I really liked drawing Shadow and spent a lot of time studying cats and their movements. The shadows and highlights on her coat did takes ages to do, but I felt it was worth the time for the look.

Very beautiful animation! I'm glad I came across you, immediately subscribed and liked you. A little historical background, for those who are interested: Caesar didn't give a thumbs up if he wanted to keep someone alive. These are films and books that have been imposed on us, that we should keep the thumbs up alive and kill them down. In fact, a raised thumb in any position meant to kill. And to keep him alive, he either showed a handkerchief or a fist. Fist means to sheathe the dagger, like a thumb in a fist.

Have you ever considered perhaps taking a interest in ralph bakshi's stuff? like lord of the rings or rotoscoping? I think it would be quite an interesting thing to put into this tho im nothing of a expert on how to do animation n shit but this looks really damn promising if you ask me.

Because of how romanticised it is, people definitely often forget how cruel and brutal the Romans were, both to other people they deemed as 'barbaric', slaves and their own citizens, but also to the countless animals they used in blood sport. If they werent given a slow, stressful and horrifying death, they wouldve assumedly been locked in a tiny cage and used in such 'sports' as bating or simply harassed and made 'vicious' (constantly terrified) to fight as hard as possible.

I'm still confused by the 👍. Because it actually means to execute, not to pass. That's where the term getting the thumbs up comes from. So when he raised his thumb, he would actually have been putting her to death. 👍 was the equivalent of the middle finger, just like the 👉 was the equivalent of the middle finger to natives, meaning to get lost, or be outcasted. Even the ✌ is ruted in the art of insults, as it was meant to show they bested someone with their archery fingers still in tact (as an insult), and it was never used as a symbol of peace until a general, during the end of WW2, showed his fingers to the Germans to signify to them that they've been bested. And it made everyone happy, so people began to copy him to make fun of the Nazis. That's why most negative signals are seen and used as positive today

As far as I know no one is sure what the exact hand gesture was for life or death in the roman arena was, as none of the sources describe it in enough detail. Modern society at large generally understands the 'thumbs up for life and down for death' concept (as depicted in movies), and as there is no clear evidence to the contrary, this is what I used in my animation.

People today still slide their thumbs across their neck as a threat specifically because of it, as well as staying it under the chin. It's also why it represents power, authority, and responsibility. A thumbs up did infact mean to kill. And in a lot of countries, it still does.
