Went from singing about “man” to getting touched by the Holy Spirit. Only Aretha can...her soul was never about soul music but the glory that resided in her soul.

People define her just as Gospel but they forget how BLUESY the Queen was. That combination of Gospel enthusiasm and Blues GRIT created the Queen’s style. This performance was steeped in the blues.

If I could sing like her for just 1 hour, I would be strutting down the sidewalks of Manchester and just belting out this classic Aretha tune to everyone. Really not caring if people wanted to hear me or not. They’d probably put me away for a year but it would be so worth it.

Though I am familiar with R&B, Soul and Gospel for about 50 years, and also know the name of Aretha, I missed this powerful song somehow. This is the first time I hear it! I am very impressed, now I understand that she deserves the title of Queen of Soul. RIP.
