You cover everything someone would need to know a very organized order, starting with "things you need to know the second you equip this for the first time" then advance towards "things you want to think about once you are more confident" then end with "this is what mastery looks like". seing as this is a tutorial and many people might watch this. Do NOT wake up monsters with wyvernfire as arrekz did here. Wyvern Fire has 2 hits, one is the capsule bursting and the second is the actual, quite strong, wyvernfire hit. move backwards until you the the "out of range" indicator. because this tells you that the capsule will not hit the monster. The wyvernfire will then get the sleeping damage bonus (x2) instead of the weak capsule. Ofc, even an average GS powercharge (or if skilled a second hit of the true charge) outdamages this but in most hunts you will be the one with the best damage option if you do it correctly.

With that trick in mind how would you rank hbg in the hierarchy of wake ups. I normally wake up as a hammer main unless there's a gs. I am interested to see if my hbg friend might have a better wake up. The hierarchy I've followed so far is gs, hammer, cb with saed, switch axe, cb without saed, hbg wyvern fire, gunlance, and after that it's basically just let the bombs do the work, assuming strongest attacks. With the trick where would you place hbg, also please help correct my list if you know a better/more accepted order.

As a HBG user I'd like to note that you sort of speak of Piercing as a secondary option behind Normal and Spread however Piercing builds are right up there with them as a constant DPS option - the Legiana Heavy Bow Gun has great reload, capacity, damage, and recoil for all 3 Pierce shots and puts out impressive numbers along with having a good selection of support ammo types. It also lets you adopt a longer range style than the other types I'd also argue that it can be even more user friendly than Normal ammo because it just needs you to shoot center of mass through the longest part of the monster (head to tail or wing to wing or body to wing) whereas Normal shots have to hit specific weak parts that may or may not be facing you depending on positioning (and the weapon isn't so quick, to get around to a weakspot either). With Piercing you can just keep shooting and not worry about it because you've got the ammo capacity to spare with fast reloads

I also interested in a pierce shot build because i didn't have spread shot jewel yet. What is your suggestion for the armor to maximize it?

Aivre Escend my build will have attack boost 4, critical boost 3, weakness exploit 3, peak performance 3, evade extender 2, piercing shots, and ballistics (still waiting for the deco on this one). Absolutely destroys monsters like the diablos who have long stretching weak points. I can have around 25 damage per a tick...and hit multiple times with pierce 3. I primarily use this ammo type because it hits multiple times and can combine a TON more than pierce 1 can. You'll want a vitality mantle (protect your peak performance) and an affinity booster (get to 100% affinity). For smaller monsters, I use the lbg karma or deviljho (normal 2 and slicing respectively)

A few tips: -If you want to practice Wyvernshot use the Ghillie Mantle to get a really easy time lining up your shot. -The Legiana HBG (Shattercyst) can allow for an excellent Pierce Ammo-based playstyle as it has no deviation and can load a ton of pierce ammo (I run 2 shield mods and 1 long range) -Shield doesn't work when reloading and you cannot roll while reloading. Be very careful about when you reload and make sure you reload all ammo between encounters.

Regarding deviation suppressor, it has a massive effect on Wyvernheart. If you plan on using a metal bowgun, then deviation of low or none is usually what I find the most manageable, otherwise the reticle will jump straight up within a few seconds and make it really difficult to make use of the sustained dakka. Less useful on bone bowguns IMO, since usually you're not firing fast enough for the reticle jump to effect your aim too badly.

Normal, Spread, and Pierce Up all give a boost equivalent to Attack 7 and they also stack. Special Ammo Up actually does more damage than Attack 7, but of course also stacks. However Artillery does not boost Cluster Ammo. Quick Sheath helps a lot, it's around 1.75sec to sheath without QS and around 1sec with level 3. Personal favorites are Nergy and Teostra. Nergy for shotgun builds and Teo for pierce and sticky.

Definitely should add that the melee attack does quite respectable damage this game. It guarantees kelbi horns and it's actually better for hunting mobs of smaller monsters since you can easily knock them out and beat them while they're down. It's nice for triggering flash and nectar bugs and its ability to KO is better than I first thought.
@kouriichi6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, as a guy who now mains the HBG in world, always use a shield. The HBG's roll is so bad, and should really be used for repositioning rather than dodging. Having a shield also allows you to fire more aggressively since blocking tends to be safer than dodging in nearly all situations once you hit the late stages of the game, especially Tempered Elders. A single bad roll can easily get you killed or forced out of the fight to heal/nulberry, where as blocking only causes some light chip damage. Even the most powerful attacks in the game are rendered jokes if you run Guard Up on your HBG. The downsides are very limited, and safety is far more important for your DPS than *slightly* more damage. Given that monsters in World have some of the largest, and longest lingering hitboxes in their attacks, just block. Its safer, and can prevent carting in high level missions by preventing things like Paralysis, Stun, or just getting knocked into a corner and having a Rathian charge you 3 times in a row.
@VGJunky6 жыл бұрын

A very important information on unsheathing the bowgun. Pressing triangle forces an auto reload after unsheathing if the selected ammo isn't full, pressing R2 will not. This is crucial because against some fights you just want to unsheath to block with the shield, doing it with triangle will kill you instead.

