sword relies a lot on good timing for it's counters" or "Charge Blade combos need some getting used to because they can be complicated" or "Hammer can't cut tails, has a charge mechanic that you need to pay attention too and you also move slowly while it is unsheathed so you'll have to sheath/unsheath a lot...."
@sleepyppl42862 жыл бұрын
you seem to dislike hammers a lot, and most of your criticism is just blatantly false, you dont need to constantly sheathe and unsheathe your hammer, you do move slower, but not by enough to make it worth sheathing, instead just hold a charge then walk around till youve got an opening to attack, just make sure to keep enough stamina to dodge and you dont even need to pay attention to the charge, you just hold the button till it glows white and let go, there are 6 weapons with charges that you actually need to keep track of and constantly pay attention to, dual blades demon gauge, long swords gauge (idk what its called), charge blades phials, switch axes sword meter, insect glaives kinsect stamina, and i guess gunlance wyvernfire cooldown is something you should peek at too the point is hammer is one of the simplest weapons in the game with very little drawbacks, its biggest one being that you cant cut tails but if you play in a team the ko damage will give your teammates plenty of time to do that for you
@TheAzulon2 жыл бұрын
@@sleepyppl4286 Oh no, I love Hammer, it was my first weapon and I only changed to Charge Blade and then Long Sword after I realized I would have problems with the tails. I talked about the Hammer charge mechanic because it has a real impact on the weapon gameplay, because the time you charge changes the move you are going to use after release. If you release at level 2 you will use the Upward Swing, but if you realease at level 3 you will use the spinning attack, so you have to pay attention to the charge level if you want to have full control of your moveset. It is not hard, but it is part of the weapon mechanics. Also, as hammer wants to be on the head of the monster at all times to make the most of the stun damage, against faster monsters or monsters that move a lot just dodging is not enough, you will have to sheath and run to follow the head.

Great info! I have been pretty much exclusively using the Dual Blades since I like to be fast, but this has made me interested in trying out some other things, especially the Insect Glaive!
@VultureXV Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I've always had a mental grid for "which weapon I want to use today" sort of questions. I have always been able to separate things into these primary categories: Item Knowledge ---- Weapon Knowledge (Some weapons like bows and bowguns and SNS actually benefit more from you knowing not only where things like endemic life are, but custom radial crafting menus and usage of certain items mid-fight. SNS basically gains 'attacks' so to speak depending on your items just because it can use them without sheathing the weapon. Other weapons just want whetstone, health potions, maybe a trap, power/armor charms/talons, and well-done steak.) Technical ---- Direct (Weapons like Longsword and Charge Blade are incredibly technique-focused weapons who's entire playstyle DEPENDS on building meter and landing specific combo hits or else the fight turns into a slog. Weapons like Dual Blades just need to concern themselves with pushing R2 every now and then. This also includes how much monster knowledge you need for windows and counter opportunities.) Mobility ---- Power (IG can dance, literally, around entire encounters and land needle-like hits where it needs to. Greatsword just slaps things once) The last is range, but honestly it's secondary compared to the other things above. The traits above, I feel, are absolutely core to any particular weapons and if rated on a scale of 1-10 of each accurately demonstrates the weapon's playstyle adequately.

Although hammer is pretty easy to use, I do think it requires you to stay at the monster's head for the majority of the fight in order to fully get its worth. Sure you can use the hammer to hit legs and even tails but it really is at its most effective when you're at the monster's face, which also just happens to be a dangerous spot most of the time esp if you're not careful. Additionally, Sword & Shield is just that beginner friendly. It's mobile and versatile without any specific requirements like inflicting KO or a status ailment.
@Tetsant2 жыл бұрын
SAS is begginer friendly because it is the most similar to outter games, it doesn't require a lot of knowledge to start and you can walk yourself through the game while you pick it up, obviously once you are used to the pace, you experiment with other weapons and find your match

still using my rampage HH with my support build, but im really not sure what to replace it with that is in the same vein. im already up to MR3 and haven't really seen one to use that has the same skills.

I'd recommend forget your attk up and whatever and just build the lunagaron or malzeno HH as soon as you can, to help you climb MR. They are massive damage, and purple sharpness... cool new songs too like sharpness recovery and whatnot. You can always find one you prefer later on and max that one out at endgame.

The thought goes like this: You want a ranged or a melee weapon? If melee: You want a shielded or unshielded weapon? If Shielded: Your choices are lance, gunlance , sns and chargeblade If Unshielded: You want a bladed or bludgeoning weapon? Easier way to narrow it down. Of course you could just ask if they like explosions and then say gunlance or hgb sticky 😂

Played IG pretty much exclusively in world so decided to main LS and HH in Sunbreak. Though I still fall back on IG quite often since I have trouble using other weapons.

You missed the best weapon, in Generations that Palico was a beast, wish they added them back. Had so much fun with them.

Loved Lance in World and Iceborne and kinda wanted to extend that love to Rise, but man that game hates the weapon. You can't slot guard 5 unless you build very weak armor (or farm bazel near the end of the game), guard itself is inexplicably a two-slot gem (like pretty much any other good skill in the game) and even elder dragon sets only have like 1-2 of those slots on the entire armor set. Can't craft a charm with it, either, so you're insanely restricted already. Then you just get quite the knockback even with guard 5, heavy chip damage from just medium monsters (like Magna) and essentially every monster is now Anjanath or the boring trio of "rush at and around you for 90% of the hunt". With Sunbreak you at least get the shield-jump, so you can change direction MUCH more easily than before and it also functions as the combo reset, which makes it feel much more fluid than the old "pokex3 backhop/counter" style. Vine is decent for some monsters, although even after the buff it's kinda iffy to land and leaves you open a long time. Having the retreat option there is actually quite nice vs some of the cheaper monsters like Basarios, who you literally cannot escape, unless you use specific skills like Quick Sheathe or Guard Up (all 2 slots; figures...). Now you can just swap to the other skill set, swing out, swap back/sharpen/heal etc. I'm not quite sold on the shield charge; I hear a lot of people loving it, but it feels very wonky to actually aim with it, it's a measured distance, rather than an ongoing charge and I don't think I've hit a ko with it, despite trying for like 3 headhits in a rath hunt once. I still wish they'd let you chain a cross-slash into another counter right away, but for now the weapon's quite alright in sunbreak. Armor sets finally have some more slots and more skills and the armor values are closer together for now, so I don't feel like I'm using barroth/diablos armor to fight Teo, like in base Rise. I'll see how the endgame sets look like and if I finally have enough slots for all the good things or maybe I'll get a lucky gacha pull on a charm (or they finally decide to add guard as a skill to pull), so I can use something other than just "wex with a 2slot" on literally all my sets.

I’ve been playing Charge Blade since 4U (after trying insect glaive) and never knew it was super technical compared to the others until now! Been really enjoying insect glaive in Rise too with all the different kinsect types!

Thank God they brought back Crouching Fire for HBG. It was my off-Main in the classic games and I just couldn't get into it in World.
