When Aretha franklin began making the airwaves I was a little white boy, growing up in Memphis, Tennessee and swearing I would one day marry this passionate enchantress on the radio. I'm 65 now, and the woman and her voice still astound me.

She always had her sisters and the backup singers singing like tidal waves, and she would surf on top of these waves like a dolphin. She was having fun with it, and the audience left with a fantastic experience.

It has nothing to do with my profile name, but if it does, I'm glad. Because dolphins are one of the most beautiful wonders in the world, so was her voice... now myself, if I can achieve half of the wonderfulness as either one of them, I'll be "cool". ❣ @@mommakat7361

It's never too late 🙂 Aretha is The Queen of Soul but she is far from alone in that castle. If you're just now discovering her, you're going to enjoy so many others! Start with any that you can find singing to music played by The Funk Brothers, e.g. Kim Weston, Gladys Knight, Tammi Terrell... I could go on and on.

_egas calybird the Bible was a book written by a council of men who also dictated the laws of Europe in the Middle Ages. Thank God for science because without them, the Catholic Church would probably ban technology like the internet and you couldn’t watch KZbin today. The reason for all of these technology and diversity in society is because the church is dying. A long time ago, churches didn’t want their parishioners to interact with people of different race, nationality or religion.

when Jesus died, he gave us the power to be saved and to never die. so no, you won't die and wait for judgment. reference the verse where Jesus told the sinner on the cross that he would be in paradise that night.

@_egas calybird many things were taken out of the Bible under Constantines rule many years ago. Though the scripture is inspired, it has been tampered with. Loom up the Nag Hammadi scriptures on Google and the Reluctant Messenger. Jesus is talking about immortality and reincarnation being the truth. The Bible is not to be understood literally anyway. It is to be understood metaphtsically. Do you really think Jonah was in the belly of a whale and lived to tell about it? Look up the 2 references I gave you and do not take my word for it.

R.I.P. Aretha! I grew up to your voice being a 70s baby. My mother played Aretha's music as far back as I can remember, both her gospel & pop. One song stands out for me as a child I truly loved bcuz my mom played it allllllll the time. That song was called Angel, written by her sister Carolyn. That song is easily one of my favorites, especially later in life. I lost my oldest sister in 1984 & I always think of her & my mother whenever I hear it. I loved her music, she had a special gift that I will truly miss. Ms. Franklin also looks *A LOT* like my mother as well, so it feels almost like I lost my own mother! You will be greatly missed! Those amazing back vocals, are absolutely amazing. The dynamic between Aretha Franklin and them is way underrated. It's as if the backup singers have her energy and intentions.

@shibby22 Worth mentioning is that *in the chorus* -- both in this performance, but strikingly in the original recording -- it is Aretha who is singing backing vocals. In my listening, the intricate chorus, the interplay of the singers and their shifting in roles, is the most brilliant part of Aretha's version of I Say a Little Prayer. I am spellbound by the genius of it every single time I listen!