Wyvernsnipe recharges decently fast; often enough that you may not always have an opening ready when it's ready to be used. My advice? Create that opening by working smoke bombs into your item build. Pop smoke, load the round, and pop off an easy snipe in the middle of the fight. Works great if you've run out of sleep or paralysis ammo, or if the monster has gotten too resistant. It also pretty much guarantees your safety while loading the ammo while playing in a team or solo. You can even use the smoke to reload all your ammo in the middle of the fight too.

As a note, after playing with wyvern snipe a fair bit, it seems that on longer monsters like diablos, vaal hazak, and xeno'jiva, if you get a lot of initial hits with the first shot, there are very few secondary explosions, meaning you actually want to avoid max length pierces to capitalize on the secondary explosion's higher damage.

Just picked up the LBG today and loving it! Can't wait to try HBG - the only time I've used it is that double Diablos Arena Quest, and it was hectic as anything but I managed to pull through... just!

The music when you go to a different point sounds like I’m elementary. Awesome! Nice guide, I’ve been meaning to get into a different weapon.

The intro to this video perfectly summed up why I main this weapon.

Quick Sheath might be another good skill for a new player who chose this weapon, considering the time it takes sheath it due to its size and mobility, a quick sheath skill might save you a cart and give you a chance to heal up.

from learning how to use heavy bowgun from this video to a year later getting a fatalis in 3 minutes speedrun with hbg heroics, thanks for the base to become a speedrunner :)

Iv always wanted to use bow gun but the problem I always thought to be a problem is having to farm ammo every hunt

Yeah, that's why I'm not using it.

Gio Ded what I meant if for new players as while it ok if you don’t miss but eventually you’ll run out and have to farm (once you get to high rank you can buy them all though)

Gio Ded I think it would make for a better concept introducing ammo as you upgrade

If I'm understanding it right, critical distance is essentially damage falloff. They way you described it made it seem way more complex than it actually is. I was thinking if you were too close you would also lose damage. I guess its the name "critical distance" which makes it seem like its a specific distance you want to maintain rather than just "don't be too far away".

HBG: First 20 mins, why did I do this? I want to go back to melee. HBG: First 10 hours, why didn't I do this sooner? I never want to go back.

I appreciate that you added a segment on guarding. I made an hbg with a shield but I didn't really get how it worked. Thanks for the hard work, Arekkz! Question though, how small of a window is the guard? Are we talking somewhere near charge blade size or sword and shield?
@Antonim546 жыл бұрын
The size of the shield isn't really important; as long as you're facing the monster and not moving, the shield will be active. The strength of the shield, however, is another matter entirely.
@oceangun6 жыл бұрын
ohh, so you're not suppose to move? Didn't know that. :0
@SeraviSays6 жыл бұрын
OG Man you can move. The shield is always active while your weapon is drawn and you are not doing any other action (reloading, shooting, rolling, etc). Guard reduces chip damage and stamina loss, extra Shield mods reduce the knockback from certain attacks (not necessarily the damage), and Guard Up from either Urugaan set bonus or the decoration that gives it will allow you to block most laser/ultimate attacks that Elders use in addition to “grabs” such as Deviljho’s. I personally advocate 1 Shield mod, Guard 5 (lv3 charm and Bazel body), and Guard up only if you really want it for those specific monsters.

Edalborez ah, my bad. Must have assumed based off experiences with other shields.

Been playing about with HBG and Shield and honestly, it's weirdly satisfying. I've gone for the set bonus of the Uragaan armour and maxed up defense and what not and honestly, it's a very bizarre badass feeling. I'm used to leaping like crazy to get out of the way and still getting caught but it was kinda cool just standing there, switching ammo on the fly, having giant monsters charge into me and not even moving an inch. Getting them to hit your shield takes a bit of trial and error to figure out where the attacks land but when you do get, you never get hit.

Hey! I love your tutorial videos as they've given me the chance to make well-informed decisions about what weapons I want to use and how to use them so thanks a million for that. There's one thing I'd like to ask though since I'm lazy and also forgetful. Would you mind putting your favorite weapons, mods, skills, charms, and armor sets you use in the descriptions below your videos? I could just skim through the video, but I'd like to have a definitive answer either written or displayed in the video. I assume the practical showcase section at the end is your favorite, but I'd like to know what armor you're using with what skills so I can make an optimal build as I'm new to MH (this is my first one, love it a lot!). Thanks for the videos and the work you put into them ^_^

Quick hbg tip holing triangle on an empty or semi empty clip will proceed to load all your ammo in order

He didn’t mention that the guard doesn’t take effect during recoil/firing or reloading
@AdonanS5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I noticed that too. The shield is still useful, but you have to pay attention to the monster more closely.

I also like to use quick sheath skills with heavy bowguns, because I'm pretty sure they have the slowest sheathing animation of any weapon in the game.
