@@andysilva2615 I've seen Aretha live twice and because I'm much younger, I didn't get to see her in her prime. Both times I saw her, it was difficult to hear her voice over the band...I believe she was trying to conceal her voice a little (she didn't have the upper range as in her recordings). At one event (Pasadena , CA.), the audience stood up and started chanting "WE CAN'T HEAR YOU! WE CAN'T HEAR YOU!" She threw a fake tantrum at the sound man and told him to fix the sound! It got a little better but not by much. There should NEVER be an occasion where you can't hear the star or lead vocalist!!!! At least with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, when they were not at their vocal best....you could hear them CLEARLY!!!

She had lost her crystal clear upper mezzo soprano voice range. Her contemporaries Gladys and Patti, who've been in the business and touring just as long as her...still have most of their brilliant instrument (voice) in tack. I loved Aretha, so I still enjoyed the show!!!

Nothing tops the wig. When she snatched that wig off that was a throwdown for the ages. Jennifer tried with the shoe but she couldn't upstage the Queen. Aretha was a polished Ghetto Queen. The wig incident came out of the Black church...when a sister got filled with the spirit some would snatch their hats off. Strictly old school. Aretha was the last of the Black Divas which started with Ma Rainy, Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Dinah Washington, and Pearl Bailey. Bottom line Aretha made many fans "So Damn Happy".

Her top was down here, all singers have off nights, but don't think that this was a reflection of all of her live singing at this time. When she played the Kodak Theatre in LA a few months after this, she raised the roof and brought much of the audience to tears with a soaring full-top voice and belts that many thought she was no longer capable of, her rendition of Celine Dions 'Have You Ever Been In Love' at this 2005 performance was almost too much for some, Clive Davis wept and Arethas high belts were almost possessed. There are many great examples of Aretha in full unmatched belting voice from 2005 right up until 2016. I saw her in New York City in 2011 and her Bridge Over Troubled Water and One Night With The King were vocal masterpieces.
