It seems you don't NEED to have done the quest chains for the Ancient Fish and Phantom Bird to appear. I must have just been super unlucky because I could never get them to spawn pre-completion. That being said, it's worth taking the time to complete the two quest lines since each of them award you a Gold Wyverian Print if you return to speak to the researchers after catching the rare creatures :)

Past the moss wine is a cave don't kill the moss wine and go to the end of the cave and go to the honey then turn around and he might be stuck in the wall and you can shoot the net at him, that's how I found him

The fish has been pretty common, for me, but the bristly crake I've only seen once. Good to know that they spawn in the recess, as well.

I literally saw a group of downy crake, and being the fool I am, I ran in guns blazing, only to realise that I had neglected to put on my ghillie.. Have never seen them since. Lesson learned.

Ive seen them 4 times on OTHER quests and i never have my mantle on.....then when i go JUST to do that quest and capture them.....never find em. Staring to piss me off Well that and all the elder dragon fights.

I literally stopped playing the game, because I couldn't get them to show up and felt severely miffed after days of trying. Recently got them and since then I've seen them three times. Once on my low-level second character and twice during the Greatest Jagras quest. The second time I literally only saw them, once I ran up to them completely and they didn't leave, even when Jagras was eating shit literally one meter from them. Stupid cuddly birds.

You do NOT need to have the quests to get the last two to show up. I got the birds long before I got the quest. You can also get the beetle from Ancient Forest. The beetle is also a 100% spawn chance when it is dusk or dawn.

The Prism Hercudrome was the second Trophy I got in this game. When I did the first quest to hunt the 7 Jagras I immediately found him.

You can't even consider it rare. All you have to do is catch it at it's spawns at the right time. It will spawn every time

Now with Iceborne being done with updates and all the event quests are out, the event quest Skyward Snipers (capture grandfather mantagrells) actually has a guaranteed Downy Crake spawn (they can also spawn on the backs of the mantagrells) There’s a video about it, so look it up if you want to learn how to find them

Even I who has uploaded like 3 days ago on german on the complete list of every endemic creature you can capture, was worried nobody was interested anymore. The Prisim Hercudrone can be found in the Ancient Forrest at the end of long peninsula on the big tree by the first camp. It can only be found at dawn or dusk according to the description. A regular Hercudrone can be found on the archway door to the cats home as well.

I was on coral highlands and launched the capture net randomly and dot the downy cake and that is how I learn about the hidden trophies.

Thanks for the guide, I did all 4 of these creatures today. Got 3 of them pretty easy, but the darn Downy Crake was the one giving me trouble. It actually did appear much earlier (WW a1), but I'd switched to a Gathering Item set and this meant my Ghillie Mantle was no longer bound to the radial menu. Not only did I miss and scare away the rare pink rabbit, but I didn't have my mantle equipped for the birds. I finally got it in Ancient forest on the furthest group of Aptonoth. Worth those gold tickets.

I caught the fish without the quest, also of note, the pool you caught it in, there is a ledge to the left with a moss swine that can have a bristley crake on its back, so you can powerfarm that one spot for 2 rare spawns. also, in the ancient forest, if you go into the peninsula just ahead of where you caught the phantom bird (where there are 2 flower beds) the rainbow beetle can spawn on the tree right by the second flower bed, so you can farm all 4 rarespawns in just 2 locations.

Big tip for the downy's Don't bring your palico...i saw that on wiki and every time i looked for them they would never spawn right up until i left my pali behind i went to the wildespires, ran down to where the apceros spawn, grabbed herbs and right as i looked down at the apceros i instantly saw the downy's and boy i went from feeling somewhat depressed, tired and feeling like shit to instantly wanting to jump out of a window from excitement...i didn't tho I only caught one unfortunately but hey i know they exist now!!! :D

I believe the palico gets camouflaged with the mantle, too. I still got the crakes with my palico. The Guiding Lands' molies saw them, though. Weird.

The fish 99% didn't spawn for me. I checked both of the ponds I've seen videos of him spawning in, and even ran around for awhile to make sure it wasn't time sensitive. Dunno if I just got unlucky or I missed him, but it took about 2 1/2 hours of going back an forth between Rotten Vale and Elder's Recess (TED track farming) to get him.

The endemic researcher (if you keep talking to her when you get the Phantom Bird quest) gives you hints about when they can spawn. She actually says that they only show up during sunrise or sunset. Which makes me wonder how you found them during the middle of the day, unless you were there when it was transitioning between dawn and day and that is why they jumped off the back of the monster as you were approaching them.

You don't need to complete the quest lines for the Petricanth and Downy Crake, but I'd recommend you do, since they don't count for completion of the quest if you get them beforehand, meaning you'll have to find them all over again. You could also have at least shown where the Mosswines spawn in the Rotten Vale too. There's one in area 15, walking along a narrow pathway and one that travels between area 3 and 5, through a crawl hole to the immediate left when entering area 3 from the southeast camp. The Prism Hercudrome can also be found in Ancient Forest at dusk/dawn by hugging the right when entering area 1 from the southest camp, in an area with a lot of flower beds.

I remember when I got the bristly crake I was walking in the rotten vale, researching monsters not prepared with a ghillie mantle and then I look to the side and there's a frickin bristly crake! I go to an Immediate panic and headed to get my ghillie mantle. Then DANG deviljho starts running around the place but thankfully didn't scare it. That was epic.

There's a Gold Hecudrome in the Wildspire Wastes as well. It shows up at night in area....5 i think. Prism Hecudrome can be caught in the Ancient forest outside of camp 1 in the southeast on a big tree root also. The Augur fly can be found in the wild spire waste near where you found the Prism Hercudrome as well. I think it shows up when it's foggy/sandstormy ("Bad Weather")

You don't need the gillie mantle for the wigglers. If you crouch walk to them they aren't afraid of you. Something you can read about in the Hunter's Notes on endemic life forms.

