I apologize, I want to say it like CLEOPATRA Jones says it. "she sits there FLAT,umless it's a man". my interpretation may be off,and if so I apologize to you Ms. Jones. But I still get the same interpretation that I commented on. And I do truly hope I am wrong Ms. Jones. God bless you.

THIS is when I loved her voice the MOST. She has HEFT AND HEART. She just seems like she has no soul though. She seems like a blank canvas. She seems like a battered woman. She had a shield up like no other.

Loveee the HEFT In her voice here, just wish she would have BROUGHT it home like Patti would have. I like her voice here better than Pattis but even singing gospel, she STILL tries to be in CONTROL and NOT let loose. She shows NO EMOTION here during this song. I am NOT a Patti fan but I DO like that Patti, Beyonce and Fantasia KNOCKS YOUR SOCKS OFF when they hit the stage. i just wish Aretha had done that. She still looks too stubborn to even let the HOLY GHOST get a hold to her singing that song. She just always seems unhappy, even when someone is paying homage to her in a tribute, she STILL just sits there FLAT, umlesss its a MAN.
@prof328 жыл бұрын
I think you mistake "theatrics" for emotion. Aretha is not that type of singer who's going to get up and start dancing. That's not who she is. Never really has been. The difference between the ones you mentioned and Aretha is that Aretha is a musician. She plays piano and she doesn't need always to whoop and holler to express an emotion. Doesn't mean she hasn't in the past but you have to understand that this was the period where her voice was lower from all the smoking she had done. That, and perhaps she was still reeling from her father's death? Singing high and singing loud doesn't necessarily equate to singing with soul. Gladys would be another one like Aretha. They are chill. Same with Chaka, although Chaka does have the range and power. You may see Aretha every now and then give more energy but as a rule of thumb, she's never going to perform like those others. If her voice alone don't move ya, then it may be a disappointment for many.
@subwoofxl518 жыл бұрын
Prof 32 I agree. The Holy Spirit manifests in many ways - including utter silence and stillness. Just because people dance and whoop and holler doesn't mean it's motivated by Spirit. Sometimes the motivation is ego (Edging God Out). This clip is from the recording of her "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism" circa 1987, 1988. Unlike the "Amazing Grace" album where her focus was just on the music and singing with production done by Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin, she produced "One Lord..." by herself. Maybe being the artist and all the responsibilities of production i.e., rehearsing, sound levels, acoustics of the church, lighting, staging for the choir, PR and media coverage, photography for the event and album cover, managing the contributions of the other artists, timing, reviewing playback after the sessions and directing the creative/spiritual flow of the performances resulted in not being sufficiently focused and rested in order to just sing. Cleopatra Jones, things are not always what they appear to be. There's often more than meets the eye. The Holy Spirit can be present and active without being seen by anyone. It doesn't have to show up and meet our expectations. What's important is being aware of the spirit we express when we talk to and about one another - whether face to face or online.
