I bought the 3/8 and 1/4 sae and metric ares sets 3/8 is a half of inch shorter than my snap on 3/8 impact sockets the 1/4 it is just a little bit longer than my quarter-inch snap on impact set the 1/4 and 3/8 ares are both 1.96 in long for some reason

I think they are very nice sockets, I just question the validity of calling them mid-length.
@davidchadbourne24086 жыл бұрын
Not to be that guy but they do specify the length of the socket in the description. Think it is actually on the pictures too. Thanks though, I will likely get a set as I wanted deep sockets and your words on the quality were helpful

Get the gearwrench mid length sockets. I have them and they are excellent!
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
I'll either go with those or the Carlyle.
@RadDadBMX6 жыл бұрын
Both made in Taiwan. Dave money and go Gearwrench. Follow my Instagram and you will see I’m a Gearwrench guy for life.

I may wait until the Carlyle go on sale and buy them. $50 for each of the GearWrench sets are still a bit steep for me.

the gear wrenches are great 2nd that, my IG is the same as this i belive follow me and ill follow back. Ive probably spent over $600 on gearwrench lately. and yes their deep sockets must be a extra deep socket if they have one.
@robinsonsauto6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up! I'm sure others will appreciate this prior to buying 👍
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
Ya, it does list the links in the Amazon listing but I just took them at their word that they were actually mid length. The more you know...
@Toyotas_n__Tools6 жыл бұрын
ARES has a lot of cool stuff out right now, new organizers for socket accessory's and even some new 90tooth ratchets. The set is priced around $50 but you can buy them individually for $13, $16 and about $22. They remind me of the titan brand ratchets that catus maximus did a video on with the aluminum handles.
@Zib1876 жыл бұрын
The specs state that the sockets are 1.96" in length. Is that the length of the ones that were sent to you? What's the length of the Carlyle mid length sockets?
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
All the measurements are in the video.
@Zib1876 жыл бұрын
My CRS must be acting up because I don't remember seeing that part.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. Stanley deep and Ares mid =1.96. GearWrench deep = 1.94. Carlyle mid 3/8 = 1.80.
@Fedwrench6 жыл бұрын
Maybe Ares' deep sockets are like 4 inches long. in 3/8 drive 1.96 wouldn't be too bad but, Mid length sockets should come in at 1.5 to 1.75 inches long. Look at the gearwrench mid length sockets, often they have a buy one get one special from many vendors.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
I don't know how they can call these mid length. In the Amazon review section there was some disagreement. Hopefully this will settle it.
@Fedwrench6 жыл бұрын
There's no way that 1.96 inches in length equals a mid length socket in 1/4 drive. The term mid length must have gotten lost in translation...

That's kind of a bummer but as you say, an easy fix with the return. Good information to know for the rest of us, thanks.

No prob, Wyatt. They state the specs in the Amazon listing, but I took their word that the sockets were mid. I will be more aware next time...

I tried getting the gear wrench set from your last video but where I am at there's no advance Auto 😣

Sir, could it possibly be that "Mid" length is relative to the rest of the meat hanging in the smokehouse?

Thought those guys were lookin bit long in hand, not shabby price however, been bit curious about those aries, thankyou for showing

No problem. They do State the specs in the Amazon listing, but I ignored that and just trusted that they were actually mid length sockets.
@johngibson35946 жыл бұрын
I think those are labeled incorrectly. Great vid thanks for sharing
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
They just can't be calling those sockets mid length...
@silvastreakracing45946 жыл бұрын
MD... If they are calling those mid-lengths, I wonder (if they offer) how long their deeps are.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
I don't think they offer anything else...

Great video maybe the company is talking about the inside broaching is mid length on the socket. Nice Knurling & holder on the socket.

I don't think that's it.

(Said in my best “monster jam” commercial voice) Introducing the new ARES 6 inch deep well sockets! Throw away those other flaccid posers cause a real deep well is here. It’s long, it’s hard, and it’s sure to go as deep as you want it to!
@martinschaffmeir77296 жыл бұрын
Hello sir great post. 30.bucks is a great price to bad they aren't what they claim. I priced a Snap-on set of deep metric 1/4 inch 272. You believe that and that was a special price. For special people I guess. Not for me

Them are far from being semi deep, I have the Stanley sae and metric the Gearwench deeps and the Pittsburgh deep all 1/4 Dr all the same size as you showed.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm wondering if something got lost in translation...
@BruceLyeg6 жыл бұрын
Well that sucks. I've got a few old deep sockets by various brands that are mid length depth but just considered deep sockets. I think when I finally pull the trigger on a mid deep set I'll go with GW. Thanks for the video, too bad it didn't work out as you expected.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking of going with either GearWrench or Carlyle, depending on what the prices are.
@tootoosick186 жыл бұрын
Carlyle mid length doesn't look too mid length ether smaller but not much shorter then a deep.
@mdlee526 жыл бұрын
I'll probably end up going with GearWrench or Carlyle for the 1/4 semi deep. It'll be interesting to find out the lengths.