As for the Prism Hercudrome bug one, the mantle is completely optional, yes it only appears at dawn/dusk, and it can be found in the Ancient Forest too. I believe anywhere there is a tree surface it might appear

The Downy Crake spawns in the Wildspire Waste as well. I caught mine there early morning/afternoon around the clearing area after the Scatternuts. I've seen them twice there =)

The petricanth can easily be caught using a net in area 8 base camp. Just go to the left fishing spot and continue to spam the net. The fish will keep coming back if you wait 5 seconds. I caught 1 every time while trying to spam the night cycle for the palico gadget.

I've said it before, i'll say it again: i hope they add an ice map with new rare creatures and stuff. I will say you can find gunpowder fish in the Coral Highlands in the lower right section of the map, in a shallow pond-like area thats got large walls on 2 sides and 2 vine walls on 2 sides for the path (kinda like that one place with the overhanging tree in the wastes, but with water).

A few things to note. The 2 final quest are not locked to each other, I had the fishing quests done while I was only a done with a few of the Endemic Researcher quests. The Downy Crake and Petricanths(I assume) can be caught before you have the quest for them, I managed to get the Crake my second or third time in the Waste. As mentioned by others the Rainbow Hercudrome can show up in other areas, I find him very often out on the jut in the Ancient Forest in area 1.

For the downy crake, I did the gaijinhunter method of turning the camera away from the aptonoth, and then back again on the aptonoth. And again and again until they spawned! You'll hear some chirping when the camera is not pointed at them when they spawn.

Also the reason it felt like it took you so many reloads is that reloading the map does not mean you reset the endymic spawns. I was noticing as I did that method that the exact same spawns and locations of palicos and NPCs was not changing which made me realize resetting is not the best method. The best method I could find speed wise was to yes hit all the spawn areas, but after doing so run a quick hunt. From the look of it the map refreshes in these areas occur at the same rate as your farm fertilizer ticks down. So either do long expeditions or do a quick hunt in between checking. You can also just do investigations in those areas and check the spawns you, may get lucky.

So, just now found this out by luck. In the Coral Highlands, you can use stones to shoot down those big flying beetle things, Grandfather Mantagrells, and then capture them with the net. Turns out the Downy Crakes can also be found riding these. I shot one down and captured it only for a bunch of chickens to fall and be dazed long enough for me to capture three without a ghillie mantle on. Was also at dawn. Just a heads up!

You can also find the prism hercudrom in the ancient forest from the 1st camp down to the first area there’s a overlook in the right side on a tree in the back next to a flowerbed gathering spot spawns every time is either dusk or dawn in my experience

Months late, but I can confirm the ancient fish does spawn in the 2nd base camo in elders reces, but I didn't reload the map just moved from area to area with the same map. Also the 2nd base fishing spot is great as it spawns almost all types of fish, but you need to look at every corner of the pond or you will miss them.

You actually don't need to finish the questlines to get the creatures. You can also still find them before, but of course you will then have to search for them again in order to fulfill the quests.

For those who don’t know you don’t need to leave the zone and come back for the ancient fish, if you just fast travel back to the central camp and then come back to where you find it will have a chance to spawn, that’s how I managed to get mine.

Was on an exploration quest with a friend on the same man and he was explaining to me about the rare downy crane and explaining to me in detail what they look like. A few seconds later i passed through a group and theh all ran away cause I didn't know what to so and didn't have my ghilli suit on. He was screaming at me to catch it on the mic.

I have found the Prism Hercudrone from the Ancient Forest, in the loop above the shoreline (I think it's area 3). This may be a pc addition, I don't know. It has also been confirmed that they only spawn at dawn and dusk.

I never actually did all of the quests for the piscine researcher, but I did catch all of the prerequisite fish on my on, and he spawned. I can't say for certain that catching all of the fish is the reason he spawned, but I've gotten 3 or 4 from the pond at camp 8.

Prism Hercudrome can be found at elders recess, resting on one of the crystals at dusk in the part of the map where Bazel sleeps I think, I found 2 there. They also don't scare at all from what I've seen.

Its actually turning into night already when you caught your dowry crake as you can see the lamp in the camp is already lit. Ive caught the petricant twice using the same tactic. Wait until its almost dawn (in any map as the time is continuisly running on any expidition and astera) and go to rotten vale and the fish will be there same with the rare birds.

For the prism hercudrome you don't need a ghillie as i found mine in the elders recess without a ghillie on and hercudromes i don't think ever move only turn To find the prism hercu in the elders go to camp 8 and go to your right (or left and hook to the wedge beelte and jump onto the vines) and then go straight to where the giant glowing crystal is (the biggest crystal) and next to some latchberry's are some crystal formations and if you look further back on a flat part of the crystals you'll see a prism hercu

I actually did not know that bristly crakes spawn on Gastodons, that is good information. I already got the Prism Hercudrome and Downy Crake. The Prism Hercudrome is actually not that rare, as they seem to never fail to spawn in their set locations and the right time of day. I got lucky with the Downy Crakes, as when they ran from me in the Waste I found them stuck in the geometry of some vines later lol. I have yet to get the final quests for either of the researchers, but supposedly the creatures spawn 100% of the time if you look for them in the same expedition you received the quest.

PS: The bug is always there during dawn/dusk. So when you see its dawn or dusk, just jump to his spawn locations back to back for a free 500 research points each time.

Me and a friend of mine would even point out how cute they are, and then we realized we could capture animals and keep them as pets.
